MINING JOBS TV Episode 3: Unskillled & Entry Level Mining Jobs Brought to you by www.miningresumes.com - Kick-start your mining career today and email us at [email protected] or call Mining Resumes on 1300 737 863 Welcome to Episode 3 of Mining Jobs TV. Hi my name is Matt and I will be speaking to you today about unskilled and entry level jobs in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. You may have probably heard the stories about a friend of a friend who is earning over $100,000 a year on a mine somewhere in Western Australia or Queensland and wondered how you could get a mining job too. Entry level or unskilled jobs, like trade assistants or plant operators are hard to get now as every man and his dog are applying for them. The best way to get these jobs would be to move out to the little mining towns and live there and register with all the labour hire companies, there are hundreds of them. Trades people like fitters, welders, boilermakers and electricians still have a fairly good chance of picking up work on mining sites. If you don't have a trade, doing a rigging or scaffolding course would give you a good chance at getting a job, the courses are only about 4 weeks long, but they are fairly expensive. Other unskilled or basic jobs available include cleaners, laundry workers and kitchen hands which is not difficult if you have hospitality training and experience. Talking to people who are currently working on mining sites can be a big help, especially if you have no previous experience or qualifications. It would be even better if you could get in contact with expats from your own country who are working on mining sites. They can let you know who to call and what you need to do. If you are inexperienced and unqualified you need to be fit and ready for physical labour. The work will be very repetitive and routine based with long 12 hour days, so you really need to be mentally prepared, as well as physically. Some mines will have a very high turnover of workers. This is because many people go to work on the mines not knowing what to expect. Because there can be such a high turnover, you may not start earning big money straight away, although your wages won't be small either. Once you've proved yourself to be a reliable worker, your wages should increase. Most mining companies will run police checks, as well as drug and alcohol tests. Even though there are wet mess areas on-site where workers can unwind and drink alcohol, they do have to drink in moderation and be fit-for-work before their shift starts Shutdowns are exactly what the name suggests. Every now and then mining sites need to shut down for upgrades, maintenance or repairs and they usually hire people temporarily to work during shut downs. A lot of the work is unskilled and doesn't last very long, so it's great for backpackers who want to keep on travelling and don't want to make a full-time commitment. It's also a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable on-site experience. To do certain mining jobs you will need to get licences and training, or 'tickets' as they are more commonly known. There are lots of different types of tickets depending on what type of work you're going to do. Some tickets can be very expensive and mines in different states require different tickets, so you really need to do your research before you start spending money on courses. Don't think that just because you're female that the mining companies and recruiters won't consider you. The mining industry in Australia is becoming increasingly gender neutral. It's not just cooking and cleaning jobs either on offer for women either; more and more women are working on Australian mining sites, and in some cases, companies even prefer women for certain jobs. For example, a popular job for women on mining sites is driving a dump truck because research has shown that women are easier on the multi-million dollar equipment yet still get the job done. It's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. MINING JOBS TV Episode 1: Working in the mining industry Brought to you by www.miningresumes.com - Kick-start your mining career today and email us at [email protected] or call Mining Resumes on 1300 737 863 Welcome to the first episode Mining Jobs TV. My name is Matt and today I will be talking about 'working in the Australian mining industry.' Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. Mining in Australia is a significant primary industry and major contributor to the Australian economy with many different ores and minerals are mined throughout the country. The good news is that the Australian mining industry employees people across a broad range of areas from unskilled labourers to mining engineers. There are also opportunities in administrative, human resources and management positions together with numerous trade related opportunities such as Trades Assistant, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Welders, Electricians and Plumbers. As you are probably aware mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. A talented Resume Writer will be skilled in selling your skills and wording the document in a way that includes all important key words. This will give you the best chance of getting one of these jobs and they will also see you are serious about a career in mining due to the efforts you have made in presenting a polished document that clearly states what you have to offer. Many Australians want to know what type of entry level jobs are available in the mining industry that don't require a trade qualification. Both men and women are sought after by mining companies offering jobs such as Cleaner, Utilities, Trades Assistant, Service Crew, Catering, Kitchen Hand, Utilities and Laundry Work. Some of these jobs will require previous experience in areas such as cleaning, catering and hospitality but don't necessarily require previous experience working on mine sites. The main skills and attributes the mining companies are looking for include: - An understanding and commitment to workplace safety - Willingness to travel or work away from home for extended periods - Ability to complete additional courses or training - Strong work ethic and willingness to work 12 hour shifts - Flexible and adaptable approach to work - Capacity to work unsupervised and as part of a team - Punctual, reliable - High level of physical health and fitness - Willingness to undertake drug and alcohol testing as mine sites are focused on a high level of safety and you cannot be under the influence of these substances when working on site You may be wondering, how do I find out about these jobs? Mining jobs are all advertised on the careers pages of the major mining companies such as BHP, Rio Tinto and the Compass Group. You can find the companies through Google Search or email us and we will happily provide an up to date list for you. Mining jobs are also advertised on sites such as seek.com.au which is the main job search site in Australia. Mining Jobs TV Episode 2 - Mining Career Opportunities

