Visit To Calico Ghost Town: Popular Authentic Restored Silver Mining Town

16:41
http://www.hollywoodhaunter.com/ This is a real abandoned mining ghost town fixed up by Walter Knott. Join us for a fun birthday shenanigans at the Knott's Berry Farm sponsored Calico Old Mining Ghost Town in Yermo California located 13 miles east of Barstow in the Mojave Desert in the Calico Mountains. This popular tourist attraction that is a multi colored rocky mountain area produced one of the richest silver strikes in California history back in the 1800s. Back then the population rose to 1,200 people. After three hours of plundering the towns many saloons we paid a quick visit to the Rainbow Basin a natural area that has multi-colored rock formations. I wanted to spend the day doing something different with the birthday girl so I surprised her with this low key relaxing trip out to the desert. We even picked up a few inspirations for our Halloween home haunt decorated yard this year which happens to be an old abandoned western ghost town. We comment along the way as we explore and travel through the town and make prop, haunter, and Halloween references. You will see us explore old buildings, shops, abandoned silver mine called Maggie Shaft, Glory Holes, gold panning, see antique tools and equipment, mystery shacks that make us wheezy and gun slinging fights in the streets. The trip gave us several ideas for building all our Halloween ghost town facades. We didn't stay for the stunning Mojave sunset. Thanks for watching and joining us on this little adventure. P&H Mining Equipment Mobile Mining Crusher 4170C

00:34
Large-scale surface mining operations traditionally rely upon high-capacity shovels and haul trucks to move large volumes of overburden and ore-bearing material. However, as costs for diesel fuel and tires, truck maintenance and haulage road maintenance rise, some mines will soon add In-Pit Crusher-Conveyor (IPCC) systems to their material handling operations to help contain production costs. P&H has developed a powerful, high-throughput Mobile Mining Crusher (MMC) that will be fed by a nearby P&H mining shovel as part of the new IPCCs on the horizon. Haul trucks will continue to play a major role in surface mines, alongside growing numbers of IPCCs.

Remote Gold - Off the Trail & on the Gold!

25:31
Getting out further than your average joe gold prospector can have immense rewards. The deeper you push into a remote area the more likely you are to find untouched crevices and gravel bars. Even if someone else has done the same thing before you (like in this video) with less sets of hands and eyes available to work an area it creates an opportunity for places to get left alone unlike in the popular campsites. In this video I talk about the basics of going light and going further. Tallapoosa Mining District, Nevada with Chip Hoehler

03:21
You will find this district by taking Ruby Ave. off of HIghway 50 in Silver Springs Nevada. The road starts out paved, but quickly becomes graded. Once you begin to climb in elevation I would recommend a 4wd vehicle--as the road quickly deteriorates, or walk the final two miles. From the highway to the mines is about 7 miles. The road does continue past, eventually connecting with highway 80. The second frame of the video looks back down towards Silver Springs--the origin of the road. There is not too much information about this district, but I would suspect it was discovered in the 1850's (it is located in the Virginia Mountains--the same mountain range Virginia City is in), but not seriously prospected until well into the 20th century--probably in the 1960's or 70's. I don't think this area was particularly productive, and whatever gold/silver deposits were of low grade. You can see where some quartz veins have been uncovered and sampled (as pictured), but mostly top soil was removed with heavy equipment and processed elsewhere. Virtually all of the sampling areas were uncovered with bulldozers. Only the remains of one building are left--which is on a hill overlooking most of the district. The music: Chip Hoehler and his Big Band with "Sing."

Last Chance Part 6 "Touring 150 Years Of History"

03:41
This location is the Pacific Slab Mine which also was part of the town of Last Chance. Notice the aqueduct towards the back of this camp at one time which was used in hydraulic mining which was banned from North America. There is a very dismal feeling as I walk around town I feel as if I am watched here and there is so much to explore its almost overwhelming. This town discovery would occur in 1850 and some residents remained here till about 1982. Today everything is abandoned as nature consumes many of the sites. You are looking at over a century of true mining history when prospectors lived harsh life's in order to strike it rich!

