Black Markets, White Markets: A False Narrative
In this talk, Andreas picks apart the false dichotomy of 'rainbow' market types (white, grey, black, red, blue), the underlying moral assumptions in these classifications, and why Bitcoin's colorblindness matters in a world where state 'justice as a service' (JaaS) is not only jurisdictionally relative and contradictory on a global scale, but often faulty and destructive within its own borders. CLARIFICATION: At 6:50, I said that it was illegal to use bitcoin in to escape Venezuela's currency collapse. This is somewhat incorrect. There is still no law in Venezuela that is explicitly in favor or against the use of bitcoin itself; Bitcoin's status in Venezuela would be more accurately described as a grey market. Authorities have justified arrests based on accusations of "committing cyber fraud and power theft," or "money laundering" and "financing terrorism." Bitcoin miners are often subject to extortion by local police. Another charge has been "bypassing currency controls," which is what I meant to address in that statement. This is my first time using YouTube's new Premiere feature, so please let me know if you enjoyed it and I will consider doing more of these releases in the future. Waste Baler for Municipal Solid Waste MAC 112 - Idroedil – Macpresse balers
Waste baler MAC 112 is the largest version of the MACPRESSE “L” series models, designed and built to compact Municipal Solid Waste, RDF and, in general, all recyclable materials. In this video you can see MAC 112 processing MSW, from collection to landfilling. Waste is collected from the plant tipping floor and dropped into a bag opener, then it is carried to a trommel, where organic fraction is separated from inorganic; ferrous and non ferrous metals coming from the undersieve are then separated through magnets and eddy current. Ferrous and non ferrous are then separated also from the inorganic fraction, and residuals are baled and placed in the landfill through a ramp; during the baling process, the wet fraction of the residuals is collected with a leachate conveyor belt running all around the baler. Baling and wrapping presents several advantages, among which: - Reduction of transport cost thanks to volumetric reduction and optimised bale size - Extended landfill’s life - Optimised use of space for transportation, storing and landfilling MAC 112 stands out in its category for its low power consumption and high efficiency and it is ideal for transfer stations and landfills. In this video you can see MAC 112 baler at work while processing MSW residuals in an Italian landfill. The plant manages 100,000 metric tons of product and produces about 2 MW of biogas thanks to the organic separation and leachate collection. ►To learn more about MAC 112: http://www.macpresse.com/en/prodotti/waste-baler-mac-112/ ►To learn more about Macpresse subscribe our channel and visit our website http://www.macpresse.com/en/ ---------------------------------------------------------- For any other information, please, send us an e-mail: [email protected] Keep in touch: subscribe our newsletter http://www.macpresse.com/en/macpresse-mag/

EXPO – Magic of the White City (Narrated by Gene Wilder)
Narrated by Gene Wilder, EXPO – Magic of the White City brings the Chicago World’s Fair to life. Experience the world of 1893 through a cinematic visit to Chicago’s Columbian Exposition. Subscribe for more great documentaries! Nearly 28 million people visited the Fair. Dubbed the “White City,” it inspired future innovators like Henry Ford and Frank Lloyd Wright, unveiled the Ferris Wheel and Cracker Jack®, and, in many ways, marked the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the era’s greatest achievements in science, technology and culture were unveiled there. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famous for his design of New York City’s Central Park, and constructed under the supervision of Daniel Burnham. The Fair was an engineering marvel. On opening day, President Grover Cleveland depressed a golden telegraph key which sent the first courses of electricity throughout the Fair powering fountains, machines, electric railways and thousands of lights. It was the first use of electricity on such a massive scale. In addition, fairgoers enjoyed the Midway Plaisance where a one-mile boulevard of fun offered camel riding and guilty pleasures such as belly dancing, street fighting and beer drinking. Against the backdrop of 1893’s troubles with workers’ rights, prejudice, discrimination and corruption, the World’s Columbian Exposition cast a brief ray of hope for the future of humanity. Filmed in spectacular High-Definition, EXPO – Magic of the White City immerses viewers in one of the world’s biggest extravaganzas and one of the most unforgettable events in American history. There will never be another event like it… or will there?

http://ThoriumRemix.com/ Thorium is an abundant material which can be transformed into massive quantities of energy. To do so efficiently requires a very different nuclear reactor than the kind we use today- Not one that uses solid fuel rods, but a reactor in which the fuel is kept in a liquid state. Not one that uses pressurized water as a coolant, but a reactor that uses chemically stable molten salts. Such a reactor is called a "Molten Salt Reactor". Many different configurations are possible. Some of these configurations can harness Thorium very efficiently. This video explores the attributes of Molten Salt Reactors. Why are they compelling? And why do many people (including myself) see them as the only economical way of fully harnessing ALL our nuclear fuels... including Thorium. This video has been under development since 2012. I hope it conveys to you why I personally find Molten Salt Reactors so compelling, as do the many volunteers and supporters who helped create it. Much of the footage was shot by volunteers. Argonne OutLoud: How Advanced Reactors Will Change Nuclear Power and the World
Lecture Date: 5-11-2017 Global energy demand is expected to grow nearly 50 percent by 2040, with most of that from fossil fuels. Yet nuclear energy is still the only carbon-free power that can satisfy our electricity-hungry world at the scales that most towns and factories need. New advanced reactors, such as fast reactors, offer other advantages that can also address environmental, fuel availability, and used-fuel storage issues. But just what are these advanced reactors? Argonne engineers Francesco Ganda and Bo Feng explain how these power plant marvels work and what role Argonne has in their design and development.

