The charismatic Father Marco Arana, named a Hero of the Environment in 2009 by TIME Magazine, has been so effective in advocating against the US-owned Yanacocha mine that he’s code-named “the Devil” and targeted in a campaign of harassment and terror. When one colleague is threatened, the activists fight back, capture a spy, and uncover a military-scale operation of surveillance and violence that shocks even them. When billions of dollars are at stake, just how far are corporations willing to go to protect their bottom line? A gripping David and Goliath tale of corporate espionage unfolds in this exposé of intimidation of Peruvian eco-activists and indigenous farmers. Shocking video footage, photos, and meticulous reports compiled by private security firms working for gold mines are uncovered by the filmmakers to reveal the truth in this real-life political thriller. Closed Sea reveals the untold story of the endangered migrants who attempted to escape Libya to Italy during the 2011 war, only to be returned to the hands of Gaddafi as a result of a prior agreement signed between Berlusconi and Gaddafi. During a perilous journey by boat from Libya to Italy, our protagonists become adrift, facing near certain disaster on the waves. A sighting, and subsequent rescue, by the Italian Navy cause scenes of unbridled joy and celebration – all captured by the stranded refuges on camera-phone. Their joy though was to be short lived as it soon became clear that their rescuers had other plans. Closed Sea meets the refugees who were forced back into the hands of the dictator, and witnesses the abuses faced by those who dared to attempt an escape. Families are divided and in limbo as Gaddafi’s regime crumbles and the revolution gains pace, though it is the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg that truly determine the final fate of our protagonists. From their battered vessels and failed rescue to their subsequent imprisonment, tenure at a refugee camp and onward to the distant European Court of Human Rights. Closed Sea captures the dramatic stories of those whose lives were torn apart and forgotten, not just by Gaddafi, but his allies in Europe who claim to stand for freedom and human dignity. Remember in the old movies when you did something bad you were threatened with being sent to the Siberian salt mines? How times have changed. A mysterious bunch of couples from Siberia came to the Gold Coast a few years back for a so called holiday and opened up dozens of bank accounts. 30 million dollars in overseas deposits later and wild spending sprees drew the attention the law enforcement here concentrating on Money Laundering. Mmmmm so where did the cash come from, as most had modest incomes according to their applications. I would be guessing DRUGS. I really hope the application to confiscate the money on proceeds of crime is SUCCESSFUL.

This report investigates what is being named the biggest disaster in Brazil's mining history. A horror mudslide swept through the towns and villages in the Gualaxo River Valley, destroying homes, businesses and taking the lives of 19 people. A tailings dam, holding back more than 50 million cubic metres of mining waste collapsed, unleashing a wave of mud several metres high. "The mud dragged me down, I would come up, it would take me down again... I screamed but nobody answered", remembers Priscila Barros, who was pulled four kilometers under the deadly slurry. The mud, containing lead, arsenic and other toxic chemicals, continued down river all the way to the Atlantic coast 600km away. "This mud wave has killed anything that was alive in these water systems", explains Marilene Ramos of the Brazilian Environment Authority. Now Brazilian police are seeking the arrest of 12 of Samarco's executives for negligent homicide and crimes against the environment. "A dam doesn't break by chance. There is repeated, continual negligence in the actions of a company owned by Vale and BHP", says prosecutor Carlos Eduardo Pinto. For 150 years, mining has changed our lives in extraordinary ways. It sparked waves of mass immigration, toppled prime ministers and dispossessed Indigenous Australians. It has saved Australia from financial ruin and generated incredible wealth. Mining's past is a battleground that has divided, and yet forged the nation. Hundreds of blood samples collected from villagers in central Thailand’s Thap Khlo District show that up to 6,000 villagers have elevated amounts of manganese and arsenic in their bodies. While the Thai government remains uncertain about the source of the poisoning, villagers blame an Australian-owned gold mine in their district. Villagers in Thap Khlo first complained about the mine’s possible environmental and health hazards last June when they sent a letter to Thailand’s National Council for Peace and Order, asking the regime to address their concerns about the mine. In response, the Thai government sent city officials to conduct health tests on the villagers last November. Test results released in December indicate that many of the villagers have manganese and arsenic poisoning. Moreover, a separate research conducted by Thailand’s Rangsit University show that soil, water and vegetation as far as four kilometers away from the mine have unnaturally high levels of manganese, arsenic and cadmium. Arsenic and manganese are both found naturally in rocks. The metals are released from rocks during the mining and smelting process as ores are heated to release other minerals from it. Surface runoff can spread the metals, contaminating a larger stretch of land beyond the mine. The metals may flow into nearby waterways or are absorbed by plants, providing for ample ways in which humans can