Moving to or living in the UK? Looking to apply for work? You will need to prepare your British English CV. A CV is also known as a resume. Did you know that in the UK, we have our own way of making CVs that is different from what is commonly done in other European countries? A British CV is closer in format and structure to an American CV. In this lesson, you will learn what to include and what not to include in your curriculum vitae. Also, I will teach you some impressive vocabulary and phrases for your CV that will help you land that interview and achieve your goals. It's not easy to find employment, but with the right skills, you have a better chance of getting the job you want! Take a quiz on this lesson here: http://www.engvid.com/job-skills-uk-cv/ TRANSCRIPT Hello, everyone. I'm Jade. What we're talking about today is your British English CV. Maybe you want to put together your first British English CV to apply for jobs in the UK. So in this video, I'm going to tell you what's standard, and I'll tell you a little bit about it, so that you can create your first or an improved British English CV. So what we're going to talk about first is the format of your CV. Because we... There's not like one CV that's... Everybody does. There are conventions, there are set ways of doing it, but within that, there is some leeway; you can do different things. And this is important when we think about format, because it really depends what experience you have, which format you're going to choose, because you want to use your CV to sell yourself. So if you've got a lot of experience behind you, then you want to do a chronological CV, with your most recent job and then going backwards. We usually have the most detail... Or no, we do. We have the most detail for the most recent or current job, and then after that, the previous job, some detail as well. But generally after that, we don't really say much about the jobs that far in the past. And that's the key difference that I've seen on many CVs when I'm looking at CVs from people from Italy or Spain or wherever. They usually have a lot of detail for past jobs that were quite a long time ago, whereas we don't really say so much about things that were in the past, especially if they were more than two years ago. Yeah. What if you don't really have much experience, well what do you do then? Well, you put your education in the first position. So, you would want to put your education first. In the experience CV, the education isn't the most important thing; that can go at the end or on the second page. And what if you're a freelance worker or a temporary worker? So, you've got lots of little jobs, what do you do then? Well, you choose a format where you're grouping your experience in most important projects that you did. It's not really about the time that you worked on something; it's about the skills that you acquired. So in this kind of CV, you really need to express all your skills, not how long it was, how long you were there, and this kind of thing like in a normal job. What not to include, then, on your British English CV? I think there's a difference between what's the law about what not to include and what's the actual practice. Because by law, we're not meant to put our date of births or photographs on CVs. But, it's, it does happen for certain kinds of jobs. Let's take this example: you move to London, and you're trying to get a job in London, and you want to do a waitressing job or a bar job, or something like that. If you go into independent places, independent places and maybe not like... Maybe they don't really know about the law, and actually they do want to know how old you are. So, in... I'm not telling you to do it, I'm just saying that it happens that some people choose to put this information on their CVs. I, this is a just a personal thing of mine: on a CV, I just find it completely pointless that somebody puts headings like "email" and then puts an email address after it with a name in it, because it's obviously your email. It's like a word that we don't need. We don't need to see that on the CV. Same with "mobile". We know what a mobile number looks like. So pointless headings I don't like, and also, I don't like the title at the top, when somebody writes "CV" or "Curriculum Vitae" which is a Latin word, because we obviously know it's a CV. So, I'm against pointless extra words on CVs.

