5 Mistakes Investors Make with ETFs | Fidelity

04:43
In this video, learn about the five biggest mistakes that investors make when buying ETFs, or exchange-traded funds. To learn the basics about ETFs, visit https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/investment-products/etf/overview. To get started investing with ETFs, visit https://www.fidelity.com/etfs/overview To see more videos from Fidelity Investments, subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/fidelityinvestments Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fidelityinvestments Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/fidelity Google+: https://plus.google.com/+fidelity LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/fidelity-investments --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let’s talk about the five biggest mistakes investors can make when buying exchange-traded funds. ETFs can be good tools for investors - when used appropriately. But with any investment, there are always things to watch out for. Number 1: Buying the Hot New Thing More than 100 new ETF products launch each year, many of them chasing the latest hot trend. Cloud computing, driverless cars, 3-D printing … you name it, there’s an ETF for that. Buying into the latest hot theme might make you big returns, but take care: These product launches may come after there has been a run up in the market. Buying at the top can be painful on the way down. Number 2: Buying Something You Don’t Understand The only thing worse than chasing the hottest trend is buying something you don’t understand. ETFs have taken institutional strategies and made them push-button-easy for everyday investors to access. Want access to commodity futures? There’s an ETF for that. 300% leverage? 200% short? Interest-rate carry plays? Yes to all. But just because you can buy something easily doesn’t mean you should. All of these funds may be good tools, but only if you know how to use them correctly. Number 3: Thinking All ETFs Are Created Equal Consider China. At the start of 2014, there were more than a dozen broad-based China ETFs. For example, had you chosen PGJ, the PowerShares Golden Dragon China ETF, at the start of the year, you would have lost more than 7% of your money. Had you instead chosen ASHR, the Deutsche Xtrackers Harvest CSI 300 China A-Shares ETF, you would have earned a 51% return. Both are “China ETFs.” Both can provide big, diversified portfolios. But ASHR has significant exposure to Chinese Ashares—largely consumer-focused stocks listed and traded on the domestic Chinese market— which performed spectacularly well in 2014. Don’t assume all ETFs are created equal. Just because two ETFs cover the same market doesn’t mean they provide the same exposure or returns. There’s no guarantee which fund will perform better in the future. But if you wanted to invest last year in the growth of the Chinese consumer and the domestic investor base there, a little bit of research would have gone a long way. Number 4: Trading…Just Because You Can Trading is central to ETFs. It’s right there in the name. But just because you can trade an ETF intraday doesn’t mean you should. Emotions are often an investor’s worst enemy. You zig when you should zag; you sell at the bottom and buy at the top. We all do sometimes. The trouble is ETFs make that even easier than traditional mutual funds. ETFs’ intraday liquidity can be great when you need to get into or out of the market quickly. But those situations are rare. Number 5: Only Using Market Orders When you do invest, consider using a limit order versus a market order. Market orders are instructions to buy or sell securities at the best possible price right now. That can work well for the most liquid ETFs, but as you move beyond the top dozen ETFs, you can find yourself getting trades executed at prices you don’t really want. Using a limit order means you agree to buy an ETF at a certain price or below, and sell it at a certain price or above. A limit order puts the control back in your hands and can help you set the price on your terms. Learn from these common mistakes to help avoid making them yourself. The ONLY Vanguard ETF You Need (Best Index Fund 2019) 🏆