ultimately ingest the metals. Arsenic and manganese can have serious health consequences once ingested. Arsenic can cause skin hyperpigmentation, serious gastrointestinal problems as well as cancer in the skin, liver and lungs. Arsenic can also impair blood circulation in the body by causing small blood vessels to become more permeable and thereby decreasing blood pressure drastically. High levels of manganese can cause symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease such as body rigidness and slurred speech. The Thap Khlo gold mine is part of the Chatree Mining Complex, a collection of mines owned by a subsidiary of Sydney-based Kingsgate Consolidated Ltd. Chatree Mining considers its safety and environmental regulations up to international standards, so Kingsgate Consolidated remains defiant against accusations. Kingsgate Executive Chairman Ross Smyth-Kirk released a statement supporting current mining regulations, saying that the mine’s employees were tested for metal poisoning last June and that the employees showed no signs of poisoning. Since the results were released, the Thai government has suspended operations at Chatree Mining’s Thap Khlo gold mine for 30 days while more tests and inquiries are conducted. If Chatree Mining is unable to prove that they are not the source of the contamination, the suspension will be extended. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Welcome to the world of high-powered bank robberies. But what pushes someone to risk everything to rob a bank? In this probing and character-led documentary, several convicted robbers candidly discuss their crimes. Why is bank robbing so addictive? We also hear from those at the other side of the gun, left traumatised and scarred. Made for ABC Australias renowned Four Corners Strand, this is a disturbing insight into the human cost of bank robberies. I didnt have to say a word, just walked in there with a shotgun. People didnt assume I was looking for a home loan, boasts convicted bank robber Anthony. Its like your own little Wild West and youre running the joint, The thrill of power, along with the promise of lots of cash, has proven irresistible time and again for bank robbers. However, for the victims of their crimes, the trauma refuses to go away. Pam is one such victim. She was a senior bank employee whose life and career were turned upside down after she was brutally attacked in a robbery. One of them had a gun, one had iron bars, one had a hunting knife. So it wasnt the type of thing you could really argue with, she murmurs. When Pam delayed handing over the keys to the safe, she was physically assaulted. He hit me from behind and pushed me into a metal door, she recalls. She was left with a slipped disc and still suffers from back spasms today. Pams distress was further compounded by the callous attitude of her employers. On returning to work, she was told she would be demoted, despite 25 years of loyal service. I was basically asked to sign documentation to reduce my position from a managerial status to a clerk, she explains. Unsettlingly, her case seems typical. Far from helping traumatised workers like Pam, banks often demote or dismiss them. However, victims can at least expect sympathy from one unlikely source. Anthony, a born-again Christian, once committed 4 armed robberies in 16 days. He was arrested when his mother recognised him on the local news and turned him in. Now only the dense web of tattoos along his limbs points to his murky past. He is contrite and ashamed, adamant that he will repay his victims, even if, as he calculates, it will take him until he is 93. I fully understand everyone in those banks hating me, he admits. Unfortunately, most robbers are not as repentant. Some are startlingly flippant about the emotional damage they have caused. Theyll tell you anything that they cant go to a counter any more because theyve got some sort of phobia that theyve created thats absolute bullshit. All theyre trying to do is jump on the gravy train, an anonymous robber remarks. His words jar nastily with Pams palpable distress. Worryingly, bank robberies seem to be becoming more violent and unpredictable. Fuelled by a cocktail of drugs and adrenaline, the robbers are oblivious to their victims pleas. Youre in the car, you have a shot. Throw the needle on the floor, go in, produce your gun. Mate thats the biggest adrenaline buzz ever. Its better than bungee jumping, enthuses an anonymous robber. And until the banks can fork out to provide better security, their own employees will continue to pay the price. Papua Asia New Guinea is one of the world’s last lands of adventure. In a country that still lives in isolation from the rest of the world, roads are practically non-existent. Officially, there are only 700 kilometres of paved roads. The capital itself, Port Moresby, is cut off from the rest of the territory and is not served by any road system. It is accessible only by plane. This explains the importance of the Highland Highway: this road is one of the few in the country. It’s the biggest and, most importantly, the only one that provides a link between the towns and villages of the mountains with the coast. For the inhabitants of the highlands it is also the only supply route. However, this road is extremely difficult. It runs through the wildest and most dangerous regions in the country. It very soon gives way to increasingly deep potholes and a road surface that is either breaking up or has completely subsided. Landslips, mud slides, accidents… there are many dangers on the Highway. Truck drivers are also often targeted by armed gangs who hold travelers for ransom. Kevin has been making this trip for ten years. At the wheel