GSD Talks: Clare Lyster and Mason White
Clare Lyster and Mason White join Charles Waldheim, Daniel Ibañez, and others to discuss the recently released volume, Third Coast Atlas: Prelude to a Plan. Third Coast Atlas: Prelude to a Plan (Ibañez, Lyster, Waldheim, and White, eds.) describes the conditions for urbanization across the Great Lakes region. It assembles a multi-layered, empirical description of urbanization processes within the drainage basins of the five Great Lakes and the Saint Lawrence River. This thick description encompasses a range of representational forms including maps, plans, diagrams, timelines, and photographs, as well as speculative design research projects and critical texts. Postponing diagnosis, let alone treatment of these conditions, Third Coast Atlas aspires to simply describe. It proposes a new geographic gestalt for urban analysis. Superimposed upon the North American continent, and with easily recognizable yet divergent political and geological borders, this megaregion traverses portions of eight U.S. states and two Canadian provinces, as well as the world’s largest collection of surficial fresh water. Third Coast Atlas characterizes the littoral edge as a distinct field of urbanization, and constructs a reading of the region both specific and speculative. In this event, Lyster and White will present a brief lecture, followed by a panel discussion with Pierre Bélanger, Rosetta Elkin, Daniel Ibañez, and Rania Ghosn. Charles Waldheim will host and moderate the discussion. Clare Lyster is an Irish architect, educator, and writer based in Chicago, Illinois. Lyster is associate professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Architecture. She is principal of CLUAA, a research-based design office in Chicago operating at the intersection of architecture, landscape, and planning. In addition to her design practice, Lyster writes about architecture and urbanism from the perspective of contemporary theories in landscape, infrastructure, and globalization. Lyster is author of Learning from Logistics: How Networks Inform Cities (Birkhauser, 2015) and her essays have appeared in Cabinet, Chicago Architect, Journal of Architectural Education, Journal of Landscape Architecture, MONU, The Architect’s Newspaper, and Places. Mason White is a Canadian-American architect and urbanist based in Toronto, Ontario. White is founding partner of Lateral Office, a Toronto-based experimental design practice that operates at the intersection of architecture, landscape, and urbanism. In addition to his practice, White is associate professor at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto. He is recipient of the Emerging Voices and Young Architects Prize from the Architectural League of New York; the Wheelwright Fellowship from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design; the Friedman Visiting Professorship at the University of California, Berkeley; and the Lefevre Fellowship at The Ohio State University. White is co-editor of Bracket, vol. 1 and co-editor of Pamphlet Architecture, no. 30: Coupling—Strategies for Infrastructural Opportunism.

Thorium: An energy solution - THORIUM REMIX 2011
http://patreon.com/thorium Thorium is plentiful & can be used to generate energy without creating transuranic wastes. Thorium's capacity as nuclear fuel was discovered during WW II, but ignored because it was unsuitable for making bombs. A liquid-fluoride thorium reactor (LFTR) is the optimal approach for harvesting energy from Thorium, and has the potential to solve today's energy/climate crisis. LFTR is a type of Thorium Molten Salt Reactor (Th-MSR). This video summarizes over 6 hours worth of thorium talks given by Kirk Sorensen and other thorium technologists. THORIUM REMIX 2011 starts with a 5 minute TL;WL summary, to hold you over until you find your Ritalin. YouTube Closed Captioning is available in English, and many other languages. To learn more about the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor visit: http://energyfromthorium.com/ See http://THORIUMREMIX.com/ for full list of multimedia source material. A: Thorium is a naturally-occuring mineral that holds large amounts of releasable nuclear energy, similar to uranium. This nuclear energy can be released in a special nuclear reactor designed to use thorium. Thorium is special because it is easier to extract this energy completely than uranium due to some of the chemical and nuclear properties of thorium. Q: What is a liquid-fluoride reactor? A: A liquid-fluoride nuclear reactor is different than conventional nuclear reactors that use solid fuel elements. A liquid-fluoride reactor uses a solution of several fluoride salts, typically lithium fluoride, beryllium fluoride, and uranium tetrafluoride, as its basic nuclear fuel. The fluoride salts have a number of advantages over solid fuels. They are impervious to radiation damage, they can be chemically processed in the form that they are in, and they have a high capacity to hold thermal energy (heat). Additional nuclear fuel can be added or withdrawn from the salt solution during normal operation. Q: Are the salts safe? A: Very safe. Unlike other coolants considered for high-performance reactors (like liquid sodium) the salts will not react dangerously with air or water. This is because they are already in their most stable chemical form. Their properties do not change even under intense radiation, unlike all solid forms of nuclear fuel. Q: What is nuclear waste and how does a liquid-fluoride reactor address this issue? A: So-called "nuclear waste" or spent-nuclear fuel is produced in conventional (solid-core) nuclear reactors because they are unable to extract all of the nuclear energy from their fuel before they have to shutdown. LFTR addresses this issue by using a form of nuclear fuel (liquid-fluoride salts of thorium) that allow complete extraction of nuclear energy from the fuel. "Fluid Fuel Reactors", James A. Lane, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, 1958. http://moltensalt.org/references/static/downloads/pdf/