The Australian Gold Rush

06:29
This is an educational video for Stage 3 students studying HSIE in NSW schools under the old HSIE BOS NSW Syllabus. This content is still relevant to the national curriculum, under the History K-10 Syllabus. This video introduces events that had a significant impact on shaping Australia and its colonies. Students develop an understanding regarding the evolution of the colonies and early migration to Australia in the 19th century (See ACHHK095 & ACHHK096). The purpose of this video was to be used in conjunction with an IGASAR (a process model for inquiry) learning sequence as part of a university assessment for unit EDSS223 at the University of New England (UNE), Armidale NSW.

GUITTARD CHOCOLATE COMPANY - UNWRAPPED CHOCOHOLIC

04:34
In the 1850's, Etienne Guittard embarked on an arduous journey from France to America. It was during the California Gold Rush, and in just a few short years, while still in his twenties, this adventuresome Frenchman struck gold on the rough and tumble streets of early San Francisco. An experienced chocolate maker, Etienne had brought delicious French chocolate to trade for mining supplies, but soon discovered that wealthy miners were willing to pay premium prices for this elegant treat. Etienne sailed back to Tournus, France, where he worked in his uncle's chocolate factory until he could afford to buy his own chocolate making equipment. In 1868, he returned to San Francisco and opened Guittard Chocolate on Sansome Street. In no time, San Francisco became one of the great chocolate manufacturing centers in America, where ships from exotic regions of the world brought their cacao beans to market. Of the original family-owned companies that brought commerce and culture to the dusty, often lawless streets of early San Francisco, Guittard Chocolate Company is the only one that remains family-owned.

History of Guyana

01:09:01
The recorded history of Guyana can be dated back to 1499, when Alonso de Ojeda`s first expedition arrived from Spain at the Essequibo river. The history of Guyana has been shaped by the participation of many national and ethnic groups, as well as the colonial policies of the Spanish, French, Dutch and British. The slave rebellions in 1763 and 1823 were seminal moments in the nation's history. Blacks came to Guyana as slaves; on the other hand, East Indians came as indentured labourers who worked in order to provide for their families back home. Guyana's recent history is characterized in particular by the struggle to free itself from colonial rule, and from the lingering effects of colonialism. This video is targeted to blind users. [4K] Big Thunder Mountain Railroad | Magic Kingdom

05:33
The best of Orlando - https://www.portalorlando.com/ Race through a haunted gold-mining town aboard a rollicking runaway mine train. The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness Dash in and out of desert caverns and rumble through a haunted mine aboard a speeding train. Amid rugged bedrock and desert cactus, venture inside a nearly 200-foot mountain to the Big Thunder Mining Company, established in the early days of America’s Gold Rush. Traipse down into an abandoned mine shaft and discover a mysterious 5-car locomotive waiting to take you on a journey inside an abandoned shaft. Hang Onto Your Hats! As you begin your journey into the darkness of the tunnel, the train’s wheels chug back and forth across a rickety track. Swoop around turns and dip and drop into canyons and caves, darting through the ghost town of Tumbleweed. Peel under a booming waterfall, past rock formations, and dodge a rumbling boulder from an inexplicable landslide. Along your adventure, glimpse the remnants of a flash flood and behold a bevy of local critters—including bats, opossum and a goat—before hastily making your way back to the safety of the railroad station. The Big Thunder Mountain Legend Legend has it that a supernatural force dwells within the mountain. When gold was first discovered in the 1850s, a mining company was established. But soon, eerie things began to occur. Miners heard ghostly sounds, cave-ins became frequent and equipment mysteriously failed. Trains would take off and race through the mine and around the mountain driverless! Word got out that the mine was haunted and Big Thunder became another ghost town. Years later, when eyewitness accounts had faded into folklore, new prospectors resurrected the Mining Company and began blasting into the spooky mountain once again. But as the new settlers became aware, some legends turn out to be true. A Train Ride for the Entire Family Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a speedy rollercoaster-type attraction designed with your entire family in mind. However, some parts of this attraction are bumpy and, in some instances, take place in the dark.