of his imposing American truck he makes three trips a week to supply the town of Kundiawa. His boss? A French ex-pat, who’s been in Papua Asia for more than 20 years. This adventurer has made a new life in the heart of the mountains of Papua Asia. He owns several trucks and most of the shops in town. He has become a respected person in the highlands. They even call him “the lord”! And what lies under the ground in Papua Asia has whetted the appetites of major international mining companies. There’s an abundance of gold, gas and oil here, but most exploitations are in the deepest part of the tropical jungle. They have an enormous need for equipment. A number of experienced drivers regularly risk their lives in these forgotten regions. Such is Billy’s case. His mission: drive two giant plant machines to the Moro oil well. A testing journey deep in a hostile forest. Beyond the Highway: the jungle and the mountains! Most villages can only be reached by plane. Every year pilots lose their lives in the highlands. The weather is unpredictable and the airstrips barely usable. Most of the time they are slippery strips of mud. Antony, a young New Zealander, has been doing this job for a year now. It’s a high-risk occupation, but it’s also his passion. On the rare tracks in the country, the only means of public transport remain some old, beaten-up pick-up trucks. Their drivers pay absolutely no attention to safety standards. With his vehicle laden with passengers and supplies, Paul makes daily trips to the villages on Mount Wilhelm?the highest peak in Papua Asia?from the valley. Here, brakes and suspension get a severe testing! The least error means a certain plunge to the bottom of a ravine… It’s here, on the roof of Papua Asia, that Father Matthew lives. He’s a Papuan priest and he’s a unique character. On this Christmas Day he celebrates a huge mass before setting off on forgotten trails that only he dares to take. His destination? Villages far from anywhere where he must spread the good word.

The story of the Eureka Stockade is a fundamental milestone on Australia’s road to democracy. The people sheltering in the Eureka Stockade did not want to change the system of government; they wanted to be included in it. They were not insurgents. They were not revolutionaries. They rebelled against vicious treatment by police when all peaceful means of protest had failed. They sewed a flag and built a fence. They fought back. Their battle lasted approximately 20 minutes. However, all of us in Australia are the beneficiaries of their fight today. Watch the program here to learn more about their fight and the greatest of liberators, Jesus Christ, and the freedom that He brings to our lives. Subscribe to France 24 now: http://f24.my/youtubeEN FRANCE 24 live news stream: all the latest news 24/7 http://f24.my/YTliveEN In the war-torn Central African Republic, former rebels who mounted a coup in 2013 are now dreaming of independence. FRANCE 24’s reporters James André and Anthony Fouchard went to meet one of the most powerful armed groups in the country, in the capital of their parallel state in the north. Since gaining independence from France in 1960, the Central African Republic has never truly experienced peace. In March 2013, a coalition of rebel groups called the Seleka seized power in country’s fifth coup d'état. Leaders on all sides exploited religious tensions for political ends and the country descended into violence. The Seleka, led by Michel Djotodia, was forced to give up power after nine months, completely unable to restore security. Under UN auspices, France deployed more than 2,000 soldiers to restore a fragile peace and avoid what it called a “genocide". But President Faustin-Archange Touadéra, who was elected in March 2016, has still not managed to bring calm to a country devastated by civil war. On the contrary: violence actually resumed in the capital Bangui in April 2018. ►► On France24.com: Central African Republic's president Touadéra slams 'enemies of the peace' Since being routed, the rebels have been divided and fragmented, but have maintained their ability to cause trouble. The Popular Front for the Renaissance of the Central African Republic (known by its French acronym FPRC) is one of the most powerful armed groups. Abdoulaye Hissène, the FPRC’s military leader, is based in the northeastern town of Ndélé, but is massing his troops at the gates of Bangui. Towards a partition of the country? Although the prospect of a fresh coup seems unlikely, everyone is wondering about a possible partition of the country. The rebels prefer to talk about federalism and autonomy. Although they control all the main roads, provide security and even levy taxes, they do not want to create the impression of cutting ties with the central government, which does not consider the north a priority. The FPRC now wants to improve its image, severely tarnished after the violence of 2013. The rebels are literally sitting on a gold and diamond mine, the northeast being rich in natural resources. This is attracting Russian private security companies, officially invited by the central government to train army recruits. The climate is tense, but in the meantime, Abdoulaye Hissène knows very well that the weak army cannot dislodge him. "My men are in Bangui, they are just waiting for the political green light," he says. Whether he’s bluffing or not, guns speak louder than words and appear to be the main negotiating method in this region. http://www.france24.com/en/reporters Visit our website: http://www.france24.com Subscribe to our YouTube channel: http://f24.my/youtubeEN Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FRANCE24.English Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/France24_en