In many ways, college graduates are now actually in a worse position financially than those who don't go to college, says Nobel-winning economist Paul Krugman. Here, Krugman shares his advice for dealing with debt and surviving American unemployment. Paul Krugman: College graduates should be in a better position than those with lower education, but in many cases now they're in a worse position because they've come out of college with a lot of debt and they're coming into a job market that offers few jobs. It's definitely hard, and I can't give you easy advice. . . . Keep on plugging. Even in bad times effort makes a difference. Working even in a job that isn't the job that you ought to have is better than not working. And also, by the way, you're not just someone seeking a job. You're also a citizen, so vote for politicians who promise to do something about it instead of just using the usual empty rhetoric. Keeping yourself ready, particularly if you're a highly skilled, highly educated person and you're not finding a job that will make use of that, I know it's tough, but I'd say, don't give up, and that means not just don't give up searching but don't give up staying in touch. Being an informed citizen--keeping track of what's going on in the world is important to be a good citizen, but it's also important to keep your mind sharp. So even if you're working at a job that is more menial than you wanted, keep on reading, or keep on reading the New York Times--I would say that, right?--but keep on reading the New York Times. Keep up with the news. Keep up with what's happening. Stay interested. The world will be more ready to make use of you when this crisis ends if you have been keeping up with the world.Let me say a word on behalf of the internet. It's been—there is an awful lot of garbage out there on the internet, but it's also true that it's more possible for any interested citizen to be really well informed than ever was the case before. There's excellent discussions--I follow economics, of course--but many, many fields, you can find the best discussions, the issues being batted back and forth between people who really know . . . and where they have disagreements, they're really interesting disagreements. That's up there every day on the web. There are now increasingly courses. You can—now you don't even have to register. You can watch lectures. If you want to see education at the most elite schools in the country, a lot of that is up on the web--actually, not mine, not Princeton, not yet, but we'll get there. In a way this is like the third age of America. There was the age of Abe Lincoln studying by candlelight in his log cabin or whatever it was he did, something like that, when people could educate themselves. And then there was the America of the post-war era, which is the one I grew up in, where a lot of education really had to take place in a very formalized setting because we had these great universities, and state universities at least were affordable and everybody had access. Now we're in an age where between budget cutbacks and the dire state of the economy, some of those more formal channels are being closed off. They shouldn't be, but they are, but the ability to continue educating yourself is now even better than it was when Abe Lincoln was chopping logs. This is the great age of the intelligent person who wants to keep abreast and can become highly educated, can become an expert even without those formal qualifications. I think the main thing is find things that you're interested in and which aren't just—it's not just checking boxes on the career resume because that is becoming less and less a reliable path to advancement. Instead, be sure that you have something to sell, which is not just, "Here is my transcript," but being able to talk about and weigh in on and contribute to discussions that go well beyond that. That's the best thing you can do. Good luck.Directed / Produced byJonathan Fowler & Elizabeth Rodd

Help me caption & translate this video! http://www.amara.org/en/profiles/videos/Evan%20Carmichael/ john: "Here is a dilemma for you Eric ... I don't know I think I have entrepreneurial a.d.d. ... I started out a few years ago thinking that I wanted to start shop to work on cars bikes etc... I have been tinkering on cars from the age of 12 on I'm 22 now.. I went out got a job in the industry really enjoyed it ended up starting my own shop about 5 months ago and now I couldn't be more bored of it I still enjoy working on cars and it's always going to be a hobby of mine but everyday it's just becoming tedious and annoying . So I ended up quitting the business and working for a company doing the same exact thing which is actually more fun that way for me because I enjoy being around people. And the shop I had it was literally just me and I had my girlfriend coming after her job and help do silly little things. But even now I'm truly not satisfied. I like the feeling of owning my own business and knowing that it's all under the control of my own hands. I really don't know why I feel that way but its just the way it is. I think I'm going to start heading in the direction of being around people maybe buying and selling items may be some sort of a retail business. I might start buying and selling instruments for I have played music also for my whole life. I guess what I'm wrapping it all up to question you is what do you think I should do. I feel like I'm never going to find the right direction. I'm really hoping that this all pans out and I enjoy the next path I attempted to go down. But everybody is telling me hey stick with something and it's actually starting to make me worry I do have to settle down some point in time I have bills and an apartment. But I really enjoy cars I really enjoy music and I enjoy buying and selling things retail wise I enjoy being around people and I enjoyed festivals and festivities I'm just lost in the sauce on what path to go down any advice?"

