Game Theory Explained in One Minute

01:28
You can't be good at economics if you aren't capable of putting yourself in the position of other people and seeing things from their perspective, you just can't. Game theory helps you do just that. Whenever you're involved in situations in which the outcome depends not only on your actions but on the actions of other participants as well, game theory is all about helping you figure out what the best approach is based on what the other (presumed to be rational) actors are more likely to do. Please like, comment and subscribe if you've enjoyed the video. Futures Market Explained

04:27
Farmers use various tools to control the many risks in agriculture. Watching the weather influences when they plant or harvest. Buying crop insurance and selecting farm bill safety net programs helps protect them from crop devastation. But they can also manage some of the threat posed by volatile market prices by participating in the futures market. Farmers can get a feel for how that works if they play Commodity Classic, an online teaching tool that uses fictitious bushels of grain in a fake futures market. But here at Harvest Public Media, we wanted to better understand how the futures market helps both producers and users of a major commodity, such as corn. And how the benefits trickle down to regular food consumers. Here’s what we learned.

Smart contracts help you exchange money, property, shares, or anything of value in a transparent, conflict-free way, while avoiding the services of a middleman. The best way to describe smart contracts is to compare the technology to a vending machine. Ordinarily, you would go to a lawyer or a notary, pay them, and wait while you get the document. With smart contracts, you simply drop a bitcoin into the vending machine (i.e. ledger), and your escrow, driver’s license, or whatever drops into your account. More so, smart contracts not only define the rules and penalties around an agreement in the same way that a traditional contract does, but also automatically enforce those obligations. Example Suppose you rent an apartment from me. You can do this through the blockchain by paying in cryptocurrency. You get a receipt which is held in our virtual contract; I give you the digital entry key which comes to you by a specified date. If the key doesn’t come on time, the blockchain releases a refund. If I send the key before the rental date, the function holds it releasing both the fee and key to you and me respectively when the date arrives. The system works on the If-Then premise and is witnessed by hundreds of people, so you can expect a faultless delivery. If I give you the key, I’m sure to be paid. If you send a certain amount in bitcoins, you receive the key. The document is automatically cancelled after the time, and the code cannot be interfered by either of us without the other knowing, since all participants are simultaneously alerted. You can use smart contracts for all sort of situations that range from financial derivatives to insurance premiums, breach contracts, property law, credit enforcement, financial services, legal processes and crowd funding agreements. The Third Industrial Revolution: A Radical New Sharing Economy

01:44:59
The global economy is in crisis. The exponential exhaustion of natural resources, declining productivity, slow growth, rising unemployment, and steep inequality, forces us to rethink our economic models. Where do we go from here? In this feature-length documentary, social and economic theorist Jeremy Rifkin lays out a road map to usher in a new economic system. A Third Industrial Revolution is unfolding with the convergence of three pivotal technologies: an ultra-fast 5G communication internet, a renewable energy internet, and a driverless mobility internet, all connected to the Internet of Things embedded across society and the environment. This 21st century smart digital infrastructure is giving rise to a radical new sharing economy that is transforming the way we manage, power and move economic life. But with climate change now ravaging the planet, it needs to happen fast. Change of this magnitude requires political will and a profound ideological shift. Economic Collapse Already Started! Cezary Graf's US Dollar & Cryptocurrency Supremacy View