There’s a vast stretch of the Amazon the Peruvians call Madre de Dios - Mother of God - but tragically these days, it looks more like something concocted by the devil. Once-pristine jungle has been stripped by illegal miners, leaving a desolate lunar landscape. It’s so lucrative, even drug lords are in on the act, switching from cocaine to gold - which makes this part of the world a very dangerous place indeed. Denham Hitchcock travels deep into the Amazon with Miss Peru to investigate a crime which could have a devastating effect on all of us. Here’s Denham Hitchcock. Australia is blessed with rugged beauty and a wealth of natural resources - including coal, iron, natural gas and gold. Such minerals are powering Australia's economy to record highs. And as demand from China for more resources grows, new mines continue to open across the country. But critics say there is a dark side to this success story. Mining regions attract transient workers keen to make a quick buck, creating social and environmental problems and a rising crime rate. Mines are also draining Australia's pool of skilled labour from other industries and driving up wages. 101 East asks: What is the cost of Australia's mining boom? Here Australian 101 East fixer Sian Gard takes us behind the scenes of the 12-day film shoot with reporter-producer Chan Tau Chou and cameraman Lee Ali. When you travel what is the worst thing that could happen? Some might say missing a flight, others might say you get crammed into the centre seat on a full flight. But when you are part of a film crew, one of the more difficult challenges is travelling with 181 kilogrammes of camera equipment. When an international film crew from Al Jazeera English calls you and says they want to come to Australia and film a story about the mining industry in two weeks time, the first thing you say is "I would love to be a part of this incredible story". The second thing you do? Start working fast. The scope and depth of the mining industry, its impact on the country and the state can be broken down into small digestible chunks as political, economic and social, but the bigger picture is a great deal more complicated. The Australian mining industry has seen exponential growth over the last 10 years with increasing exports to China. Western Australia, considered the economic hub of the country, now holds the nation's purse strings and is host to some of the world's most influential mining and resource sector companies. Perth, considered the second-most isolated city in the world, has seen changes on many fronts that not only includes an increase in resource dollars but a higher cost of living, a politically strong liberal state government and increasing financial disparity between mining and resource sector employees and everyone else. So how does one get all these issues into one story? You make phone calls and lots of them. One-hundred-and-eighty-one kilogrammes of camera equipment and an introductory dinner later, we are off filming in Perth and Karratha. We have 12 days to interview a range of people invested in the mining and resources sector in various ways. Finance experts, counsellors who see the downside of living a Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) lifestyle, business operators who say their home towns are dying due to the mining industry and police who are left to clean up the alcohol and drug fuelled mess from workers blowing off steam. The biggest challenge of a shoot on this scale? Distance, time and getting people to talk on camera. Logistically, organising a film shoot for a crew that is flying from Malaysia to Perth in western Australia and then Karratha in the north-west of western Australia, with budgets and deadlines is exciting, fun and a challenge. Accommodation, hire cars, flights, places to eat, filming permissions and scheduling interviews, your world becomes one mission and one only. Get what the film crew needs so that the story is done. Karratha in the north of the state is a 22-hour drive by car or a two-hour flight on one of two commercial carriers that fly every hour to the isolated desert town. After checking in with 181 kilogrammes of camera equipment or 13 cases of luggage and arriving in Karratha, we unpack and our long days begin. The strain of putting together a half-hour documentary in a foreign country and dealing with tight deadlines can put a great deal of pressure on any crew. People generally get tired, they snap and sometimes when you are confined to a small space for hours on end (i.e. a car that is loaded to the roof with camera equipment) the last thing you want to do is see the people you are working with. But Chan Tau Chou and Lee Ali approached the long stressful days with humour, grace, professionalism and the ability to sleep in the most unusual locations (on top of windy rocky outcrops). Filming in the north-west was a whirlwind of driving long distances, climbing rocky terrain, rising at 4am and falling into bed at midnight with back-to-back interviews in between. I am excited to see the final product of Australia's boomtown curse. I think it is a story that people need to hear about. Trafficking illegal minerals is a crime that is transitional in nature. The illicit trade strains relations between countries and is used for malicious gains. Kenya is no exception and has been accused previously of being a transit point for gold brought in from the Democratic Republic of Congo between 2010 and 2011. Official documents from the Department of Mines and Geology seen by K24 news show that gold exported from Kenya within the said period was from Kenya and companies involved in the export were genuine and licensed.