05:19
MINING JOBS TV Episode 2: Mining Career Opportunities Welcome to the second episode of Mining Jobs TV. My name is Matt and I will be talking about career opportunities that are available in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. We understand that many people these days are looking at getting ahead financially and seeking career changes - for that reason mining is a great opportunity for many people, regardless of your skills and experience. You could be forgiven for thinking that mining is a fairly specialised profession and that to get a job in a mine, you need to have worked in one before. That may sometimes be the case, but as you'll soon discover, not always. The reality is that across the board, there are probably just as many jobs that DON'T require experience as those that do. Obviously, there are some positions that require certain levels of experience or qualifications that you may not possess. For example, you can't go from being a builder's labourer to a Principal Mine Geologist overnight. And it's highly unlikely that you'll be expected to progress from working in an accountant's office one day, to setting the explosives in an open cut coal mine the next. Keep in mind that the demand for people, both skilled and unskilled is huge, and opportunities exist across all levels. It is in every respect a jobseekers' market. You just need to know what you're looking for, and more importantly, how to look for it. In the last year, mining and resources jobs in Australia grew by an impressive 13% - a figure unmatched by any other job sector. By location, jobs have grown by 5% in Western Australia, 21% in Queensland and a whopping 42% in New South Wales. Simple mathematics will tell you that there are just not enough qualified or experienced people to fill those numbers. If you want to work in resources, it pays to be resourceful. A great way to start is by looking for jobs in mining that relate somehow to what you're doing now -- anything from cleaning to hospitality or admin people have all got skills the mining companies are looking for. The Seek.com.au website will actually help you do it. You start by selecting 'Mining, Resources & Energy' in the Classification box and then you can drill down from there, looking at current jobs that appear for your perusal. You will see that there are many skills and qualifications that are very transferrable from other industries to mining. Mines need engineers, plumbers, electricians, builders, boilermakers, welders, mechanics, IT personnel, HR people, medical staff, logistics experts, heavy vehicle drivers to name just a few. Australian mining companies employees people across a broad range of areas from unskilled labourers to mining engineers. There are also opportunities in administrative, human resources and management positions together with numerous trade related opportunities such as Trades Assistant, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Welders, Electricians and Plumbers. But what if you don't have any skills or experience that relate to the mining industry? Fear not - there are still loads of entry level mining for you to choose from and you'll find many of them on the SEEK website. You'll soon discover that mines need a whole host of people like drillers' offsiders, administrative assistants, cooks and catering staff, cleaners and maintenance staff, childcare workers and general labourers. And many of these positions require no experience whatsoever. All you need to bring is a sense of adventure, flexibility and a willingness to work. As you have probably heard, mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples browse that demonstrate their quality and experience. I enjoyed talking to you today about mining jobs and hope that you have found this episode helpful and I look forward to talking to you again in Episode 3 where I will provide an insight into unskilled and entry level mining jobs. Let's Blast!

05:00
NOTE: Although this video shows an up-close look at the blasting process, NEVER go near an active surface mine or blast site without Federal training and permission. FYI, the white bags are Emulsified Ammonium Nitrate. The read cap is TNT and the silver rod that is connected to it by the yellow wire is the blasting cap, it's what ignites the shot. The white pebbles that are emptied into the blast holes by the powder trucks are the main explosive- "ANFO" or Ammonium Nitrate, which is a mixture of fertilizer and diesel fuel. Once the holes are filled with explosives, rock fines or "stemming" is pushed back in the holes and packed down to keep the explosives under pressure. After all the holes are loaded and rigged up, it's time for the fireworks! And remember kids, don't try this at home! Want to see more Blasting? Underground Training Systems - How to get a job in the Mining Industry