08:20
🔴 *VIP Membership Group* 🔴 View my portfolio & every single trade I make! Join now ► https://goo.gl/SnYxc3 The Vanguard ETF VOO Index Fund is the Best ETF in 2019 - hands down. Vanguard has opened a new avenue for investors to get involved with the stock market, with relatively minimal risk through diversification but gives you the opportunity to earn 7-10% annually on your money. 🔴 *VIP Membership Group - * 🔴 View my portfolio & every single trade I make! Join now ► https://goo.gl/SnYxc3 Traditionally, if you wanted to invest in the broader market like the S&P 500, you would have to invest in a Mutual Fund. However mutual funds have a lot of negatives and issues. They are a clunky product and difficult to follow and understand, they are not easy to buy or sell, and worst of all - they charge large management fees - usually in the range of 1% to 3%. Typically for a Mutual Fund, you work with a financial adviser to pick out "the best fund for you" - but in reality, you're picking out the best fund for them as they get a commission depending on what fund you end up making an investment in. Those high management fees are fees that they get a cut out of - so they will almost always push mutual fund products onto you even if it isn't the best investment for you. What I also don't like about Mutual Funds like I mentioned, is that when you want to buy it, it usually takes a day or two to process. Same with selling it - and in this day and age - there's no reason to go down that route at all! This is where ETF's come in to save the day - specifically VOO. ETF's provide you the same exposure (or better) than a mutual fund can, but offer much less management fees - saving you hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands over your investment career. ETF's are able to be traded just like stocks - you can buy and sell them at any time that the market is open, and you instantly have exposure to the ETF. This ETF we're talking about today, VOO ETF, is one that Vanguard offers and is one that I believe is the best ETF for any investor because the management fee is 0.04%, it has enough liquidity that you can buy/sell at any time, and it's a simple product that tracks the S&P 500. If you believe the top 500 companies in the US will succeed and grow even bigger over the long term, there's no better investment on that bet than to go with VOO. Now, VTI has also come as a close runner up to this - which is another ETF offered by Vanguard. VTI encompasses the total market, and gives you exposure to something like 2000 stocks - including small caps, medium caps, and large cap stocks. If you feel that the exposure to the S&P 500 isn't enough, and you want exposure to all companies in the US that are publicly traded, the Vanguard VTI ETF is the way to go - as this also only offers a management fee of 0.04% - absolutely amazing. I hope this clears things up on why ETF's are a better investment tool than Mutual Funds, and I hope this video helps save you even $1 - because that is my goal here - to save you money! I also have a very interesting story to share of a recent visit that I had with my local bank and financial adviser. (VUG) VANGUARD GROWTH FUND - This is the single largest holding in my own personal portfoli - Give you exposure to 313 US large cap growth companies that are relatively stable - 1 year ROI = 24.27% vs. 17.93% SP 500 - 5 year ROI = 101.57% vs. 89.06% SP 500 - Top 10 Holdings = Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Alphabet (Google), Visa, Home Depot, Coca Cola, Comcast, Philip Morris - VUG holds a good mix of large cap growth companies with a solid 1.18% dividend yield make this a staple in my portfolio. (SPY) SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust - Launched in 1993, this is literally the oldest ETF in existence, and it’s been one of the most solid over the years. - The spider S&P 500 tracks all of the companies contained within...You guessed it… the S&P 500! - 1 year ROI = 18.05% - 5 year ROI = 89.61% - Top 10 holdings are Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, Johnson & Johnson, Berkshire Hathaway, JP Morgan Chase, Exxon, Google, Bank of America - This is for investors who want just a little less volatility than you would get with a growth ETF like VUG - This is a great “set it and forget it" ETF that you just add to monthly (VYM) VANGUARD High Dividend Yield - Dividend-paying stocks tend to perform better, as a group, than non-dividend stocks, and also generally do better during tough economic times. - For investors who want exposure to rock-solid dividend stocks, but don't want the guesswork and risk involved with choosing individual stocks - Invests in 401 stocks that pay higher-than-average dividend yields, and specifically excludes REITs - 1 year ROI = 12.36% - 5 year ROI= 73.34% ARK ETF Trust - The ARK ETF is an actively-managed fund that focuses on companies working in next-generation sectors, like cloud computing and Big Data. It has a nice mixture of recognizable names, as well as lesser-known speculative companies. - BitCoin Investment Trust is the top holding in ARK, and this fund is banking heavily on bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. While that may seem like an unnecessarily heavy risk, I believe could possibly pay off handsomely. - 1 year ROI = 85.34% - Since Oct 2014 = 139% - Top 10 holdings: bitcoin investment trust, amazon, athena health, twitter, tesla, 2U inc, netflix, nvidia, google, mercadolibre. Bitcoin and the blockchain are the ultimate disruptors. 💜 The Best Index Funds To Invest In 2019 💜

10:25
💜 Monk's Market Moves: http://bit.ly/MonkMove - Be The First To See All My Stock Trades! 💜 These are the best index funds to invest in the stock market in 2019. These top index fund ETFs are very good for the passive investor. I'll go over why these ETFs are good to invest in, expected returns in the stock market, and the best method to buy these index funds. The most popular and well known index fund is the S&P 500, or the Standard and Poor's 500. This index fund contains 500 American companies such as Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Facebook, and Google. This index fund has an average return of 10% a year in the past 100 years. This means you could become a millionaire if you invested just 300 dollars in this index. This is a very safe stock in the stock market because there are 500 companies in one fund. The stock market can crash, causing a dip of 20 to 60%, but over the long term, it'll likely go back up. You can buy the S&P 500 using the ticker symbol VOO in the stock market. The Nasdaq 100 is a great index fund in the market. It contains 100 technology related companies. This index fund is more volatile since 100 companies is less safe than 500. The Nasdaq 100 is for people who prefer to be invested in technology, while the S&P 500 is for people who want to diversify more. The Nasdaq 100 had higher returns than the S&P 500 over the past 10 years. These are both great index funds to invest in the stock market. Perfect stocks for the passive investor who still want to reach a million dollars.