The animated history of Australia in a nutshell. For centuries, rumors and legends are spreading among the traders, about the Terra Australis Incognita, unknown southern land. For Europeans, this is only a tale. However, in the middle of the sixteenth century, a series of world maps are created, so-called 'the maps from Dieppe,' documenting the latest Portuguese explorations, on which a mysterious land is found, called 'Le Grand Java.' A few centuries later, the map will be considered by some as the evidence of discovering Australia by Portuguese. Soon after, in sixteen-o-five a Dutch trader, Willem Janszoon, sets sails from the Dutch East Indies to search for a new land. According to his plan, he arrives at an unknown destination and names it 'Keer-Weer.' As it turns out, later on, it is Australia, modern-day Cape York. Since that moment, the sea route is frequented by the Dutch ships, which sometimes, sailing too far away are sighting the coast of Terra Australis. The Dutch, bring Terra Australis to the world maps. In sixteen-eighty-eight, William Dampier sets out on a voyage around the New Holland, returns and convinces the Admiralty to support another expedition. In August seventeen-sixty-eight, HMS Bark the Endeavor, under the command of Captain James Cook, sets sails from England. In the year seventeen-seventy arrives at the coast of New Holland and disembarks in several spots, including Botany Bay and Possession Island and gives the land a name - the New South Wales. Cook's expedition spreads the idea to colonize the new land, and with losing the thirteen colonies, the idea grows stronger. During that time, many people in Britain live in poverty and the penalty for theft is high. Choosing between hunger, and thievery, many Brits are choosing the theft and simultaneously overpopulates the local prisons. Officially to reduce the criminal population, and unofficially to make use of the human resources British Government sends out an expedition to create a penal colony and a bridgehead for further British colonization. In seventeen-eighty-eight under the patronage of Lord Sydney, an expedition arrives at Botany Bay under the command of Arthur Philip, carrying seven hundred and thirty convicts and two hundred and fifty free men plus the crew. Discovers a large bay, founds a settlement and names it after the patron of the expedition, Sydney. British push forward, and in eighteen-twenty-seven Edmund Lockyer founds Albany in modern-day Western Australia. Britain claims the entire continent. Along the increase of the free people, resistance grows, people do not want the penal status of the land. Finally, the British Parliament convinced, agrees to stop sending convicts to some of the colonies. Since eighteen-forty sending criminals will be gradually reduced, until the tenth of January eighteen-sixty-eight when the last shipment of convicts will reach the Western Australia. In eighteen-twenty-five the population equals about sixty thousand people, to reach four hundred-fifty thousand in eighteen-fifty-one, to touch, during a gold rush, over a million and fifty thousand people, just ten years later. Locally, Aborigines are oppressed. At the beginning of colonization, Aborigines not knowing the concept of property, do no know what treaties with the Europeans can bring. They are bringing disease and plagues decimating aborigines, and also the conquest of the natives pushed out from their homelands. Until the nineteen-sixty-seven, Aborigines, will not be considered as equal inhabitants and citizens of their native land. On the first of January nineteen-o-one, a dominion of the Commonwealth of Australia is proclaimed, and Sir Edmund Burton becomes the first prime minister of the federation. Along with the outbreak of the First World War, thousands of young people on a distant continent, are at war which they do not understand. Thousands of dead and wounded shock Australian public opinion, and make them realize the difference between the British and Australian interests. The Second World War breaks out. Like two decades earlier, Australia joins war along with Britain. However, the British are being defeated in the far east. Japan quickly takes new territories. Hong Kong falls. Singapore falls. Australia is under threat. The United Kingdom put on the defensive in Europe and cannot provide support. A turning point occurs. ANZAC asks the United States for protection. Along with its victories, the US takes the opportunity to pull Australia and New Zealand under its influence. The war in Europe ends and soon after also on the Pacific, the new world order is brought to life.

