Russia's Massive Diamond Discovery

The discovery was made in the 1970's beneath a 35-million-year-old asteroid crater, 62 miles across known as Popigai Astroblem Apparently, they decided to keep it secret, and not exploit it, because the Soviet Union's huge diamond operations were already producing immense profits in what was then a tightly controlled world market. Moscow finally pulled back the veil of secrecy by allowing geologists to talk about it with Russian journalists, and according to one news agency, the diamonds are "twice as hard" as the usual gemstones, making them ideal for industrial and scientific uses. These types of diamonds are known as impact diamonds, which result when a meteor plows into a graphite deposit at high velocity. It's estimated that "The resources of super-hard diamonds contained in rocks of the Popigai crypto-explosion structure, are by a factor of ten bigger than the world's all known reserves." It will be interesting to see how this discovery affects the global diamond markets. Will this discovery bring prices down? Also, how amazing are meteors? Even though this discovery appears to be a result of a reaction between a space object and earth, its still a strong reminder just how elementally-rich asteroids can be. Will this spur on a renewed exploration of the minerals in and around crater sites? Even the thought of going straight to the source - like James Cameron and a few others want to do - doesn't sound quite as ridiculous once the imagination's gears start cranking about the possibilities of what could be discovered there.

Moon, Asteroid Mining: What It Means for the Economy? SpaceX Falcon Heavy could make it a reality!

Moon Asteroid Mining: What It Means for the Economy? SpaceX Falcon Heavy could make it a reality How Asteroid Mining will save Earth? Why we don’t How Valuable is Asteroid Mining? MINING IN SPACE: What It Means for the Economy? The pros, the cons, the challenges, the scope, and the economy! The mining of celestial bodies and the research, as well as the use of space resources, has gone from science fiction to a palpable reality, considering the near-Earth asteroids as candidates for the first mining incursions outside of our planet. There are already initiatives on an international scale that address these future activities seriously and rigorously. President Obama signed the so-called “Space Law,” approved by the US Congress whose latest title allows companies in the country to exploit space mining and the appropriation of asteroids and other “space resources.” The concept of “space mining” began to develop. Its latest title allows companies in the country to exploit space mining and the appropriation of asteroids and other “space resources” by private individuals and companies if they get the technology to move and exploit the bodies rich in minerals such as platinum, gold, iron or water. the rocky bodies that orbit the Earth or accumulate in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. In this video, Engineering Today will discuss about Mining in Space. How valuable is Asteroid Mining? Does Asteroid Mining Will Revolutionize Our Future Economy? Lets get started RACE TOWARDS THE ASTEROIDS There are many companies interested in asteroids such as Deep Space Industries, Orbital Sciences Corporation, Mars One, Bigelow Aerospace, etc. The Blue Origin aerospace company owned by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is building a rocket called the New Glenn. The SpaceX firm, founded and run by entrepreneur Elon Musk, founder of Tesla Motors and PayPal, is carrying out cargo missions to the International Space Station with its recyclable Falcon 9 Dragon rocket and has plans for the future beyond the orbit land. It is estimated that some asteroids could contain all. Bernstein's Wall Street research firm says a large asteroid called 16 Psyche There are about 12,000 asteroids that pass each year close to the earth,10% of them than on the Moon. Yet, the fever for the conquest of asteroids is as strong as ever. SPACE FUEL But all the interest that asteroids awaken does not end solely on the economic question. future human settlements on Mars. backup systems in space at a much lower cost than carrying them from Earth. It is also expected that asteroids will help us reach the red planet. A trip to Mars would be much cheaper and more efficient if you could get some of the fuel along the way. And that is where the asteroids and the Moon intervene. The moon fell into our clutches in 1969. ASTEROIDS AND THE MOON, IMMEDIATE OBJECTIVE he Moon presents an abundance of the Helium-3 isotope. In this context, NASA has raised the idea of sharing with American companies. With reasonable budgets, it will be possible to send missions to inhabit the Moon in a decade. It is clear that both the Moon and the asteroids are objects of mining in space and there are several countries and a few companies focused on the exploration and use of extraterrestrial resources. Delving a bit into history, space mining American specialists possibilities of mining on the Moon. SPACE MINING AND THE ECONOMY Could the asteroids become a future source of resources? Some companies are already starting to get on the bandwagon of space mining, opening the door to great possibilities but also immense challenges. There are two things you should know about asteroids The only clear thing, for now, is that it will take decades to know if those who invest today in space mining are visionaries or just crazy. The solar system At least 18,000 of them or the Near-Earth Asteroids (NEAs) approach us less than 1.3 times the distance to the sun. And there are many NEAs left to discover. asteroid 20 meter in diameter. No asteroid detection program saw it coming. Space agencies do not devote more and more resources to watch the sky in vain. But the asteroids, in addition to distrust and scientific curiosity, Chris Lewicki, director of Planetary Resources, one of the companies that have space mining as one of their central objectives even mentioned that in principle, you could do anything with the metals that you extract from the asteroids. As he sees it, the universe is your mining factory. Hence, the economic implications of space mining are immense satellites like the Moon and planets like Mars. space to sustain future life on Earth. we will inhabit the Moon and Mars, we will be hovering other planets of the Solar system, and we will extract the minerals of the asteroids. The first Earthman might even be born on a space base.

