In this personal cinematic portrait the men and women give their accounts of the daily challenges presented by artisanal gold mining. The initiative Heartbeat Uganda supports these communities that were visited by earthbeat in 2013 with protection and health equipment to lay the groundwork for improvement. Chinese hotel owner arrested for breeding tortoises illegally

The Uganda Wild life Authority, Police flying squad and Uganda National Resource observation Network have impounded ten tortoises being kept at a restaurant in Gulu town. The restaurant management said the tortoises are part of what they use to attract clients. However, the National Resource Conservation Network insisted that the owners must have a license to keep the animals, which they said, were sold to them at between 5,000 and 15,000 shillings. President Yoweri Museveni has written to the ministry of Education to expedite the process. The Education Minister Jessica Alupo has confirmed that Megha Industries wants to be allocated about 5 hectares of University land for its expansion. The Minister was today appearing before the social service committee of parliament and also revealed plans to recruit 2300 teachers for secondary schools this financial year.