Hidden Gems: After suffering the Soviets, the Taliban, and the War on Terror, Afghanistan has had its share of turmoil; but can 1,000 billion dollars worth of emeralds lift Afghanistan out of poverty? He's a Frenchman who first came to Afghanistan to train Afghan security services before venturing into the emerald trade. He sees a huge chance here to exploit a market that could easily increase in value twenty or thirty-fold, but the obstacles are not inconsiderable. Just to get to the mines Raphael has to travel the 150 Kilometres from Kabul to Panjshir, right through Taliban kidnap country. When he gets there he finds an industry in the dark ages, where homemade pyrotechnics are exploded in poorly dug mineshafts, killing many miners and ruining the quality of up to 75% of the stones they dig. "If you see the damage being done to these stones... so much is lost", Yama Torabi from Integrity Watch Afghanistan tells us. The government here remains hopelessly out of touch with the industry that "still (uses) a mining law adopted 100 years ago". But as the country prepares for elections and Europeans like Raphael open up the gem trade here, could this be a beacon of hope for the future? If you plan on taking a holiday to Victoria Australia, one of the most popular tourist spots to visit outside of Melbourne is Ballarat. It does get a bit cooler than Melbourne, so take some warm clothes! One of the biggest festivals in Ballarat is their Winter Festival. Here they decorate laneways with colourful lights and have a pop up ice skating ring just off Sturt Street. One of the biggest events though is the Winter Wonderlights at Sovereign Hill. I’ll show more of this in the video guide to Ballarat. In this video I will show you some of the best things to do in Ballarat for a family, couple or even solo traveller. This is a list of Ballarat’s top tourist attractions 10. Ballarat Wildlife Park The park was opened in 1987 and covers some 37 acres of natural bushland. If you want to see some natural Australian animals, Ballarat Wildlife Park has plenty, from free roaming kangaroos and emus – where you can hand feed these cute Australian animals. Learn about koalas on one of the guided tours. Get a selfie with a wombat. Watch Tasmanian devils getting fed. See giant tortoises, crocodiles and alligators. And of course the meerkats! Check out the reptile enclose for snakes and lizards. A great place to take the whole family in Ballarat. 9. Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka The Eureka Flag is housed on the historic site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade and is surrounded by the scenic Eureka Stockade Memorial Gardens. 8. The Art Gallery of Ballarat. If you’re an art lover, this is the place to visit in Ballart. It holds both temporary and permanent art works. 7. Gold Museum of Ballarat. Gold is what made this town and this museum gives a fascinating insight to Ballarat’s gold rush. If you buy a ticket to Sovereign Hill, you will get the ticket included to the museum. 6. Lake Wendouree. This is a lovely spot to visit in Ballarat – enjoy a stroll around the lake, stop of one of the cafes or just enjoy the lovely gardens of the Botanic Gardens in Ballarat. Highlights to visit are the Prime Ministers Avenue, Adam Lindsay Gordon Cottage, the Australian Ex- Prisoner of War Memorial, the Ballarat Tramway Museum (try to take a tram ride by Lake Wendouree) and the 1956 Olympic Memorial. 5. Ballarat Ghost Tour. With Ballarat having the reputation of being one of Australia’s most haunted cities why night take a ghost tour of Ballarat at night. Eerie Ghost tours operates a weekend ghost tour of Ballarat. Meet under the clock tower at Ballarat Railway Station for a spooky 2 hour walking ghost tour. Visit haunted spots and listen to ghost stories by the guide. A fun way to see Ballarat. 4. Ballarat Heritage Tours. Take one of this walking tours of Ballarat, learn about this history of the city and its famous landmarks. Taken by an experienced guide who is extremely knowledgeable about Ballarat history. 3. Bloody Ballarat Tour. Take this tour of the dark side of Ballarat – true tales of murder and crime that you don’t learn in your history books. A fantastic tour you should do in Ballarat. The tours run at night. 2. Kryal Castle. One of the more popular things to do in Ballarat, especially for the family is Kryal Castle. Built as medieval castle just outside of town. Fun things to see the knights at the Tournament Arena. Here they joust on horseback and even sword fight. Watch the wizard make potions in his workshop. Visit the Torture Museum or get lost in the castle’s maze. There are places to eat and you can even stay overnight at one of their rooms. I will do another video on accommodation at Kryal Castle. Prices are listed on the website. 1/ Sovereign Hill Without a doubt the number one tourist attraction in Ballarat is Sovereign Hill. It has been voted Australia’s best ‘Major Tourist Attraction’ multiple times. A theme park set back as an 1850’s gold mining town. Learn to pan for gold in a replica river. Go underground on some the gold mining tours. Watch people preforming chores dressed in period costumes. See how they make candy the old way. Some other popular attractions at Sovereign Hill include the Red Coat Soldiers musket firing, horse and coach rides, bowling, candle making, getting and old photo taken and other street activities. A great place to take the whole family - a great educational experience for kids to learn about history. During Winter Sovereign Hill has its Winter Wonderlights Festival. This is a specular light show – that for me is a must do in Ballarat. The lights and snow effects make this truly a wonderful show to experience. During the festival they decorate Main Street shops with Christmas decorates, have a band playing Christmas Carols and you might even see Santa. One of the best Christmas in July events in Australia! A must for the family! Ticket prices are listed on the website. *All rates and conditions subject to change without notice. Please check directly with the establishments for latest prices and conditions.