Should We Mine This Asteroid For Platinum

04:18
This week an asteroid passed by Earth worth an estimated 5 trillion dollars in platinum. Is it possible to mine precious metals in space? In 2011 asteroid UW158, worth an estimated $5.4 trillion, flew by Earth. In 2013, asteroid 2012 DA14, estimated to be worth around $20 trillion, flew by. How do scientists know what an asteroid is made out of? Once it's been located in space, scientists can use ground-based infrared telescopes and spectrometers to see which minerals exist within it. They can even bounce radar off the asteroids and determine composition by what is reflected back. It's never made of just one thing, it's moving, so there's rarely a scientific consensus, but they do have a general idea. Spectrometry and infrared analysis of UW158 suggested it might contain up to 90 million tons of the ultra-rare metal platinum, thus the high price tag. But getting to it, mining it, and then hauling platinum plus any other valuable minerals or metals back is also extremely expensive. Billionaires like Google's Larry Page and Eric Schmidt, as well as Virgin's Richard Branson all have expressed interest in space exploration and could potentially want to mine astroids like UW158. The problem is sending the materials to mine an asteroid into high Earth orbit costs about 10 million dollars per ton...and the tech for mining space rock is untested, although last week Planetary Resources' Arkyd 3 Reflight spacecraft launched from the International Space Station. The A3R is a proof-of-concept test vehicle for landing and extracting resources from an asteroid. The A6, scheduled to launch later this year, will have tools to spot water, and infrared to find minerals on asteroids.

Chris Lewicki on Space: Stop Reading About It And Start Doing It!

42:58
http://www.singularityweblog.com/chris-lewicki-on-singularity-1-on-1-stop-reading-about-it-and-start-doing-it/ Chris Lewicki is the president and Chief Asteroid Miner at Planetary Resources - the first company that plans to locate and mine asteroids for water and prescious metals. The company is backed by a number of billionaires and space enthusiasts such as director James Cameron, Google's Larry Page and Eric Schmidt, X Prize founder Peter Diamandis and billionaire Ross Perot Jr., along with a number of other incredible minds. As Michio Kaku once put it: "You can't go wrong if you put together a bunch of billionaires and NASA scientists." And so I was very excited to interview Chris Lewicki for Singularity 1 on 1. During my conversation with Lewicki we cover a variety of interesting topics such as: how Chris got inspired to work on space exploration; his teenage "deviation" into rock-and-roll music; science fiction, Start Trek and Star Wars; Planetary Resources and its mission; the ARKYD series of spacecraft and their current kickstarter project; the importance of building a community; the company vision timeline; the potential for space war; artificial intelligence and the technological singularity... My two favorite quotes that I will take away from this conversation with Chris Lewicki are: "In space it's not about the distance; It's really about the energy." and "Stop reading about it and start doing it!"