SPY ETF or High Yield Dividend Stock Portfolio

19:00
Today I answer the question: Why bother investing in a high yield dividend stock portfolio when I could just buy the SPY EFT of QQQ ETF and make an annual return of 7.8% without doing any research. This is a worksheet analysis of what happens to a portfolio when it is being drawn from. Dividend Portfolio and SPY EFT can both be used as passive income strategies and do come with risk. VGRO ETF Review | Vanguard Growth ETF Portfolio

13:16
In this video I'll be doing a review of one of Vanguard's newer ETFs - VGRO! The Vanguard Growth ETF Portfolio. We'll do a general overview of the fund, take a look beneath the hood at the different components of the ETF, and ultimately see if it's a suitable fund for you! 📈 My Personal Portfolio & Trading Updates | Brandon’s Buys ➤ https://bit.ly/2RiD9Q9 Website ➤ https://www.brandonbeavis.com Vanguard is one of the largest fund companies in the world. I believe the 2nd largest here in Canada. They specialize in the low-cost index fund, however VGRO is 1 of 3 new funds the company launched in January. These Vanguard "Asset Allocation" Portfolios are essentially an "ALL-IN-ONE" fund. Almost like a prepackaged portfolio. The 3 options available are: VCNS - The Vanguard Conservative ETF Portfolio (40/60) VBAL - The Vanguard Balanced ETF Portfolio (60/40) VGRO - The Vanguard Growth ETF Portfolio (80/20) https://www.vanguardcanada.ca/individual/etfs/about-our-asset-allocation-etfs.htm?lang=en https://www.vanguardcanada.ca/individual/indv/en/product.html#/fundDetail/etf/portId=9579/assetCode=balanced/?overview These 3 portfolios are built up of other Vanguard ETFs. The term you will hear for this is a fund of funds... fittingly. VGRO seems to be gaining more and more popularity these days so I thought it would be valuable to do a review of this growth ETF. I hope you all enjoy the video. If you did, feel free to give it a like and subscribe. I post a video every Monday! Thank you all for watching! Brandon Brandon Beavis Investing :)

Best Dividend Stocks to Invest in 2018

10:18
What are the 10 Best Dividend Stocks for an Investment in 2018? These 10 stock picks are dividend stocks for 2018 that are critical for investors looking for dividends for their portfolio. The purpose today is to go over 10 stocks (and a bonus stock - so 11 total!) that you could consider as part of a dividend play in your portfolio. All 10 of these picks provide a yield of over 2% and I feel that for most cases you should strive for over 2% yield if your strategy is dividends. Anything below that is typically not worth it, unless a company is expected to raise dividends soon. You may be better off looking at some banks that offers GICs and such which usually guarantees a yield less than 2% if that's the route you want to go for less than 2% plays. So coming in at #10 is a drink everyone has heard of (and most likely tried before) - KO -Coca Cola is one of Buffets long term holds, and its a solid company -Provides stability and diversity in your portfolio -KO provides a 3.02% yield In at #9 is one of the dominant players in semiconductors that is most likely powering your computer - INTC -Strong company, stable growth and performance YoY -They bring in a 2.31% yield which is impressive seeing as this company will probably keep growing in the near future #8 was the #1 performer in the DOW in 2017 up over 89% and providing an excellent dividend - and that's BA -Aerospace company that again provides exposure to a different sector outside tech -Brings in a dividend of 2.07% #7 is a company that is widely used, but not many people talk about - MMM -If you've ever had to tape something, you've most likely used a 3M product -This is a very underrated stock and it had an incredible 2017 as well -3M gives us a 2.32% yield and is one of the safer plays out there as they are so dominant in their space Planning a home renovation? Chances are you will drop by a HD - which is my #6 pick -ANother stock that had an incredibly 2017, and with home sales doing well, this will continue doing well -HD gives us a 2.32% dividend #5 is a company I've talked about investing in before - JNJ -They are big in the healthcare space, but my only concern right now is AMZN entering this space -Nonetheless, they still provide a solid dividend at 2.54% Can I have fries with that? MCD is my #4 pick -This is a stock I personally hold in my portfolio for the safety and dividends, but I also believe they will have good growth in 2018 and 2019 -They have made advancements using technology and apps to increase sales and I believe that will show in their profits and revenue -MCD gives us a 2.55% dividend #3 is a company that typically partners with MCD, at least here in Canada, and was a top pick for 2018 by me - WMT -The only true company IMO that can compete with AMZN -They are making advancements with online shopping, and AMZN really needs a #2 competitor and I believe that is WMT -WMT gives us a 2.37% dividend yield as well #2 is a company that profits from our garbage - WM -Well run company with great growth -They provide a 2.15% dividends Finally, #1 on the list is a company that continues to benefit from the strong economy - CAT -Dominant player in their space, and I don't see that changing anytime soon -Along with good growth, it gives us a 2.05% growth Here is a summary: 1) CAT - 2.05% 2) WM - 2.15% 3) WMT - 2.37% 4) MCD - 2.55% 5) JNJ - 2.54% 6) HD - 2.32% 7) MMM - 2.32% 8) BA - 2.07% 9) INTC - 2.31% 10) KO - 3.02% So that's my top 10. As a bonus, I included another stock - AAPL. They currently only pay a 1.41% yield, but investors are expecting this to go up significantly over the coming years as iPhone sales slow down. Apple's true future business isn't the iPhone - it's services and cloud - and as they rake in BILLIONS in profits here, they will most likely raise their dividend over the years. So now I turn it over to you - what are some dividend plays that you think are a must-have in a portfolio? I know there are TONS of other's other there ($PFE, $VZ, etc.) so I'd like to see some discussion here. Thank you for watching! Top 5 Mutual Funds to Buy in 2018