00:41
Underground Training Systems Ph: 08 9297 2647 email: [email protected] web: www.undergroundtraining.com.au Underground Training Systems (UTS) has been set up to offer courses in hardrock underground mining (Gold, Nickel, Copper, Diamonds and many other base metals, excluding coal). Each course has been developed using our company Core Values and Positive Tips for Safety in a Hazardous Workplace . All courses are presented by a consultant that has a W.A shift boss ticket and more than 15 years practical underground mining experience. This gives the course participants a unique opportunity to ask questions and receive experienced answers about all different aspects of mining life. The jobs are Australia wide and there are roughly 23,000 hard rock miners within the Australian industry. The W.A. the Mines Department has estimated that between 10%-15% of these workers leave the industry every year. That works out to be 2300 to 3450 people that leave the industry every year (for a number of reasons) that need to be replaced. These entry level positions are filled with new starters that are commonly referred to as Green . This is where UTS Introduction to Underground Mining course has given employers the opportunity to employ people that have the knowledge of how an underground mine works and the entry level skills that they will be required to be performed. This allows a UTS graduate to become a useful member of an underground crew in 4-7 days of being on site. Entry level jobs covered include dump truck operator, nipper, drillers offsider and service crew member . By completing Introduction to Underground Mining over three days you will have the knowledge for us to present your resume to the relevant mining companies for entry level positions as part of our Placement Program . This program has been designed to give you the best possible chance to "get your foot in the door" and helpful staff who will start the employment process once you enrol.

Adani Rail A Benefit To Other Mines Govt

01:03
Adani Rail A Benefit To Other Mines Govt The Turnbull Government says a $900 million concessional loan to build a rail link to the Adani Carmichael coal mine would also benefit five other mining projects in Central Queensland. Federal Resources and Northern Australia Minister Matt Canavan said the rail corridor would unlock a 'job bonanza' and major economic gains in the Galilee Basin. Earlier in the week, Mr Canavan said Adani has assured the federal government the rail line can be open to multiple users. The Government predict the rail corridor will generate 15,000 direct jobs in the Galilee Basin. Liberal senator James Paterson told Sky News the jobs the rail construction would create 'was nothing to sneeze at' and the project would be 'warmly welcomed by locals'. Federal Labor says the case has still not been made for the concessional loan, Shadow Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh says the job estimates are higher than he had seen. 'The federal Labor's view on the Adani mine is that it needs to stack up economically and environmentally,' he told Sky News. http://www.skynews.com.au/news/politics/federal/2017/04/17/adani-rail-a-benefit-to-other-mines--govt.html

I Wanna Be a Human Resources Officer · A Day In The Life Of A Human Resources Officer

03:55
Hans goes behind the scenes to find out what being a Human Resource Officer entails. Check out more information about a career in Human Resources here: https://studentedge.org/career-life/find-a-career/human-resources-officer Want to see more career videos from Student Edge? ↓ Click here http://s-edg.com/careervideos G'day, Hans here. Now look there are two types of people in this world, those that organize things and the rest of us are just kind of do what they say but if you think you're good with people and you like organizing things maybe human resources could be a career for you. We're here at the Department of Mines to find out what it's all about. You hear the term human resources all the time but it's a pretty obscure and confusing job title. All i know is that it involves dealing with lots of people which is why I'm here at one of the biggest people machines in WA, the Department of Mines and Petroleum to find out exactly what a human resources officer does. Great to meet you Alyce. Well let's start with everything, I need to know if you're working in Human Resources what do you do? So pretty much we work with the employees right through from application to retirement and that could be anything from looking after their safety to training to providing wellness programs or diversity events. So you follow someone's career basically from the beginning right through the end. Yeah while they're in that specific organization. Sure and ok well let's start at the beginning how you came to be in the job. What was your particular path? Where did you study how are you here today? I studied the ECU I studied a bachelor of business and I did a major in human resource management and from that I engaged in lots of different work experience, internship placements I put my name on the templates here at this department and they asked me to come back and work on my initial project. Okay, talk me through a day a typical day of yours when you turn up what do you get up to? First thing I do is look at my emails to make sure there's no employees that are concerned about any issues. That's the first thing you need to get to you need to reply to them quickly. I also because I'm the wellness coordinator I do a lot of events and presentations so i might be one day I might be booking in a presentation I'm checking that staff have RSVP'd properly that kind of thing. We also organize occupational safety and health inductions for new staff so i might be sending out invites. Okay, it's time for you to give us the edge. Can you do that? Absolutely question number one, just quickly from school to what you do now what's the process? Definitely finish high school and an excellent way to increase your opportunities then enroll in either a human resource management course at there's a number of different institutions that offer it or you could do a degree in business and get a a major in human resources or even a psychology degree. Question 2 if I want to be really successful in human resources what characteristics do i need? Definitely a good people person, you need to love working with people, also excellent communication skills that's a big one you need to always be talking with people and also being able to say the same thing to everybody being consistent with your advice to give throughout the organization. And question number three, if you could have done one thing differently but still end up exactly where you are today what would you have done there? Good question i'm quite happy with the path I took but I will say definitely being a little bit more comfortable about asking questions and seeking advice. Well Alyce, thank you so much for talking me through it I now know what it means to work in human resources. Thank you very much it's been really fun. Well there you go that's just the tip of the iceberg of what it means to work in human resources. If you want to get involved you want more info you gotta get onto https://studentedge.org and don't forget if you really keen about it get out there network and meet people.