Due to people living on the other side of the river where our mining claim is and not liking our mining, they called the cops. The people just did not want their liberal utopia disturbed so they call the cops to harass us. The police were very cool as I knew one of them from checking our permits on another river couple months earlier and from DEQ meetings he shows up at. The lady yells to us from other side of river "you need a permit to do that"...duh, we had them. She also told cops we were disrespecful and rude to her...which was a big ole lie out her liberal ass. In the video, it is a continuous video, shot on my GoPro camera that I was wearing on my head. The video shows me mining and moving around with no editing to show what actually goes on while mining. Then my buddy shows up and helps me move rocks while I'm using a sub-surface dredge...then the cops show up. UPDATE Jan 1st, 2015: In response to some of the comments saying we are uneducated, rednecks and other stuff...the guys in the video are as follows. One is a millionaire CPA, another a self employed business owner, two others are also self employed and owns a body shop and the other an internet marketer and freelance videographer, and lastly one is the son of the CPA guy and currently in college. Oregon Mining Law: Next time this happens, I will ask the State Police to cite the offending people who disrupt our mining operation based on this Oregon Mining Law: "ORS 517.133 Interfering with a mining operation. (1) As used in this section, "lawful mining operation" means any small scale mining operation that is in full compliance with state and federal laws. (2) A person commits the crime of interfering with a mining operation if the person intentionally: (a) Interferes with a lawful mining operation; or (b) Stops, or causes to be stopped, a lawful mining operation. (3) Interfering with a mining operation is a Class C misdemeanor. [1999 c.354 §6]" Here is the GoPro camera I was using: http://amzn.to/19yYus6

Posted Mon 2 Oct 2017, 8:30pm Digging into Adani: The dubious dealings of India's corporate colossus. "Why would the crime branch want to see us?" Stephen Long, reporter When Four Corners travelled to India to investigate the activities of the giant Adani group, they soon discovered the power of the company. While attempting to film and gather information about Adani's operations, the Four Corners team had their cameras shut down, their footage deleted and were questioned for hours by police. The team were left in no doubt that their investigations into the Indian company triggered the police action. For months, Four Corners has been digging into the business practices of the Adani Group. This is the corporate colossus that plans to build Australia's biggest mine site. "I do know about Adani and that means thousands of jobs for regional Queenslanders ..." Annastacia Palaszczuk, Qld Premier The polarising debate around the proposed mine site in Queensland's Galilee Basin is often pitted as a simplistic jobs versus greenies argument. But there are influential figures in India who warn that Australians need to know much more about the Adani Group. "You know, the Australian politicians are obviously not properly briefed by their offices." Former senior energy official On Monday Four Corners examines the troubled corporate history of the Adani group in India revealing the findings of government investigations into financial and environment crimes. "The report found not accidental violations, the report found deliberate violations, wilful violations." Former Government Minister The program analyses the Adani Group's opaque financial operations and investigates the ramifications for their Australian operations. "What this tells you is that here is a business group that will not stop at anything to maximise its profits." Economist This investigation examines whether, in the rush to secure jobs and shore up the mining industry, Australian politicians have failed to properly scrutinise the company that's now hoping to receive a taxpayer funded loan of up to $1 billion for its project. "I think the Australian Government ought to do environmental due diligence, which it seems not to have done. It certainly has to do financial due diligence. Both due diligences are required, both for the financial side and from the environmental side." Indian politician Digging into Adani, reported by Stephen Long and presented by Sarah Ferguson, goes to air on Monday 2nd October at 8.30pm.

"Don't shoot they got fucking guns"! Locked up for a minor crime, 19 year old JR quickly learns the harsh realities of prison life. Protection, if you can get it, is paramount. JR soon finds himself under the watchful eye of Australia's most notorious criminal, Brendan Lynch, but protection comes at a price. He’s not inside 10 minutes before he recognises Brendan (Ewan McGregor), a famed criminal who’s doing 25 years. They sort of bond over chess, but in one of the film’s many calculated ironies, it’s the tribal warfare of prison life that brings them truly together. Let’s just say it has something to do with sexual violence and score settling. So now JR, alienated, scared and in the thrall of a twinkled eye Brendan, has a debt to repay. Once out, JR is the lynchpin in an ingenious escape plot designed to spring Brendan and a couple of his mates from the nick and it involves a hijacked joyride helicopter and some military standard ordinance. This is one of several outstanding action set pieces in the movie, mostly because Avery and co. have a talent for combining kinetic thrills, humour and elaborate choreography of men and machines in surprising ways. Son of a Gun is a 2014 Australian crime thriller film written and directed by Julius Avery. It stars Brenton Thwaites, Ewan McGregor, Alicia Vikander and Jacek Koman.

