The Grateful Dead - Ripple (Studio Version)

04:14
Link to the picture: http://thingstolookathigh.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/alice-in-wonderland-trippy.png Robert Hunter, wrote this song in 1970 in London in the same afternoon he wrote "Brokedown Palace" and "To Lay Me Down" (reputedly also drinking an entire bottle of retsina in the process). The song debuted August 18, 1970 at Fillmore West in San Francisco. Like many folk songs, "Ripple" addresses itself as a song and an instrument of the performers' emotional expression. Several lines throughout the song echo the 23rd Psalm of the Bible. Trip hard and good, motherfuckers.

Ripple - Grateful Dead (cover sung by Kogawa and Bill)

04:20
The song "Ripple" was just one of the great songs from the 1970 album "American Beauty". The whole album has so many great songs on it. The lyrics to "Ripple" have so much meaning, especially for the time it was written, but great song and lyrics stand up to time, as does this song. The entire song could be written today, and it would all hold true. The line at the end of the song "If you should stand then who's to guide you? If I knew the way I would take you home!" This is such an uplifting song of promise and hope, but knows the reality of life......anyway, I have digressed.....Kogawa and I hope you enjoy our take on this great song. Here is the link to Kogawa's YT page....wonderful music: https://www.youtube.com/user/Franken000

THE GRATEFUL DEAD : "RIPPLE" (1970 Album Version)

04:13
ALBUM: "AMERICAN BEAUTY" (1970) THE GRATEFUL DEAD TRACK 06 "RIPPLE" If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung, Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near, as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken, Perhaps they're better left unsung. I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air. Ripple in still water, When there is no pebble tossed, Nor wind to blow. Reach out your hand if your cup be empty, If your cup is full, may it be again, Let it be known, there is a fountain, That was not made by the hands of men. There is a road, no simple highway, Between the dawn and the dark of night, And if you go, no one may follow, That path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, When there is no pebble tossed, Nor wind to blow. You, who choose to lead, must follow But if you fall, you fall alone. If you should stand, then, who's to guide you? If I knew the way, I would take you home. La dee da da da, La da da da da, Da da da, da da, da da da da da La da da da, La da da, da da, La da da da, La da, da da. Written by JEROME J. Grateful Dead - Box of Rain

05:29
According to Wikipedia: "Box of Rain" is a song by the Grateful Dead, from their 1970 album American Beauty. The song was composed by bassist Phil Lesh and lyricist Robert Hunter, and sung by Lesh. In later years, the song was a favorite and the crowd would shout "Let Phil sing!" to hear the song.[1] Lyrics: Look out of any window, any morning, any evening, any day. *Maybe the sun is shining, birds are winging, Though rain is falling from a heavy sky. What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through? For this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago. Walk out of any doorway, feel your way, feel your way like the day before. Maybe you'll find direction, Around some corner where it's been waiting to meet you. What do you want me to do, to watch for you while you are sleeping? Then please don't be surprised when you find me dreaming too. Look into any eyes you find by you, you can see clear to another day, Maybe been seen before, through other eyes on other days while going home. What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through? It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago. Walk into splintered sunlight, Inch your way through dead dreams to another land. Maybe you're tired and broken, Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken and thoughts unclear What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through? A box of rain will ease the pain, and love will see you through. Just a box of rain, wind and water, *believe it if you need it, if you don't just pass it on Sun and shower, wind and rain, In and out the window like a moth before a flame. And it's just a box of rain, I don't know who put it there, Believe it if you need it, or leave it if you dare. And it's just a box of rain, or a ribbon for your hair; Such a long long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Grateful Dead - Friend of The Devil

03:24
Garcia,Dawson,Hunter Lyrics: I lit out from reno, I was trailed by twenty hounds Didnt get to sleep last night till the morning came around. Set out runnin but I take my time A friend of the devil is a friend of mine If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight. Ran into the devil, babe, he loaned me twenty bills I spent the night in utah in a cave up in the hills. Set out runnin but I take my time, a friend of the devil is a friend of mine, If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight. I ran down to the levee but the devil caught me there He took my twenty dollar bill and vanished in the air. Set out runnin but I take my time A friend of the devil is a friend of mine If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight. Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night, The first ones named sweet anne marie, and shes my hearts delight. The second one is prison, babe, the sheriffs on my trail, And if he catches up with me, Ill spend my life in jail. Got a wife in chino, babe, and one in cherokee The first one says shes got my child, but it dont look like me. Set out runnin but I take my time, A friend of the devil is a friend of mine, If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight.

