White Otter Castle and the story of James McOuat

04:04
I need to mention a few things that don't appear in the video. Firstly, you will see a variety of spellings of Jimmy's last name. As an example the topographic map shows that the castle is on 'McQuat Bay' while the official historical marker at the site uses 'McOuat'. As I have been reading through a number of different sources it seems that 'McOuat' is the proper spelling but that 'McQuat' is the most common pronunciation. My apologies for saying 'McOuat'. Secondly I should point out that the castle has undergone extensive repairs. There is a group known as 'The Friends of White Otter Castle' who raise funds and maintain the structure. The castle is in a relatively remote area and maintaining the structure is no small feat! Thirdly, there are many different versions of the 'turnip throwing' story. In some versions it is a corn cob. In others it wasn't Jimmy who threw it but rather his school chum but Jimmy got the blame anyway. In some versions the object hits an older man and in others it is one of his classmates. As with all good old stories the details change through time. I think the turnip version is funnier and so I went with that. In any case the motivation for building the castle is the same. James Alexander McOuat did not want to end his life living in a shack. Any opinions expressed in this video are mine and mine alone and are not related to my employer or any other organization or individual. I have not been paid to make this video or to endorse a product. If I am ever paid for an endorsement or provided other compensation I will state it clearly in the video. Any advice or demonstration I provide is just advice. The viewer should take responsibility for their own actions, follow any manufacturers warnings and directions an act safely and responsibly when travelling in the backcountry.

The 13th annual edition of the show, which celebrates the LGBTQ community through gender-reversed renditions of beloved showtunes, raised an incredible $680,273 to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City. The show was produced by Broadway Cares. The evening included performances by Tituss Burgess, Len Cariou, Bryan Terrell Clark, Noah Galvin, Gaelen Gilliland, John Glover, Julie Halston, Shawna Hamic, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Telly Leung, Andrea Martin, Andrea McArdle, Michael McElroy, Joey McIntyre, Hayley Mills, Alex Newell, Eric Petersen, Ethan Slater, Q. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS awards grants to more than 450 social service agencies in all 50 states helping those living with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses. It’s also the largest single financial supporter of the social service programs of The Actors Fund, helping everyone in entertainment and the performing arts. Broadway Cares hosts two six-week-long fundraising campaigns across the country every year, one leading up to the Easter Bonnet Competition in April and the other leading up to the Gypsy of the Year competition in December. Theater Talk: Hope, the Man Who Invented Modern Comedy

26:46
Our guests are talk show great, Dick Cavett and critic Richard Zoglin of “Time” Magazine, discussing Bob Hope, the subject of Zoglin’s fascinating new biography, “Hope.” Beginning as a child, performing on the streets to get extra money for his family, Hope went on to become a major star in vaudeville, on Broadway, in the movies and on TV. He basically invented the stand-up comedy form and lived to be 100 never really retiring from pursuing his singularly successful and lucrative, show business career. Hope was also friendly with Cavett, who tells us about some of their time together. Taped: 11-14-14 Theater Talk is a series devoted to the world of the stage. It began on New York television in 1993 and is co-hosted by Michael Riedel (Broadway columnist for the New York Post) and series producer Susan Haskins. The program is one of the few independent productions on PBS and now airs weekly on Thirteen/WNET in New York and WGBH in Boston. Now, CUNY TV offers New York City viewers additional opportunities to catch each week's show. (Of course, Theater Talk is no stranger to CUNY TV, since the show is taped here each week before its first airing on Thirteen/WNET.) The series is produced by Theater Talk Productions, a not-for-profit corporation and is funded by contributions from private foundations and individuals, as well as The New York State Council on the Arts. Environmental Politics and Law (EVST 255) To illustrate the linkages among national security, secrecy, and environmental quality, Professor Wargo describes the Atomic Energy Commission's nuclear tests in the 1950s. The Atomic Energy Commission collected data on the spread of radionuclides from the nuclear tests, and discovered that the radionuclides were circulating around the world. This process of discovery raised issues regarding ways to manage risks to the population while both continuing the nuclear tests and keeping them secret for national security reasons. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Class Warfare: Economic Interests, Money, and Tax Codes