Billionaires Aim to Mine Asteroids while people suffer and die

04:53
http://www.mylesohowe.com https://www.ceawe.com/fair-competition-in-business Billionaires did fundraising for their company planetary resources where James Cameron is their adviser. Ending Cannabis Prohibition will allow for faster exploration of space, think about it. Many governments have outlawed or restricted the most superior resource on earth Cannabis which is keeping the cost of living artificially high. Cannabis is safer than drinking water, nobody dies from cannabis, water kills people, and billionaires aren't doing anything to end cannabis prohibition. Don't people care about human life? Billionaires get so much attention for taking a long time to mine asteroids, while people suffer and die on earth because the most superior resource is outlawed by corruption. Does everyone want this future for your children where billionaires get rich mining asteroids and the masses can't grow a simple harmless plant that is the most useful plant in existence? I struggle with money and the limited tools I have so I started a page on chipin to raise $1500 for better tools. I do not sell Anything, I really appreciate donations to help me make better free videos. http://www.mylesohowe.com/about/ https://www.ceawe.com/hemp Hemp Fuel would make poisonous energy sources obsolete, like nuclear, coal, natural gas, petroleum, no more tar sands because hemp is superior. Hemp uses less water no herbicides and no pesticides. The first diesel fuel was made from oil pressed from hemp seeds. It's non-toxic, a nitrogen fixer, grows well nearly everywhere, a renewable resource, makes food, fuel, paper, rope, medicine, cosmetics, plastic, housing and much more. The the price of food, energy, fuel, fiber, medicine, and even cannabis is being kept artificially high by maintaining prohibition and by limiting or restricting cannabis in any way. Energy Companies and Corporations have a monopoly because the superior resource is outlawed by corruption. If cannabis prohibition ended so many new businesses and jobs would be created instantly. Everything made from toxic oil today, can be made from non-toxic hemp. Any limits or restrictions on hemp are preventing a free market. If there was Any evidence cannabis could cure cancer it should be available without restrictions of any kind, and yet cannabis prohibition has not ended, even with lots of evidence. People even children are suffering and dying every day while big money is extorting the masses for profit without any cure! U.S. Government owns Patent 6630507 Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=pubmed&cmd=DetailsSearch&term=cancer+cannabinoid We need repeal of unconstitutional law(s) to end cannabis prohibition that is violating human rights and keeping the cost of living artificially high by outlawing the most superior resource on earth. The prohibition against marijuana/cannabis was unconstitutional from its inception. Cannabis (Hemp) was attacked in a smear campaign by the petroleum, tobacco, alcohol, pharmaceutical, paper industries to insure against the competition of hemp fuel and safe, non-addicting and biodegradable products. The blind prejudice remains. If we and the other animals on the planet are to survive, we must see through this ignorance and correct the problem. Hemp is practically the best source of creating oxygen and breathing in CO2 creating a sustainable environment. ll newer vehicles can easily be modified to use 85% ethanol. Diesel engines can run on pure pressed hemp seed oil, they already run on other vegetable oil. Wood pellets are now very common, however hemp pellets for stoves and boilers are a much better solution. We can grow hemp locally in virtually any location, and process the hemp locally into fuel pellets. Planetary Resources promote the idea of Water fuel depots which might not sustainable for long-term space settlement because you are using Water which is needed to sustain life to be used for Fuel. There are more efficient methods of spacecraft propulsion and the amount of water in asteroids in this solar system is limited and would be able to last longer if Hemp was utilized as a resource. What if the invention secrecy act is withholding patents and information about more efficient use of ethanol and diesel engines? Developing space could be cheaper and hemp can even make it cheaper to develop antimatter for spacecraft propulsion. In my free documentary Antimatter: The Future is Now I stated all the money spent on entertainment was more than enough money to start a sustainable hemp/space industry. These include gold, iridium, silver, osmium, palladium, platinum, rhenium, rhodium, ruthenium and tungsten for transport back to Earth; iron, cobalt, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, aluminium, and titanium for construction. Due to the high cost of spaceflight, inaccurate identification of asteroids suitable for mining, and ore extraction challenges, terrestrial mining remains the only means of raw mineral acquisition today. If space program funding, either public or private, dramatically increases, this situation is likely to change in the future as resources on Earth are becoming increasingly scarce and the full potentials of asteroid mining—and space exploration in general—are researched in greater detail. However, it is yet uncertain whether asteroid mining will develop to attain the volume and composition needed in due time to fully compensate for dwindling terrestrial reserves.

In the early decades of the Space Age, the government space agencies of the Soviet Union and United States pioneered space technology in collaboration with affiliated design bureaus in the USSR and private companies in the US, entirely funding both the development of new spaceflight technologies and the operational costs of spaceflight. The European Space Agency was formed in 1975, largely following the same model of space technology development. Later on, large defense contractors began to develop and operate space launch systems, derived from government rockets. Private spaceflight in Earth orbit includes communications satellites, satellite television, satellite radio, astronaut transport and sub-orbital and orbital space tourism. In the 2000s, entrepreneurs began designing—and by the 2010s, deploying—space systems competitive to the national-monopoly governmental systems of the early decades of the space age. These new offerings have brought about significant market competition in space launch services after 2010 that had not been present previously. Successes to date include flying suborbital spaceplanes, launching orbital rockets, flying two orbital expandable test modules (Genesis I and II), and the successful development of first-stage orbital launch vehicles that are able to vertically land after a launch so as to enable reuse. The most powerful rocket in operation as of 2018, the Falcon Heavy, was privately developed. Planned private spaceflights beyond Earth orbit include personal spaceflights around the Moon. Two private orbital habitat prototypes are already in Earth orbit, with larger versions to follow. Planned private spaceflights beyond Earth orbit include solar sailing prototypes (LightSail-3).

(The history of the arts and humanities is termed history of scholarship.) Science is a body of empirical, theoretical, and practical knowledge about the natural world, produced by scientists who emphasize the observation, explanation, and prediction of real world phenomena. Historiography of science, in contrast, studies the methods employed by historians of science. The English word scientist is relatively recent—first coined by William Whewell in the 19th century. Previously, investigators of nature called themselves "natural philosophers". While empirical investigations of the natural world have been described since classical antiquity (for example by Thales and Aristotle), and scientific method has been employed since the Middle Ages (for example, by Ibn al-Haytham and Roger Bacon), modern science began to develop in the early modern period, and in particular in the scientific revolution of 16th- and 17th-century Europe. Traditionally, historians of science have defined science sufficiently broadly to include those earlier inquiries. From the 18th century through late 20th century, the history of science, especially of the physical and biological sciences, was often presented as a progressive accumulation of knowledge, in which true theories replaced false beliefs. Some more recent historical interpretations, such as those of Thomas Kuhn, tend to portray the history of science in terms of competing paradigms or conceptual systems in a wider matrix of intellectual, cultural, economic and political trends. These interpretations, however, have met with opposition for they also portray history of science as an incoherent system of incommensurable paradigms, not leading to any scientific progress, but only to the illusion of progress.