10:23
Free Resources: https://bit.ly/2wymZbJ My pick for the best mutual fund with a 1-year return is the American Funds New Perspective Fund® Class F-1 which boasts a 1-year return of 28.78%. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol NPFFX. Now although future returns are all speculative, that is a phenomenal return for any short-term investor. Hypothetically that means that if you invest $2,500, which is the minimum to invest, today and sell out at the end of the year, you’ll have made $719.50. Now, this fund is of a moderate risk and has 319 holdings, the top 5 of which are Amazon, Facebook Inc. A, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd, Naspers Ltd Class N, and Microsoft Corporation. This fund is technically a world fund which is why you see such a diverse set of holdings. As mentioned earlier this fund is a 5-star fund and has no transaction fees. Alright, so my pick for the best 5-year fund is the Fidelity® 500 Index Fund — Institutional Premium Class which boasts a 5-year return of 15.78%. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol FXAIX.  This fund has no minimum so hypothetically if you invest $2,500 today and sell out in 5 years, you’ll have made roughly $2,703.50 which I found using a custom Excel calculator that accounts for compound interest. Moving into my third pick which is for the mutual fund with the best 10-year return. The fund I pick for this category is the Fidelity® Nasdaq® Composite Index Fund which boasts a 10-year return of 11.09%. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol FNCMX. Similar to the first fund, this fund has a minimum of $2,500 so hypothetically if you invest $2,500 today and sell out in 10 years, you’ll have made roughly $7,156.32 which I again found using a custom Excel calculator that accounts for compound interest. This fund is of a moderate risk and consists of 2,196 holdings, the top 5 of which are Apple Inc., Microsoft Corp, Facebook Inc. A, Amazon Inc., and ALPHABET INC CL C. So I think we’re starting to see a trend here between the top holdings of these funds. As our world becomes more tech-driven, leading companies such as apple an Microsoft will continue to grow. Alright, my fourth pick which is for the best foreign mutual fund is the Fidelity® International Enhanced Index Fund which boasts one year return of 27.59%, a five-year return of 9.35%, and a ten-year return of 2.3%. Because of its weak 10 year return, I would consider this a short to mid-year hold which would be around 2 to 5 years. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol FIENX. Like most Fidelity funds, this fund has a minimum of $2,500 so hypothetically if you invest $2,500 today and sell out in 5 years, you’ll have made roughly $1,406.93. This fund is of a moderate risk and consists of 264 holdings, the top 5 of which are, excuse my pronunciation, NOVARTIS AG (REG), NESTLE SA (REG), ROCHE HLDGS AG (GENUSSCHEINE), TOTAL SA (FRAN), and BAYER AG. So it's nice to see some different holdings than the last funds but I’m sure you saw some familiar names there like Bayer and Nestle. Now the benefit to holding a foreign fund is that it’s less correlated with the US stock market. That means that during a recession, your foreign holdings may fair better than your US holdings. Okay, so my fifth and final pick which is for the best balanced mutual fund is the T. Rowe Price Personal Strategy Growth Fund which has one year return of 21.91%, a five-year return of 11.60%, and a ten-year return of 7.06%. Although a 10-year return of 7.06% is still decent, I would also recommend this as a medium-term hold. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol TRSGX. This fund has a minimum of $2,500 so hypothetically if you invest $2,500 today and sell out in 5 years, you’ll have made roughly $1,827.74. This fund is of a lower risk and consists of Cash, convertibles, domestic bonds, preferred stock, foreign bonds, foreign stock, domestic stock, and others, whatever that means. Because this is a balanced fund, it’s already diversified which makes it a lot easier for the investor. The reason I recommend this fund is because it has a lengthy history of excellent performance and it’s already diversified which makes it a nice holding during a recession.   Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe so that you don’t miss any future content. I’ll see you later. Andrew Clee: When can you expect dividend strategies to perform?