The Ghost Town Wild West Museum in Colorado Springs, CO is a throwback in time and a fun way to learn about history and this Wild Era! (This Footage is a Small Part of the Bigger Video - To watch, visit http://www.YouTube.com/AboutColoradoTV) Turn Your Watch Back 100 Years! As a true preservation of Colorado's western past, Ghost Town Museum is a fun and historic look back at kind of old west town that used to dot this region during the late1800's and early 1900's "An Authentic Ghost Town" Selected by Mobile Travel Guide and Family Circle Magazine as one of the fifty-five special attraction of America. See the USA Travel Edition Recognition of Merit. Explore the boardwalk connecting the Blacksmith's shop, Saloon, General and Merchants of main street, with the Livery Stable, and Victorian Home. Each is filled with thousands of fascinating artifacts. Ghost Town Museum delights young and old with lots of hands on activities, including old time arcades, panning for real gold (summer months), and much, much, more. - See More at http://www.YouTube.com/AboutColoradoTV Ghost Town History Ghost Town Museum was created in 1954 to preserve a piece of Colorado's Wild West heritage. In 1858 the cry "Pikes Peak or Bust" opened up the heartland of the Colorado territory to the gold prospector. Gold mining became a significant factor that led to the statehood of Colorado. The miners and the people who provided services to them quickly populated the western frontier of the United States. They needed transportation, and before long the twin steel ribbons of the railroads were pushing into the mountains to transport ore for processing. Towns sprang up overnight and by the 1860's and 1870's people had blanketed the west. It was a rough and tumble time. Small encampments became small towns. Small cities along the rocky mountain Front Range provided a central location for supplies and services. The search for gold drove prospectors to every mountain valley, and every mountain peak. If gold or silver were not located, or if the mines played out, the towns were often abandoned to become ghost towns. Little by little the raw spirit of the frontier died down. By the time gold was discovered in Cripple Creek in 1891, the "frontier" was almost gone. Today almost nothing remains of those exciting days of the old west. A scattered pile of old lumber, a tumbled pile of rocks marking an old mine, an occasional wagon wheel or a piece of equipment. The rip roaring camps of 100 years ago have become ghost towns now only a memory of a bygone era.

The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness Race along the railroad tracks in a runaway mine car—and watch for new surprises along the way! May 2013 (Rick vid) Creede, Colorado

01:31
We are alittle over a mile North of Creede on a dirt road that is taking us to an old mine and mill. I think this was an old gold mine back in the day, but i am not sure on that. Pretty neat with lots of history here. The dirt road was ok until the end where we had to climb a pretty steep hill. That really wasnt too much fun. You can see me at the end tippy-toeing to get turned around.

Gold Rush Play (4th Grade)

