Cripple Creek LYRICS WORDS BEST TOP POPULAR FAVORITE TRENDING SING ALONG SONGS

00:28
"Cripple Creek" is an Old Time Appalachian folk song for the fiddle, though it is often played on the banjo as well. It has become a standard among bluegrass musicians and is often one of the first songs a banjo picker learns.[1] No one knows exactly when it was composed, but there are theories about just where Cripple Creek is. Some say it is Cripple Creek, Virginia, while others say it is based on Cripple Creek, Colorado during the gold rush. It was frequently recorded by early country musicians in the 1920s. Cripple Creek's wide and Cripple Creek's deep I'll wad Cripple Creek before i sleep Roll my breeches to my knees I'll wade Cripple Creek when I please. Goin' up Cripple Creek, going in a run; Goin' up Cripple Creek to have a little fun. In 1965, I did 6 episodes of a public TV series for children called "What's New." I presented folk songs from all over the world, and many instruments, to the best of my ability at the time. We shot these episodes at Brooklyn College and Joan Sheppard was the director.

[Lyrics The Monkees - Cripple Creek] Well I married a wife in the month of June, Married her up by the light of the moon. We live down on Cripple Creek. We've been there about a week. [Chorus] I'm a-goin' down to Cripple Creek, I'm goin' on a run. Goin' down to Cripple Creek to have some fun. Goin' down to Cripple Creek, I'm goin' on a run. Goin' down to Cripple Creek to have some fun. Now Cripple Creek girl's about half-grown, Jump on a man like a dog on a bone. Roll my pants up to my knees, Cross on Cripple Creek a-when I please. [Chorus] Well I'm goin' to Cripple Creek, I'm goin' on a run. I'm a-goin' to Cripple Creek to have some fun. [Chorus] I'm a-goin' to Cripple Creek, I'm goin' on a run, Goin' to Cripple Creek to have some fun.

Up On Cripple Creek - The Band (The Band 5 of 10)

04:36
UP ON CRIPPLE CREEK The Band The Band (1970) When I get off of this mountain, you know where I want to go? Straight down the Mississippi river, to the Gulf of Mexico To Lake Charles, Louisiana, little Bessie, girl that I once knew She told me just to come on by, if there's anything she could do Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one Good luck had just stung me, to the race track I did go She bet on one horse to win and I bet on another to show The odds were in my favor, I had 'em five to one When that nag to win came around the track, sure enough she had won Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one I took up all of my winnings, and I gave my little Bessie half And she tore it up and threw it in my face, just for a laugh Now there's one thing in the whole wide world, I sure would like to see That's when that little love of mine, dips her doughnut in my tea Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one Now me and my mate were back at the shack, we had Spike Jones on the box She said, "I can't take the way he sings, but I love to hear him talk" Now that just gave my heart a throb, to the bottom of my feet And I swore and I took another pull, my Bessie can't be beat Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one Now there's a flood out in California and up north it's freezing cold And this living on the road is getting pretty old So I guess I'll call up my big mama, tell her I'll be rolling in But you know, deep down, I'm kind of tempted To go and see my Bessie again. Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one

The Band - Up on Cripple Creek

04:39
According to Wikipedia: "Up on Cripple Creek" is the fifth song on The Band's eponymous second album, The Band. It was released as a (edited) single on Capitol 2635 in November 1969 and reached #25 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Up on Cripple Creek" was written by Band guitarist and principal songwriter Robbie Robertson, with drummer Levon Helm singing lead vocal. A live performance of "Up on Cripple Creek" appears in The Band's live concert film The Last Waltz, as well as on the accompanying soundtrack album. In addition, a live version of the song appears on Before the Flood; a live album of The Band's various concerts and shows with Bob Dylan while touring together in 1974. "Up on Cripple Creek" is notable as it is one of the first accounts of a Hohner Clavinet being played with a wah-wah pedal. The riff can be heard after the chorus of the song. The Clavinet, especially in tandem with a wah pedal was a sound that became famous in the early to mid '70s especially in funk music, and continues to be popular to this day. Lyrics: When I get off of this mountain, you know where I want to go? Straight down the Mississippi river, to the Gulf of Mexico To Lake Charles, Louisiana, little Bessie-girl I once knew She told me just to come on by, if there's anything that she could do Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak, she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one Good luck had just stung me, to the race track I did go She bet on one horse to win and I bet on another to show The odds were in my favor, I had 'em five to one When that nag to win came around the track, sure enough we had won Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak, she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one I took up all of my winnings, and I gave my little Bessie half She tore it up and threw it in my face, just for a laugh Now there's one thing in the whole wide world, I sure would like to see That's when that little love of mine dips her doughnut in my tea Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak, she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one Now me and my mate were back at the shack, we had Spike Jones on the box She said, "I can't take the way he sings, but I love to hear him talk" Now that just gave my heart a throb, to the bottom of my feet And I swore as I took another pull, my Bessie can't be beat Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak, she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one There's a flood out in California and up north it's freezing cold And this living off the road is gettin' pretty old So I guess I'll call up my big mama, tell her I'll be rolling in But you know, deep down, I'm kind of tempted To go and see my Bessie again Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak, she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one

Leavin' by The Cripple Creek Band - Original Song

04:28
Leavin' is track 8 on The Cripple Creek Bands debut album. Written by Neal Morgan and Danny Morris (BMI/ASCAP). Available on iTunes, cdbaby.com, and Spotify. This is a sad song that anyone chasing a dream can relate to. It's about life on the road. It's about paying the costs associated with living that lifestyle. The lyrics paint a lonesome picture that all too many musicians have experienced.