Grateful Dead - Truckin'

05:09
Grateful Dead - Truckin' Garcia;Lesh;Weir;Hunter Lyrics:Truckin got my chips cashed in. keep truckin, like the do-dah man Together, more or less in line, just keep truckin on. Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on main street. Chicago, new york, detroit and its all on the same street. Your typical city involved in a typical daydream Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings. Dallas, got a soft machine; houston, too close to new orleans; New yorks got the ways and means; but just wont let you be, oh no. Most of the cast that you meet on the streets speak of true love, Most of the time theyre sittin and cryin at home. One of these days they know they better get goin Out of the door and down on the streets all alone. Truckin, like the do-dah man. once told me youve got to play your hand Sometimes your cards aint worth a dime, if you dont layem down, Sometimes the lights all shinin on me; Other times I can barely see. Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip its been. What in the world ever became of sweet jane? She lost her sparkle, you know she isnt the same Livin on reds, vitamin c, and cocaine, All a friend can say is aint it a shame? Truckin, up to buffalo. been thinkin, you got to mellow slow Takes time, you pick a place to go, and just keep truckin on. Sittin and starin out of the hotel window. Got a tip theyre gonna kick the door in again Id like to get some sleep before I travel, But if you got a warrant, I guess youre gonna come in. Busted, down on bourbon street, set up, like a bowlin pin. Knocked down, it gets to wearin thin. they just wont let you be, oh no. Youre sick of hangin around and youd like to travel; Get tired of travelin and you want to settle down. I guess they cant revoke your soul for tryin, Get out of the door and light out and look all around. Sometimes the lights all shinin on me; Other times I can barely see. Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip its been. Truckin, Im a goin home. whoa whoa baby, back where I belong, Back home, sit down and patch my bones, and get back truckin on. Hey now get back truckin home.

Grateful Dead "Ripple" Acoustic Guitar Lesson

26:41
Tabs for this and all my popular lessons at: https://goo.gl/D0wU88 Hello friends, And welcome to another by request song tutorial. Thanks to popular demand, I've created a complete guitar lesson for the Grateful Dead's 1970 classic "Ripple." In this free tutorial, I'll break down my approach to combining Jerry Garcia's rhythm and lead guitar parts for the intro, and the chord changes and strumming options for the verse and chorus sections. Let's get started! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Links: Facebook: http://facebook.com/swiftguitarlessons Instagram: https://instagram.com/swiftguitarlessons Twitter: https://twitter.com/swiftlessons Request a song at: http://swiftlessons.com/Request_a_Song

Ripple - Cover of This Grateful Dead Song

04:14
About the Song: This is one of my favorite Grateful Dead songs from the American Beauty album. The whole song has amazingly deep lyrics written by Robert Hunter (and music by Jerry Garcia) in 1970. Genre: Folk Rock Here are the lyrics (must be shared ;) ): If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung, Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken, Perhaps they're better left unsung. I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air. Ripple in still water, When there is no pebble tossed, Nor wind to blow. Reach out your hand if your cup be empty, If your cup is full may it be again, Let it be known there is a fountain, That was not made by the hands of men. There is a road, no simple highway, Between the dawn and the dark of night, And if you go no one may follow, That path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, When there is no pebble tossed, Nor wind to blow. You, who choose to lead, must follow But if you fall you fall alone. If you should stand then who's to guide you? If I knew the way I would take you home.
