Miner's Delight is an old gold mining ghost town in Wyoming. Originally named Hamilton City, the town's locals changed it's name to Miner's Delight because of the Miner's Delight mine that was found just about a mile from the where the remains of the town are today. The Miner's Delight was not as large as some towns back in it's time but it still had about 100 full time miners that worked the claims. Find out more: www.lostmines.net

The hunt for Forrest Fenn's treasure takes us to the Kirwin Mine in Wyoming. It is a beautiful drive. Do not take a rental sedan. You need a 4x4 or an ATV. Plan to be the first one in and the last one out, so you won't have traffic going the opposite direction on that one-lane logging road. Spend the day hiking up two mountain creeks, as well as photographing the mine buildings and the natural scenery. Also, check the weather forecast. If it is likely to rain, do not go, because you will get stuck on the wrong side of the river crossings. As for how this relates to the Forrest Fenn treasure, it likely does not. Yes, Forrest tells of his visit to Meeteetse down below. There is a Brown Mountain. There are creeks. You have to be brave or twisted to drive up jeep trails anyway. As usual, there is not much in the way of sage up in the mountains, which is one of the hints we are looking for. And, there weren't any animals that I recall in the last nine miles going up in there. Drifting through Carbon County Wyoming we come along awesome areas from the past. Sometimes we have a camera to share these experiences with you. This mine shaft was located north of Rawlins Wyoming and we had hoped there was more to it than met the eye. In the end it just turned out to be a big hole!

Some Ghost Towns are simply abandoned cities or towns. Here are some beautiful and eerie examples. ►https://www.instagram.com/eskifymedia/ ►https://twitter.com/EskifyMedia ►https://eskify.com ► https://www.facebook.com/EskifyMedia/ ►Subscribe ► https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtNdZrjjurSTFv-JgvQjssw ►Second channel ► https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx58ZgF5V--kY4TJ37-rv-w Every ghost town has it's own story. Some were small mining settlements that declined with local industry. Times Beach was a small rural community that was evacuated and suddenly quarantined when the entire area was accidentally poisoned with deadly dioxide was very different. It was established in the Amazon rain forest by the industrialist Henry Ford. He wanted a plant to cultivate rubber, but the plant would operate as it's own town with a population in the thousands. But Fordlandia was doomed by Henry Ford's strict rules and swiftly failed. Kayakoy is among the oldest ghost towns on Earth. It was home to an ethnic Greek population until a war between Turkey and Greece forced the population to abandon kayakoy. It was empty before the war ended. We took a trip to the ghost town of Kirwin, Wyoming. Not very easy to get there, but the scenery is like none other. The road was bumpy and water too deep for the Volvo - so we rode our bikes the last 6 miles. At the town there are various buildings and old waste to explore plus endless hiking in the area. We slept in one of the old sheds that was raised up off the ground. Mining didn't go so good here I guess, and people got tired of the long winters and constant danger so they all left. Numerous attempts were made to restart the mining operations because there is gold in them thar' hills, but none were of much success. Amelia Erhart planned to live here after her famous aeroplane voyage, and contracted a cabin to be built about a mile past the town - but she never returned and the cabin was never finished. I'm not sure what the elevation gain is exactly, but the town is at 9600 feet and we biked uphill the entire time...Riding back down was fun

See Photos from our St. Elmo Visit Here: http://bit.ly/St-Elmo-CO St. Elmo was first named Forest City but was later changed because of a California town with the same name. The name St. Elmo was chosen by Griffith Evans, one of the founding fathers, who was at the time reading the novel "St. Elmo". At its peak in the 1890s, the town boasted a general store, telegraph office, town hall, Over 5 hotels, a handful of saloons, dancing halls, a newspaper office, and a schoolhouse. The Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad line ran through St. Elmo (Yes, it's the same South Park you are thinking of). There were 150 mines claimed within St. Elmo. The majority of the folks who lived in St. Elmo worked at the Mary Murphy, Teresa C., The Molly or the Pioneer Mines. The Mary Murphy Mine was the biggest and most productive mine in the area. While in operation, the Mary Murphy Mine recovered over $60,000,000 worth of gold. While the other local mines shut down, the Mary Murphy Mine continued to operate until the "gold standard" was implemented. Which collapsed the price of silver overnight. As a result. The Railroad was closed and eventually abandoned in 1922. Even after the world gave up on this town and its mines, people continued to harvest ore. This was done by hand and miners would haul individual mining carts down the mountain. Once the mining industry closed completely, St. Elmo drastically declined. Miners searched elsewhere for gold, rather than silver. The business district in St. Elmo closed down as well. Few people continued to live in the town. Postal service was discontinued in 1952 after the death of St. Elmo's postmaster. The current population is...three. Have more information about St. Elmo? Want to share? Historic South Pass City and Carissa Mine – A Wyoming Ghost Town – near Lander, Wyoming. South Pass City sprang up when gold was discovered in the area in 1866. Up to three thousand people called this town home in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming, approximately 35 miles south of Lander. Unfortunately, major gold deposits were never found and by the mid 1870’s the town dwindled to just 100 people. Over the next century the town declined further until the last pioneer family moved in 1949. The town fell into disrepair until the end of the 20th century when efforts were taken to renew the community. The Carissa Mine was the primary economic engine for South Pass City. In 1928 new money helped build a modern mill and support buildings but the precious metals were exhausted in a couple of decades. The gold mine and mill closed permanently in 1949. The Friends of South Pass is a non-profit committed to preserving the rich history of South Pass City. They preserved more than 30 structures and the town is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The Friends of South Pass volunteer, host events & support the historic site financially, making sure South Pass City’s future is bright.
