Several residents of Akar Heights, a residential complex behind BITS-Pilani has raised objections on flats being used for commercial purposes. Residents have alleged that leading hotel chain OYO has been using around 26 flats in Akar Heights for renting without valid permission. Residents also claim that a lot of people have been coming into the complex as guests of OYO and found doing unwanted things in gardens and swimming pool. Residents have also alleged that OYO officials have failed to provide valid documentation and necessary licenses from the Panchayat body to run hotel in a residential complex when they tried to confront them.
At last residents of Akar Heights on Thursday afternoon decided to drive out the guests that were coming in their residential complex and soon police arrived on the site. Residents have threatened that they would go into every flat that has been offered on rent and drive the guest away if OYO officials fail to provide necessary documents or if guests who arrive on behalf of OYO were found doing objectionable things in complex. Officials of OYO later arrived at the site and cancelled all the bookings by showing the property as sold out in the system. The officials also shifted the guests to another property and assured to produce all the necessary documentation to the residents.
Pridesh Varghese, residence of Akar Heights has stated that people come here from everywhere in the name of OYO and today they saw one girl with four boys entering a flat. Pridesh has informed that Sancoale Panchayat have denied of giving permissions or license to OYO for running a hotel in Akar Heights. Informing that Verna police has not taken any action despite many complaints, Pridesh has stated that complex has become a lovers point with boys and girls checking only for few hours. He also informed that Panchayat has issued a show cause notice to OYO and the builder.
Another resident Pavitra Pal Prabhu has expressed disappointment by stating that people don't check in like a normal hotel and rooms are being used on hourly basis. She has informed that several boys check in with one woman and loud music is also a serious issue of concern. Pravitra has warned OYO officials that they will not let anyone check in here anymore till permissions from authorities are shown to residents.
Meanwhile, Sudanshu Aggarwal of OYO has stated that he has briefed the matter to his higher ups and they will take necessary decision. He has also informed that new guests won’t be arriving at Akar Heights. Claiming that OYO will produce necessary documents to the residents, Aggarwal has informed that the guests have been shifted to another property.