04:15
We had the pleasure of chatting with Andrew Clee, Vice President, ETFs, Fidelity Investments Canada, about the power of dividends, and how the dividend factor, or dividend investing strategies, fit into a portfolio. We asked Andrew Clee when investors could expect dividend based strategies could be expected to perform well. It's worth noting that dividend tilted strategies have consistently been among the best performers, displaying outperformance in most the rolling 3 year periods, throughout the last 15 years.

One-Decision Asset Allocation ETFs (VCIP/VCNS/VBAL/VGRO/VEQT | XBAL/XGRO)

Being a DIY ETF investor is not particularly hard, but up until recently, it was not particularly easy, either. Back in 2017, the simplest portfolio around was Robb Engen’s four-minute portfolio, which consists of only two equity ETFs. If you wanted to reduce your equity exposure you would have had to buy a third ETF for bond exposure. Three ETFs is pretty simple, but it still requires some thinking for rebalancing and some discipline to rebalance into whatever asset class is down at the time. All of that changed when Vanguard launched their asset allocation ETFs last year. I’m Ben Felix, associate portfolio manager at PWL Capital. Dividend ETFs Sought for Solid Revenue Streams

08:20
https://goo.gl/QPCkqk - Start earning with binary options like millions of traders do Seasoned investors know the importance of dividends, particularly when investing over the long-term. Historical data suggest reinvested dividends can account for 40% or more of total returns over long holding periods. Another advantage of dividend stocks is that, historically, dividend payers are less volatile than their non-payout counterparts. And with dividend stocks being less volatile and experiencing smaller drawdowns during bear markets, dividend payers often perform stocks that do not have payouts over the long haul. For investors that do not want to pick individual dividend stocks or that want to supplement such allocations with diversified baskets of dividend payers, there is no shortage of dividend-oriented exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for North American investors to consider. In fact, there are nearly 200 dividend ETFs available on U.S. and Canadian exchanges. Five of the 100 largest U.S.-listed ETFs are dividend funds and as a sub-category of the smart beta universe, dividend ETFs are one of the biggest contributors to combined smart beta assets and asset growth. Exploring Different Dividend ETF Strategies While there are scores of dividends ETFs to consider, many of which have names that imply these funds are almost twins, investors should be careful to note that not all dividend ETFs deliver income in the same way. One of the most popular weighting methodologies for dividend ETFs is selecting stocks with a requisite dividend increase. For example, several of the largest dividend ETFs mandate stocks included in the fund have minimum dividend increase streaks of 10, 20 or 25 years. The S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats Index requires its components to have payout increase streaks of at least 20 years while the S&P 500 High Yield Dividend Aristocrats Index has a 25-year dividend increase streak mandate. There are ETFs dedicated to both benchmarks. The Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG) is home to nearly $24 billion in assets, making it the world's largest dividend ETF. It tracks the NASDAQ US Dividend Achievers Select Index, which holds companies with minimum payout increase streaks of 10 years. Advantages of emphasizing payout consistency include the potential for an ETF's roster to be comprised of quality companies with strong balance sheets that can afford their current dividend obligations as well as being able to afford future payout increases. Another popular strategy used by providers of dividend ETFs is weighting components by yield. Typically, yield-weighted ETFs have dividend yields that are noticeably above broader equity benchmarks and government bonds. That is the goods news. The risk with yield-weighted strategies is that they are typically heavy on defensive, high-yielding sectors that are not only richly valued, but also highly sensitive to interest rate changes due to their bond-like traits. Additionally, some high-yield dividend payers hail from companies that are not financially hea