10:15
How will the next economic collapse look step by step? Where will it start? When will it start? What impact will it have, and how will the world look after the global economic crisis and the Next Great Recession? Regarding how it will play out, Cezary Graf notes that Trump and Federal Reserve policy will lead to financial collapse around the world. The economic collapse has already started. The Turkish lira is plunging, the Argentinian central bank has increased interest rates to the cosmic level of 60%, and Iranian inflation is skyrocketing. However, these are minor players. The crucial years will be 2019 and 2020 when the deadly cocktail will be served for India, Pakistan, China, Japan, and the European Union, among others. In 2020, the United States and the dollar will also be hit; however, the magnitude will be significantly limited, in contrast to what many are currently saying about the upcoming dollar collapse. In 2022, after the next global financial crisis, the United States will be in the best shape of all major countries. I am ready to take bets. It is very naive to expect that after the 2000 dot-com bubble burst and 2008-2009 economic collapse, that the third one will again start in the US. From a conservative point of view, the US currency and bond supply are perhaps still too high, and rates may still be too low, however, despite its peculiarity, the dollar and US debt are the most popular US exports. During the next two years, when major emerging markets will be struck by various crises, we will have massive capital flows into the US. This will include the dollar itself, the US bond market, the US stock market, and US real estate. Two major trends can be expected: 1 - A massive human migration crisis. Emerging market countries' citizens will be displaced because of economic reasons. And yet again, the US under the Trump administration will manage it relatively well. 2 - A massive chunk of the capital pulled out of emerging markets will be channeled to the most robust cryptocurrencies. The devaluation of EM currencies, the dismantling of the SWIFT system, and the pursuit of new investment solutions by private, corporate, and public parties will be the main causes of this great money migration. Cezary Graf states that the value of cryptocurrencies will rise substantially from mid-2018 levels, thus making potential returns from other capital allocations much less attractive. Ignoring this is the manifestation of a deep misunderstanding of where the world is now and where it is going. This will be the first crisis with the crypto option on the table. What is a 'Cryptocurrency' A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security. A cryptocurrency is difficult to counterfeit because of this security feature. A defining feature of a cryptocurrency and arguably its most endearing allure is its organic nature; it is not issued by any central authority, rendering it theoretically immune to government interference or manipulation. Cryptocurrency Benefits and Drawbacks Cryptocurrencies make it easier to transfer funds between two parties in a transaction; these transfers are facilitated through the use of public and private keys for security purposes. These fund transfers are done with minimal processing fees, allowing users to avoid the steep fees charged by most banks and financial institutions for wire transfers. What is an API?

03:25
What exactly is an API? Finally learn for yourself in this helpful video from MuleSoft, the API experts. https://www.mulesoft.com/platform/api The textbook definition goes something like this: “An application programming interface (API) is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. An API expresses a software component in terms of its operations, inputs, outputs, and underlying types. An API defines functionalities that are independent of their respective implementations, which allows definitions and implementations to vary without compromising each other. A good API makes it easier to develop a program by providing all the building blocks. APIs often come in the form of a library that includes specifications for routines, data structures, object classes, and variables. In other cases, notably SOAP and REST services, an API is simply a specification of remote calls exposed to the API consumers. An API specification can take many forms, including an International Standard, such as POSIX, vendor documentation, such as the Microsoft Windows API, or the libraries of a programming language, e.g., the Standard Template Library in C++ or the Java APIs. An API differs from an application binary interface (ABI) in that an API is source code-based while an ABI is a binary interface. For instance POSIX is an API, while the Linux Standard Base provides an ABI”. To speak plainly, an API is the messenger that runs and delivers your request to the provider you’re requesting it from, and then delivers the response back to you. To give you a familiar example, think of an API as a waiter in a restaurant. Imagine you’re sitting at the table with a menu of choices to order from, and the kitchen is the provider who will fulfill your order. What’s missing is the critical link to communicate your order to the kitchen and deliver your food back to your table. That’s where the waiter (or API) comes in. ”AHEM” The waiter takes your order, delivers it to the kitchen, and then delivers the food (or response) back to you. (Hopefully without letting your order crash if designed correctly) Now that we’ve whetted your appetite, let’s apply this to a real API example. In keeping with our theme, let’s book a flight to a culinary capital – Paris. You’re probably familiar with the process of searching for airline flights online. Just like at a restaurant, you have a menu of options to choose from ( a dropdown menu in this case). You choose a departure city and date, a return city and date, cabin class, and other variables (like meal or seating, baggage or pet requests) In order to book your flight, you interact with the airline’s website to access the airline’s database to see if any seats are available on those dates, and what the cost might be based on certain variables. But, what if you are not using the airline’s website, which has direct access to the information? What if you are using online travel service that aggregates information from many different airlines? Just like a human interacts with the airline’s website to get that information, an application interacts with the airline’s API. The API is the interface that, like your helpful waiter, runs and and delivers the data from that online travel service to the airline’s systems over the Internet. It also then takes the airline’s response to your request and delivers right back to the online travel service . And through each step of the process it facilitates that interaction between the travel service and the airline’s systems - from seat selection to payment and booking. So now you can see that it’s APIs that make it possible for us all to use travel sites. They interface with with airlines’ APIs to gather information in order to present options back to us The same goes for all interactions between applications, data and devices - they all have API’s that allow computers to operate them, and that's what ultimately creates connectivity. API’s provide a standard way of accessing any application, data or device whether it is shopping from your phone, or accessing cloud applications at work. So, whenever you think of an API, just think of it as your waiter running back and forth between applications, databases and devices to deliver data and create the connectivity that puts the world at our fingertips. And whenever you think of creating an API, think MuleSoft.