( http://bit.ly/2yCbsac ) --- affiliate link to help support this channel!^ Currently the average pay for a data analyst is $76,419 on the button, according to glassdoor I receive a lot of questions about what it takes to become a data analyst and what is a data analyst. Clearing up what a data analyst does everyday and what that description means to someone looking to enter the data science industry What will you actually be asked to do on the day to day as a data analyst. ► Top 4 Responsibilities in the Daily Life of a Data Analyst: 1 ) Mathematics Although mathematics only makes up about 20% of the day to day life of a data analyst. It is still important to have a strong understanding of the foundations of mathematics. - Addition - Subtraction - Multiplication - Division - Most Importantly --- Statistics Data analytics is all about statistics. Most of the statistics will be handled by the tools you are working with, but in order to be a great data analyst it is best to know why the tools are producing specific results. A strong understanding of statistics will be useful to you. 2 ) Computer Programming You must be able to work proficiently in one or more computer programming languages. This make up for roughly 60%-70% of your daily work. in order to analyze data it must be queried (drawn) from a large data warehouse. You will use computer programming languages such as SQL, Python, and R to query data. Before we move on let me define the term Query, if it does not resonate with you. You need strong computer programming skills in order to accomplish this task. As a data analyst you will do a lot of drawing and analyzing data. ► For more info on databases, SQL, and other jargon check out our Video Series on Data Jargon ( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_9qmWdi19yDhnzqVCAhA4ALqDoqjeUOr ) 3 ) Know the Tools of the Trade Once you query data from the database onto your workspace you will begin to utilize data analytics tools to process, scrub, and analyze data (data Jargon explained on our Video series ^^^). You will be able to perform these tasks by using tools like Hadoop, Open Refine, Tableau, Apache Spark, etc... As you process the data you will begin to see connections between the data sets. You will see some of the following errors and you will want to remove these in order to ensure that your data analysis is accurate: - Duplicated data - Improperly formatted data - Incomplete data - Inaccurate data - This data will corrupt your findings and could possibly lose you client or employer millions of dollars. Make sure you know how to use those data analytics tools WELL! 4 ) Communicate and Present Insights Data Analyst will also be called upon to clearly and consciously present your research to clients, managers, or executives. Ok, now I know you are curious if you are capable of learning all of these crucial skills. Yes, you can, but there is a clause. You have to learn from the best. The guys over at Edureka.co are the leading professionals in the big data training industry. Based out of India, home to over 101,000 individuals in the data science industry (at the time of this writing). They are eager to make a way for themselves in the new digital economy. Have you ever wondered that why despite of having listed all the details about yourself in the resume, the interviewer still likes to start the session by asking you “Tell me something about yourself” The reason for this is that people like listening to information been presented to them in the form of verbal expression in contrast to referring to a printed document. Yes this simply means that they directly like to hear from the horses’s mouth that how would the candidates like to narrate the story of their life, in their own words. “Tell us something about yourself” doesn’t means that you go right back to your childhood memories and share tales of your first love or your favorite ROCK band or your obsession with Harry Potter; rather think about the awards, accolades or experiences you’ve had in your life. Consider the themes, personality traits and skills that come across through these experiences and introspect that which of these are the most important to get across through recruiters. Through personal introduction, the interviewer is giving you a chance to highlight all the key features of your personal and professional life, the top experiences you’ve had so far and the most influential skills you possess. Follow the points mentioned in the video, the next time you face a job interview and enhance the chances of you getting selected!!

This video was meant to be filmed months ago.. but y'all know me.. I wanted to get this up because there aren't too many videos around where people showcase their full college accepted art portfolios- notably for RISD and Parsons School of Design. When I was an applicant, I found videos like this very helpful (at least for my anxiety at the time) so I do hope that prospective RISD and Parsons applicants find this informative! I applied to a total of 3 colleges in my senior year of high school, (Rhode Island School of Design, Otis School of Art and Design, and Parsons School of Design). All of the pieces featured in the video were sent in my college application, though some pieces are not shown and were only included in my Otis application. But my ENTIRE portfolio for RISD is up on here! Nothing left out. I didn't talk too much into the actual application process, and I didn't give as much advice as I wanted to. This video is more about showing my portfolio, and if needed, I can put another one up specifically talking about the HOW of applying to art schools. Any questions, just feel free to ask below.