10:42
In ASL with English subtitles, no audio. See transcript below. Act 1 Narrator 1: Our story starts at Sutter’s Mill in a city called Coloma in Northern California. Narrator 2: James Marshall was helping to build a sawmill for John Sutter. Narrator 3: On January 24th, 1848, James saw something shining in the water. James Marshall: I found something. Maybe it is gold. I might be rich! John Sutter: What is that? James Marshal: Look, look, look! Gold! John Sutter: Looks like gold, you are right. But maybe it is fake? James Marshall: How can we check? John Sutter: Let’s look in my encyclopedia. Narrator 2: They tried a few tests to see if it was REALLY gold. John Sutter: Where exactly did you find this? James Marshall: In the river near the mill. I bet there is gold all over that river. John Sutter: Maybe. James Marshal: WOW! I am going back right now. John Sutter: It is midnight! James Marshall: That doesn’t matter. John Sutter: Just wait for tomorrow morning. James Marshall: No! I’m going NOW! John Sutter: We should keep this a secret. James Marshall: The other workers already know. John Sutter: Let’s go talk with them. Act 2: Man 1: Did you hear about the gold? Man 2: Who found it? Man 3: James Marshall found it in the river. Man 1: is it real? Man2: I don’t know. Man 3: We should go looking now. Man 1: if it is real, we could be RICH! Man 2: I could quit work and live near the beach! Man 3: I could ride horses all day. Man 1: Wait, here comes the Boss. John Sutter: Did you hear about the gold? Man 1,2,3: Yes! Is it real? James Marshall: It is real Man 1,2,3: Let’s go looking now! John Sutter: WAIT! Rules! You still have to work here every day. When you are off of work, then you can go looking for gold. Got it?! Man 1,2,3: (sad) Yes. Act 3 Narrator 1: Gold was not a secret for long. Narrator 2: On March 15th, 1848 a San Francisco newspaper had a story. Narrator 3: Most people overlooked the article. The rush became bigger when Sam Brannan got involved. Narrator 3: Sam Brannan had a store near Sutter’s Mill. Charles Smith: Sam, many people are coming to buy things here. Sam: Yes, I noticed. Charles Smith: I thought looking for gold was nothing, maybe it is important. Sam Brannan: Maybe you are right. Before, Mexicans found gold in California but it was gone fast. Charles Smith: People keep finding more. Maybe we should start looking. Sam Brannan: What for? Why go do all of that work when they bring it to us to buy things anyway. If more people come to look for gold, more people will buy equipment from us. Charles Smith: Good Idea! Sam Brannan: Maybe we should gather all tents, pans and supplies and convince more people to come look for gold. Charles Smith: How will you convince people? Narrator 1: May 12, 1848, Sam Brannan walked through SF showing gold. Narrator 2: He shouted that gold was found. Narrator 3: people all looked at California, EXCITED! ACT 4 Narrator 1: News of the gold rush continued to spread. Narrator 2: People weren’t sure if the rumors were true. Narrator 3: in December 1848, president POLK made a speech announcing the gold rush. CROWD: Cheering. President Polk: Ladies and Gentlemen, it is true. On January 24th 1848, Gold was found in California. “The explorations already found, we believe, yes piles and piles and piles of gold in many places in an large area of country.” Crowd: HANDS WAVING! Crowd: GOLD! Crowd: LET’S GO! Narrator 1: THAT is when the gold rush started Act 5 Narrator 1: Many people quit their lives and moved to California. Narrator 2: DROOLING, they looked for gold. Narrator 3: Coloma changed from a small mill camp to become a busy mining town. Narrator 2: The town was struck with gold fever! Girl 1: Gold fever, that’s why I am here. Girl 2: Me, too. How did you get here? Girl 1: Well, my husband and I took the long route around the tip of South America. Girl 2: You mean Cape Horn? Girl 1: Yes. Girl 2: Wow, that must have taken months. Girl 1: Yes. It was forever. But it was cheap compared to the route through Panama. Girl 2: Do you mean the strip of land between North and South America? Girl 1: Right! Girl 2: My cousin went that way and wow…he got sick. Girl 1: He is lucky he survived. Girl 2: Yes, lucky. I’m happy the land routes are better. I prefer a bumpy wagon ride over a rocky ship on the ocean. Man 4: Why did you come from China? Lu Ng: My farms failed. Floods ruined my fields. “Do do do?” Man 4: You wanted to see if Gold Mountain was “Tru-biz”? Lu Ng: Yes, many Chinese people came to California for a new life. Narrator 1: The end result, California’s population grew a lot. Narrator 2: After the gold rush, California became an official part of the USA. Narrator 3: Right! In 1850, California became the 31st state. Teachers: Nicolette Obidos, Megan Rivadeneyra, Melanie Bradshaw.