North America is linked North to South by a mythic road: the Pan-American. However, in the middle of this road, there is a long gap of some hundred kilometres, between Panama and Colombia. This is Darien. Darien is a swamp, an impenetrable jungle of 12,000km2. And yet men and merchandise have been crossing this zone for thousands of years. Today they often do it illegally by rivers or pathways. The film’s directors followed Gina, a colourful businesswoman, who stocks her business, 3 days from Panama City in the jungle, with whatever means she can. She brings up tons of goods, first by truck then by canoe. They call her the “Queen of the Tuira River”. Indians, farmers, gold diggers, adventurers: they all meet in Darien. In the Choco region, in Colombia, having a truck or even a mule is of no use. The only means of transport is men. Only the paseros, or smugglers, can carry on their backs and barefoot, the tons of goods and of the most fragile kind from one side of the mountain to the other. Finally, the filmmakers have crossed this green hell undercover with illegals from Somalia, Sudan and Eritrea. Without bearings, the illegals put their lives into the hands of smugglers with few scruples…

Zimbabwe is at risk of losing its youth to codeine cough syrup, as the addiction epidemic has already engulfed what the experts estimate could be over half the country’s young people. Despite the growing problem, Zimbabwe’s government has not yet opened rehabilitation clinics, meaning addicts are often sent to prison or psychiatric wards. The cough syrup, often of the brand BronCleer, is imported illegally from South Africa, and is sold on every street corner, in bars, school yards and on busses for as little as $3 a bottle. We meet current and former users, as well as the NGOs pushing the government to open up rehabs, to find out why cough syrup has become the drug of choice for so many young Zimbabweans. Set in gold rush-era Victoria, and based on a true story, this violent, rollicking portrayal of infamous Irish outlaw Dan Morgan (Dennis Hopper) is a classic of Australia's 70s cinema renaissance. A prospector who turns to crime and opium after failing at gold mining, Dan Morgan spends six brutal years in prison before terrorising country Victoria with a young Aboriginal, David Gulpilil (Walkabout). Having escaped into NSW, the bushranger and his accomplice easily dodge the police and mercilessly intimidate the wealthy land owners; but wracked by madness and a lust to avenge an earlier attack from an irate squatter, the notorious Mad Dog makes a perilous journey back into Victoria. Dennis Hopper called the role one of his great life experiences - director Philippe Mora (Communion) creates one of the great period action dramas.

Who gets to decide? Filmmaker Suzan Beraza documents the debate in her new film Uranium Drive-In. Rhinos are killed for their horn. But now in South Africa they face a new threat -- coal. Plans for an open cast coal mine on the border of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, home to the largest population in the world of the once endangered white rhino, may bring economic development. However, these plans will also worsen air and water quality and increase poaching and crime. Jeff Barbee reports from South Africa. The indigenous people in Ecuador's Kimsakocha wetlands rely on the land's water for their livelihood -- agriculture and livestock production. But there is gold under the water and foreign mining companies are out to get it. The local people mount a fierce opposition. "Resistance will not end, we will not give up even if we are in prison," says local community leader Carlos Perez. Constantino de Miguel reports from Ecuador.

Jason Burack of Wall St for Main St welcomed back returning guest, respected former value investor on Wall St and one of the top forensic accountants on Wall St, Charles Ortel http://charlesortel.com/. Charles was warning people about accounting problems in GE, GM and the large Wall St banks well in advance of the 2008 financial crisis and his warnings proved prescient. Charles has been on a long and time consuming crusade for the truth about the Clinton Foundation and exposing the "largest ever charity fraud" in world history in excess of $100 billion. During this 50+ minute interview, Jason starts off by asking Charles about the news today how Donald Trump's former campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, said that the Trump administration won't pursue additional investigations about the Clinton private email server/Clinton Foundation. Links to stories: 1) http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-22/trump-wont-pursue-charges-against-hillary-shes-been-through-enough 2) http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/22/politics/conway-no-clinton-charges-donald-trump/index.html Charles thinks Trump is playing poker, doing a rouse or intentionally doing a head fake. Notice how the Trump camp didn't say the FBI, DOJ and IRS have stopped current investigations of the Clinton Foundation? Next, Jason asks if/when Obama and/or Trump pardon Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton if the pardon will cover all the crimes from the Clinton Foundation? Charles says absolutely not. He says the Clinton Foundation is most likely being investigated by state tax agencies in the US, foreign tax agencies (for setting up unregistered Clinton Foundation subsidiaries) and the Clinton Foundation has so many potential counts of wire fraud, mail fraud and solicitation (more than Corrine Brown received over 300 years in prison for!) that a blanket pardon can't cover everything. Jason also asks Charles about any additional information that came out about the Clinton Foundation when Julian Assange and Wikileaks released the 36 batches of Podesta Emails? It appears that the accounting firm for the Clinton Foundation has acted like Arthur Anderson did in covering up the massive accounting fraud at Enron. 8 Laws HRC could be indicted for breaking: http://dailycaller.com/2015/09/21/eight-laws-hillary-clinton-could-be-indicted-for-breaking/ Please visit the Wall St for Main St website here: http://www.wallstformainst.com/ Follow Jason Burack on Twitter @JasonEBurack Follow Mo Dawoud on Twitter @m0dawoud Follow Wall St for Main St on Twitter @WallStforMainSt Also, please take 5 minutes to leave us a good iTunes review here! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/wall-street-for-main-street/id506204437 If you feel like donating fiat, Bitcoin, Bitgold, gold or silver, Wall St for Main St accepts donations on our main website.
