Factors Affecting Choice of Distribution Channels

03:16
While selecting a distribution channel, which factors does the manufacturer considers to be of more significance. While choosing a distribution channel, the manufacturer usually evaluates it from the following factors perspective. - Unit value of the product: Expensive products like diamond ornaments or industrial equipment use a small distribution channel. Less expensive products use long distribution channels. - Customized or Standard size product When the product is customized then the manufacturer should be directly in touch with the customer to ensure that the product is matching the customized requirements of the customer. So a small distribution channel is used. On the other-hand standard products are distributed through long distribution channels. - Perish-ability of the productsPerishable products like food items etc choose shortest distribution channel so as to deliver the product to the customer. On the other-hand if the product is durable then long distribution channel is used. - Technical nature: When the product is technically more complex then the product is directly delivered to the customer so as to give them good insight into the technical intricacies of the product. On the other hand a product which is technically not so complicated is delivered through long distribution channels. Product and Service Management - Actions for Product Life Cycle Stages

09:57
Full course: https://www.udemy.com/4-strategies-for-product-and-service-management/?couponCode=PROMONOW Understanding Product Life Cycle Understanding the product life cycle is an important step in formulating a successful product strategy. Operations management is responsible for the majority of the stages in the life cycle, with marketing handling the remainder. But it's essential that for each stage of the product life cycle, both operations and marketing are aligned and communicate in an effective manner with each other. This relationship is extremely important – it can determine whether a product strategy is successful or not. Stages of the Product Life Cycle The product life cycle has four stages: 1 - introduction. 2 - growth. 3 - maturity, and 4 - decline. Introduction The first stage involves the product being introduced to a new market. Product awareness and development are key aspects of this process. Branding and quality levels are established and issues relating to intellectual property, patents, and trademarks are addressed. At this point in a product's life cycle, its target audience includes innovators and early adopters. It isn't heavily distributed at this stage, as the organization wants to wait until there is significant consumer acceptance of the product. Growth The second stage is the growth stage. The organization tries to build brand preference to retain a loyal customer base. The aim is to increase the product's market share. Quality and price become very important factors at this stage. Additional features may be added to the product to ensure consumer interest is maintained. The promotion of the product is widened and the target audience broadens. The product is more widely distributed in response to increasing demand and customer acceptance. Maturity In the third stage, maturity, it is common for sales to plateau, partly in response to increased competition. The volume of production stabilizes and the product begins to show significant return on investment. Comparative Life-Cycle Assessment: Internal Combustion Engine vs Electric

17:26
Full Title: Comparative Life-Cycle Assessment: Internal Combustion Engine vs Electric Presenters: Gabrielle Massoud Advised by: Steven Frysinger Abstract: The purpose of this research is to determine if it is more economically and environmentally sound to purchase an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle versus an electric-hybrid. In order to determine this, two cars are analyzed in a Comparative Life-cycle Assessment (CLCA): the 2017 BMW 330i, an ICE, vs the electrichybrid 2017 BMW 330e. Both vehicles are the same size, have the same body style, and come equipped with a 4-cylinder engine. Through the CLCA, the materials that go into these cars, but which differentiate them, are analyzed from raw materials, the products they become, where they end up once they are no longer operable as a vehicle, and all the components that are involved throughout their life-cycle. Fuel economy, total costs of owning each car, the fuel itself, and other factors are researched to determine which car is the best choice for the environmentally conscious consumer. A major factor in determining which vehicle is best depends on where the consumer lives and how they choose to drive it. There are different incentive programs around the world that give tax breaks and other perks to those who opt to invest in an electric hybrid, and these incentives and breaks make up for the extra costs that go along with purchasing and maintaining an electric vehicle. The electric-hybrid, 330e appears to have the best package and capabilities.

Transcipt: Now let us see how a Project Lifecycle is different from product life cycle. As mentioned earlier, each product lifecycle consists of series of projects to plan, develop, launch, enhance and maintain the product. A Project Life Cycle is a logical sequence of activities to accomplish the objectives of the project. Regardless of complexity of the project, all projects go through a series of activities from inception to closure. The starting stage of a project is the initiation phase, in which critical success factors or core objectives for the project are defined. The key deliverable from this phase is the project charter which authorizes the project start and defines the objectives, high level budgets and sponsor commitments for the project. In the Planning phase the approach to the project is determined and project is divided into smaller tasks with interim deliverables. The project manager plans for all support requirements, identifies risks and defines roles and responsibilities for the project. This phase also includes determining milestones for each of these deliverables. The next phase is the Execution phase, in which the project plan is executed. This is the phase where the actual project execution happens and the project deliverables are created and implemented. The last stage is closing phase that marks the completion of the project. In this phase, the project is formally closed or handed over to the next team in line for taking over. For example, once a product is developed and launched, it will be handed over to the production support team who will maintain and enhance the product in the long run.