Introduction to Underground Mining - What will I learn?

00:51

WA man quits mining job and starts his own micro brewery

02:19
Boilermaker quits his mining job to start a micro-brewery that rakes in $400,000 a month - and here's how you can do it too. A West Australian boilermaker's decision to throw in the tools and dedicate his life to brewing beer has paid off in a big way.  Matt Wilson, from Albany in the state's great southern, gave up his grueling fly in - fly out roster in 2015 to take a gamble on a home brewing. A year on, he pioneered Wilson's Brewing Company and now boasts not only an impressive reputation, but an ever-increasing demand for his sought-after brews.   He started 'playing around' with flavours during a year-long hiatus from work, but knew early on he had what it took to take his beers to the masses, WA Today reports.

Underground Training Systems - How to Improve Safety.

00:43

Previous Episode: Are Virtual Particles A New Layer of Reality? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztFovwCaOik Hosted by Matt O'Dowd Written by Matt O'Dowd Graphics by Luke Maroldi Assistant Editing and Sound Design by Mike Petrow Made by Kornhaber Brown (www.kornhaberbrown.com) Why has string theory been the obsession of a generation of theoretical physicists? What exactly is so compelling about tiny, vibrating strings? In our last string theory episode I talked about what these things really are, and covered some history. In short: the strings of string theory are literal strands and loops that vibrate with standing waves. Simply by changing the vibrational mode you get different particles – analogous to how different vibrational modes on guitar strings gives different notes. And, by the way, strings exist in 6 compact spatial dimensions on top of the familiar 3. Liquified Natural Gas Jobs For Gladstone

00:39
Jobs For Gladstone Queensland. Bechtel Liquefied Natural Gas Plant. The first consignment of Queensland liquefied natural gas (LNG) has left the port of Gladstone without a single Australian crew member showing a lack of commitment to local jobs by multi-billion dollar gas companies. Maritime Union of Australia Assistant National Secretary Warren Smith said it was an insult to out-of-work Australians that no local seafarers, officers, or engineers are engaged on the Methane Rita Andrea gas tanker, chartered by BG Group. “Company projections show there is a potential for 250 jobs on BG vessels shipping out of Gladstone alone,” Smith said. “There’s another 600 up for grabs once the other production facilities come online. “These are good, skilled, long-term job opportunities for the people of Gladstone, in contrast to the boom-bust, temporary jobs that were on offer during the construction phase of Curtis Island. “Japanese-owned gas tankers plying the North West shelf trade have long-held local content agreements that have been of mutual benefit to Australian workers and the company. “I would like for BG Group to offer something similar to the people of Queensland in return for profiting off the back of the resources all Australians own.” Local Organiser Jason Miners said the Gladstone community was worried about future employment once the construction boom came to an end. “I have spoken to a wide cross-section of the community, including local Government, local business and the Aboriginal community and members from each of the groups have raised concerns about the creeping unemployment rate,” Miners said. “A potential 800 direct jobs could mitigate a future job and economic crisis as well as provide training opportunities for the region’s young people.” Produced by Jamie McMechan & Ashleigh Telford - Maritime Union of Australia.