28:44
Class conflict, frequently referred to as class warfare or class struggle, is the tension or antagonism which exists in society due to competing socioeconomic interests between people of different classes. Class conflict can take many different forms: direct violence, such as wars fought for resources and cheap labor; indirect violence, such as deaths from poverty, starvation, illness or unsafe working conditions; coercion, such as the threat of losing a job or pulling an important investment; or ideology, either intentionally (as with books and articles promoting capitalism) or unintentionally (as with the promotion of consumerism through advertising). Additionally, political forms of class conflict exist; legally or illegally lobbying or bribing government leaders for passage of partisan desirable legislation including labor laws, tax codes, consumer laws, acts of congress or other sanction, injunction or tariff. The conflict can be open, as with a lockout aimed at destroying a labor union, or hidden, as with an informal slowdown in production protesting low wages or unfair labor practices. In the past the term Class conflict was a term used mostly by socialists, who define a class by its relationship to the means of production — such as factories, land and machinery. From this point of view, the social control of production and labor is a contest between classes, and the division of these resources necessarily involves conflict and inflicts harm. (Marx, 1848) However, in more contemporary times this term is striking chords and finding new definition amongst capitalistic societies in the United States and other Westernized countries. Marxists argue that class conflict plays a pivotal role in the history of class-based hierarchical systems such as capitalism and feudalism. Marxists refer to its overt manifestations as class war, a struggle whose resolution in favor of the working class is viewed by them as inevitable under plutocratic capitalism. Societies wherein, more often than not, the rich rule. Where societies are socially divided based on status, wealth, or control of social production and distribution, conflict arises. This conflict is both everyday, such as the common medieval insistence on the right of lords to control access to grain mills and baking ovens, or it can be exceptional such as the Roman Conflict of the Orders, the uprising of Spartacus, or the various popular uprisings in late medieval Europe. One of the earliest analysis of these conflicts is Friedrich Engels' German Peasants War. One of the earliest analyses of the development of class as the development of conflicts between emergent classes is available in Peter Kropotkin's Mutual Aid. In this work, Kropotkin analyzes the disposal of goods after death in pre-class societies, and how inheritance produces early class divisions and conflict. Predicated on the proposed tax legislation aimed at the wealthy in the USA, conservative news hosts and talk-show commentators are bringing pejorative application to the term "class warfare". Perhaps an ad hominem attack on the man who reintroduced the term to main-stream America, Warren Buffett, the term in its classic sense, is now being used to describe President Obama's efforts to create the Buffett Rule. The rule would set a minimum effective tax rate of 30% for those individuals making over $1 million USD annually. FOX News Business Network anchor and investor Eric Bolling, Fox News commentator Steve Moore, political and legal analyst for Fox News Channel Andrew Napolitano, and former speech writer for President George W. Bush, Marc Thiessen have all used the words "class warfare" to describe the tax initiative. In response fellow billionaire and friend to Warren Buffett, George Soros addresses the pejorative use of the term by the conservative-right by stating, "Speaking as a person who would be most hurt by this, I think my fellow hedge fund managers call this class warfare because they don't like to pay more taxes."

Follow me on Instagram: @emilie_que WithLove, E xxx LYRICS: Got a boy back home in Michigan And it tastes like Jack when I'm kissing him So I told him that I never really liked his friends Now he's gone and he's calling me a bitch again There's a guy that lives in a garden state And he told me that we make it 'til we graduate So I told him the music would be worth the wait But he wants me in the kitchen with a dinner plate I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe That we're meant to be But jealousy, jealousy, jealousy, jealousy Get the best of me Look, I don't mean to frustrate, but I Always make the same mistakes, yeah I Always make the same mistakes 'cause I'm bad at love (ooh-ooh) But you can't blame me for tryin' You know I'd be lyin' sayin' You were the one (ooh-ooh) That could finally fix me Lookin' at my history I'm bad at love Got a boy with California eyes And I thought that he could really be the one this time But I never got the chance to make him mine Because he fell in love with little thin white lines London boy with an attitude We never told no one but we look so cute Both got way better things to do But I always think about it when I'm riding through I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe That I'm in too deep And jealousy, jealousy, jealousy, jealousy Get the best in me Look, I don't mean to frustrate, but I Always make the same mistakes, yeah I Always make the same mistakes 'cause I'm bad at love (ooh-ooh) But you can't blame me for tryin' You know I'd be lyin' sayin' You were the one (ooh-ooh) That could finally fix me Lookin' at my history I'm bad at love (ooh-ooh) Oh, you know, you know, you know (ooh-ooh) I'm bad at love (ooh-ooh) I'm bad at love (ooh-ooh) I know that you're afraid I'm gonna walk away Each time the feeling fades Each time the feeling fades I know that you're afraid I'm gonna walk away Each time the feeling fades You know I'm bad at love (ooh-ooh) But you can't blame me for tryin' You know I'd be lyin' sayin' You were the one (ooh-ooh) That could finally fix me Lookin' at my history I'm bad at love (ooh-ooh) Oh, you know, you know, you know (ooh-ooh) I'm bad at love (ooh-ooh) Oh, oh