Why people are buying cartoon cats on the blockchain

Forget cryptocurrencies. These are cryptocollectibles. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Every time you send something on the internet, it’s a copy. But using new technology, can we make digital goods that are... rare? That’s the question behind CryptoKitties, a new game to buy, breed, and sell digital cats on the blockchain. These cats are more similar to real-world collectibles like beanie babies or baseball cards than they are to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. In just the last few months, a whole community of third party sites and services has formed around CryptoKitties. And fans have spent more than $23 million playing along. Are You Committing This Crypto Investing Sin?

21:30
Another huge mistake many people make when it comes to investing in cryptocurrencies is not sticking in their circle of competence. This is ironic given the fact that this concept was popularized by Warren Buffett and he recently stated that cryptocurrencies will end poorly. Many people use this same concept to argue against Buffett, but we'll revisit that later. Steemit Post: steemit.com/bitcoin/@cryptovestor/are-you-committing-this-crypto-investing-sin Your circle of competence encompasses what you know and know well, rather than what you think you know. In cryptocurrencies, four primary factors contribute to the size of your circle of competence: 1. Technology 2. Investing 3. Finance 4. Economics The more you know about each of these fields, the wider your circle of competence. Most importantly, when you invest inside of your circle of competence, you enable yourself to: 1. Better measure risk 2. Better measure the probability of success, defined as high ROI relative to risk taken on The video goes into far more detail related to four fields listed above. If your circle of competence is small, it is likely best to stick with some of the major cryptocurrencies, namely: 1. Bitcoin 2. Ethereum 3. Ripple 4. Litecoin Note that even these cryptocurrencies have flaws that I would encourage you to learn about. Bitcoin is slow and expensive, Ethereum has major competitors in development which promise better scale, Ripple is more centralized and competing with HUGE pockets, and Litecoin is often considered nothing more than a playground for Bitcoin. Bubbles occur because people invest outside of their circle of competence - They have no choice but to trust others on when to get in, and no choice but to trust others on when to get out because they don't know any better themselves. For example, recently Charles Hoskinson of Cardano and Dan Larimer of EOS had a "debate" over some technical aspects of Cardano. Most people don't have the skillset required to weed out the BS and hence agree with whoever better aligns with their views: Shocker, right? Expand your circle of competence and don't be the idiot who blindly trusts others. That's the jist of the video. Returning to Warren Buffett, many say he's talking outside of his circle of competence: I disagree. He knows better than anybody the psychology of markets, but it doesn't exactly take a genius to see how stupid this market is. It will end poorly at some point. The one part I disagree with is that this will be a permanent bad ending - In the long-run, there will be cryptocurrencies that make us rethink existing business problems & solutions as we know them. Beginners will find information about major cryptocurrencies (not just Bitcoin) as well as details on historical market events (that you can draw on for future) and events to watch for moving into the future. Experts will find the chapters on valuation particularly useful. For those of you involved in traditional investing, this book is even more of a godsend as finance info is explored (correlations with other asset classes, ETFs, etc). ================ My Recommended Exchanges: Coinbase / GDAX / Bittrex https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a08b12e305a1401d79d10e0 If you sign up to Coinbase using link above, you and I will both receive $10 each after you buy your first $100 of Bitcoin using Coinbase. Coinbase is much less intimidating for beginners. Once ready, move up to GDAX for cheaper or zero fees. For altcoins, I recommend Bittrex. ================ Legal Stuff: I am a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for me to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. The Treaty of Versailles Explained in One Minute: From German/Weimar Republic Hyperinflation to WWII