Neil Young - Cripple Creek Ferry - Lyrics

Video with the lyrics of the song shown on screen, scrolling bottom-up. The text is accompanied by audio. The lyrics are also repeated in the description. Here they are: Neil Young - Cripple Creek Ferry - Lyrics Hey, hey Cripple Creek ferry Butting through the overhanging trees Make way for the Cripple Creek ferry The waters going down it's a mighty tight squeeze. All alone the captain stands Hasn't heard from his deck hands. The gambler tips his hat and walks towards the door. It's the second half of the cruise. And you know he hates to lose. Hey, hey Cripple Creek ferry Butting through the overhanging trees Make way for the Cripple Creek ferry The waters going down it's a mighty tight squeeze. This is a special version/performance of this song: the lyrics are being read by a computer voice. This might be a help for people who can't understand the lyrics when they are being sung in the song itself, and who may suffer reading problems or are visually impaired. This 'cover version' is of course not the official video, but it provides a unique focus on the lyrics, without any possible distraction caused by music or by singing the text. Cripple Creek - Clawhammer Ukulele with Tablature

06:35
The traditional song "Cripple Creek" arranged for clawhammer uke. I played several verses of the song with chords and lyrics with a break between most verses. After the song I included tablature for both a simplified arrangement with no slurred notes as well as the break as I played it on the recording. If you're new to clawhammer or don't know how to read tablature please be sure to watch my instructional videos on the subject.

Willard Losinger Sings "Cripple Creek" with Banjo Accompaniment--Lyrics are Posted

03:08
This is probably the most famous and most widely performed American folk song. Just about any instruction book on how to play either bluegrass or traditional American music on the banjo, violin/fiddle, guitar, or mandolin will have Cripple Creek near the beginning. Richard Matteson provides a long list of recording artists who have recorded Cripple Creek: http://www.mattesonart.com/cripple-creek-song-history.aspx And, David Viney provides a history of the song: http://theband.hiof.no/articles/up_on_cripple_creek_viney.html Given the rather bawdy and salacious character of some of the song lyrics, I tend to regard Cripple Creek, Colorado as the location referenced by the song. As described in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvIieHZhYMs Cripple Creek was a booming mining town from about the 1890s to the 1920s. Just about every imaginable vice was available in the city, including (gasp!) gambling, sex, drugs, theaters, and rock and roll! You may read about Paula de Vere, Cripple Creek's best remembered Madame, here: http://www.mountainjackpot.com/2013/11/24/cripple-creeks-fabulous-pearl-de-vere/ Cripple Creek eventually lost a lot of its population and turned into something of a ghost town, with plenty of abandoned buildings. However, since the 1990s, legalized gambling has caused Cripple Creek, once again, to become a boom town, with (gasp!) gambling, sex, drugs, theaters, and rock and roll! Here is Tracy Newman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew6DS2bXYmk And here is Buffy Sainte-Marie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXkM11kp_tg I obviously wasn't joking about the lewd origins of the song, although these ladies would have interpreted the lyrics innocently enough. For a lot of performers, especially of the Bluegrass genre, the emphasis is on demonstrating technical mastery of one's instrument, and actually singing in a way that the audience can understand the words is deprecated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQpu2Zk1SYQ Anyway, here are my lyrics I got a gal and she loves me, She's as sweet as a bumble bee, She's got eyes of baby blue, Makes my gun shoot straight and true. CHORUS: Goin' up Cripple Creek goin' in a run Goin' up Cripple Creek to have a little fun. Goin’ up Cripple Creek, goin’ in a whirl, Goin’ up Cripple Creek, to find me a girl. I went down To Cripple Creek, To see what them gals were having to drink. Got so drunk, I fell against the wall, The old corn liqueur was the cause of it all. See them women sitting in the shade, Waiting for the money that the miners have made. Pearl de Vere runs the Old Homestead The finest brothel with the comfiest beds When Cripple Creek girls are about half-grown, They jump on a man like a dog on a bone. Drop my pants below my knees, Come on Cripple Creek when I please. My gal works in Cripple Creek, I can’t afford to see her more than once a week Kisses on the mouth, just as sweet as any wine, Wraps herself around me like a sweet potato vine. I married a wife in the month of June, Married her up by the light of the moon. Last night I lost her in a game of cards Finding another one shouldn’t be too hard

Desperado - Girl Scout Song with Lyrics

02:13
A fun repeat and answer song! LYRICS This is a repeat and answer song, Except for the chorus, Which goes like this: -Chorus- He was a big bull man, he was a desperado, From Cripple Creek way out in Colorado, And he horsed around like a big tornado, And everywhere he went he gave a yee-hoo There was a desperado from the wild and wooly west, He wore a big sombrero and two guns across his chest, He rode out to Chicago just to give the west a rest, And everywhere he went he gave a yee-hoo. Chorus He went to Coney Island just to check out all the sights, He rode the rollercoaster and it gave him such a fright, It gave him double vision so he shot out all the lights, And everywhere he went he gave a yee-hoo. Chorus There was a desperado just a walkin' down the street, There was a big policeman just a cruisin' on his beat, He grabbed him by the collar and he grabbed him by the seat, And he threw him so he couldn't give his yee-hoo. Chorus