01:59
The Treaty of Versailles is one of the best examples of how complex economics can be. In one minute, I did my best to explain how the Treaty of Versailles had economic effects, monetary effects such as hyperinflation and even unbelievably serious political effects when it comes to WWII. As I hope you'll understand, the Treaty of Versailles ended up not pleasing anyone after drawing the line. The German/Weimar Republic economy was decimated, their currency entered a hyper-inflationary spiral and politically speaking, the implications as far as World War II are concerned shouldn't be hard to understand. To support the channel, give me a minute (see what I did there?) of your time by visiting OneMinuteEconomics.com and reading my message. What is CRYPTO-ANARCHISM? What does CRYPTO-ANARCHISM mean? CRYPTO-ANARCHISM meaning

What is CRYPTO-ANARCHISM? What does CRYPTO-ANARCHISM mean? CRYPTO-ANARCHISM meaning - CRYPTO-ANARCHISM definition - CRYPTO-ANARCHISM explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Crypto-anarchism (or crypto-anarchy) is a cyber-spatial realization of anarchism. Crypto-anarchists employ cryptographic software to evade prosecution and harassment while sending and receiving information over computer networks, in an effort to protect their privacy and political freedom. By using cryptographic software, the association between the identity of a certain user or organization and the pseudonym they use is made difficult to find, unless the user reveals the association. It is difficult to say which country's laws will be ignored, as even the location of a certain participant is unknown. However, participants may in theory voluntarily create new laws using smart contracts or, if the user is pseudonymous, depend on online reputation. One motive of crypto-anarchists is to defend against surveillance of computer networks communication. Crypto-anarchists try to protect against government mass surveillance, such as PRISM, Tempora, telecommunications data retention, the NSA warrantless surveillance controversy, Room 641A, the FRA and so on. Crypto-anarchists consider the development and use of cryptography to be the main defense against such problems, as opposed to political action. A second concern is evasion of censorship, particularly Internet censorship, on the grounds of freedom of expression. The programs used by crypto-anarchists often make it possible to both publish and read information off the internet or other computer networks anonymously. For example, Tor, I2P, Freenet and many similar networks allow for anonymous "hidden" webpages only accessible by users of these programs, while projects like Bitmessage allow for anonymous messaging system intended to be a substitute for email. This helps whistleblowers and political opposition in oppressive nations to spread their information. A third reason -- and one of increasing importance -- is to build and participate in counter economics, which includes development of viable alternatives to banking systems, and development of alternative financial systems which provide the user with options for greater privacy or anonymity. Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and services like Silk Road and Black Market Reloaded made it possible to trade goods and services with little interference from the law. There is a distinction between centralized and decentralized tools that are utilized for this purpose. The Silk Road and Black Market Reloaded are examples of centralized, and thus vulnerable, marketplaces, or tools. Similarly, web wallets employed by Bitcoin users are also centralized and vulnerable. Decentralized and distributed marketplaces and currency exchanges present significantly less risk to the user. One example of a decentralized and distributed marketplace is OpenBazaar. An example of a decentralized and distributed currency exchange is BitSquare. The technical challenge in developing and maintaining these cryptographic systems is tremendous, which causes some programmers to be interested in joining such projects. Crypto-anarchists argue that without encryption abilities, messages, personal information, and private life would be seriously damaged. They argue that a ban on cryptography is equal to the eradication of secrecy of correspondence. They argue that only a draconian police-state would criminalize cryptography. It is already illegal to use it in some countries, and export laws are restrictive in others. Citizens in the United Kingdom must, upon request, give keys for decryption of personal systems to authorities. Failing to do this can result in imprisonment for up to two years, without evidence of other criminal activity. ....
