MINING JOBS TV Episode 3: Unskillled & Entry Level Mining Jobs Brought to you by www.miningresumes.com - Kick-start your mining career today and email us at [email protected] or call Mining Resumes on 1300 737 863 Welcome to Episode 3 of Mining Jobs TV. Hi my name is Matt and I will be speaking to you today about unskilled and entry level jobs in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. You may have probably heard the stories about a friend of a friend who is earning over $100,000 a year on a mine somewhere in Western Australia or Queensland and wondered how you could get a mining job too. Entry level or unskilled jobs, like trade assistants or plant operators are hard to get now as every man and his dog are applying for them. The best way to get these jobs would be to move out to the little mining towns and live there and register with all the labour hire companies, there are hundreds of them. Trades people like fitters, welders, boilermakers and electricians still have a fairly good chance of picking up work on mining sites. If you don't have a trade, doing a rigging or scaffolding course would give you a good chance at getting a job, the courses are only about 4 weeks long, but they are fairly expensive. Other unskilled or basic jobs available include cleaners, laundry workers and kitchen hands which is not difficult if you have hospitality training and experience. Talking to people who are currently working on mining sites can be a big help, especially if you have no previous experience or qualifications. It would be even better if you could get in contact with expats from your own country who are working on mining sites. They can let you know who to call and what you need to do. If you are inexperienced and unqualified you need to be fit and ready for physical labour. The work will be very repetitive and routine based with long 12 hour days, so you really need to be mentally prepared, as well as physically. Some mines will have a very high turnover of workers. This is because many people go to work on the mines not knowing what to expect. Because there can be such a high turnover, you may not start earning big money straight away, although your wages won't be small either. Once you've proved yourself to be a reliable worker, your wages should increase. Most mining companies will run police checks, as well as drug and alcohol tests. Even though there are wet mess areas on-site where workers can unwind and drink alcohol, they do have to drink in moderation and be fit-for-work before their shift starts Shutdowns are exactly what the name suggests. Every now and then mining sites need to shut down for upgrades, maintenance or repairs and they usually hire people temporarily to work during shut downs. A lot of the work is unskilled and doesn't last very long, so it's great for backpackers who want to keep on travelling and don't want to make a full-time commitment. It's also a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable on-site experience. To do certain mining jobs you will need to get licences and training, or 'tickets' as they are more commonly known. There are lots of different types of tickets depending on what type of work you're going to do. Some tickets can be very expensive and mines in different states require different tickets, so you really need to do your research before you start spending money on courses. Don't think that just because you're female that the mining companies and recruiters won't consider you. The mining industry in Australia is becoming increasingly gender neutral. It's not just cooking and cleaning jobs either on offer for women either; more and more women are working on Australian mining sites, and in some cases, companies even prefer women for certain jobs. For example, a popular job for women on mining sites is driving a dump truck because research has shown that women are easier on the multi-million dollar equipment yet still get the job done. It's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. MINING JOBS TV Episode 1: Working in the mining industry Brought to you by www.miningresumes.com - Kick-start your mining career today and email us at [email protected] or call Mining Resumes on 1300 737 863 Welcome to the first episode Mining Jobs TV. My name is Matt and today I will be talking about 'working in the Australian mining industry.' Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. Mining in Australia is a significant primary industry and major contributor to the Australian economy with many different ores and minerals are mined throughout the country. The good news is that the Australian mining industry employees people across a broad range of areas from unskilled labourers to mining engineers. There are also opportunities in administrative, human resources and management positions together with numerous trade related opportunities such as Trades Assistant, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Welders, Electricians and Plumbers. As you are probably aware mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. A talented Resume Writer will be skilled in selling your skills and wording the document in a way that includes all important key words. This will give you the best chance of getting one of these jobs and they will also see you are serious about a career in mining due to the efforts you have made in presenting a polished document that clearly states what you have to offer. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples you look at. Many Australians want to know what type of entry level jobs are available in the mining industry that don't require a trade qualification. Both men and women are sought after by mining companies offering jobs such as Cleaner, Utilities, Trades Assistant, Service Crew, Catering, Kitchen Hand, Utilities and Laundry Work. Some of these jobs will require previous experience in areas such as cleaning, catering and hospitality but don't necessarily require previous experience working on mine sites. The main skills and attributes the mining companies are looking for include: - An understanding and commitment to workplace safety - Willingness to travel or work away from home for extended periods - Ability to complete additional courses or training - Strong work ethic and willingness to work 12 hour shifts - Flexible and adaptable approach to work - Capacity to work unsupervised and as part of a team - Punctual, reliable - High level of physical health and fitness - Willingness to undertake drug and alcohol testing as mine sites are focused on a high level of safety and you cannot be under the influence of these substances when working on site You may be wondering, how do I find out about these jobs? Mining jobs are all advertised on the careers pages of the major mining companies such as BHP, Rio Tinto and the Compass Group. You can find the companies through Google Search or email us and we will happily provide an up to date list for you. Mining jobs are also advertised on sites such as seek.com.au which is the main job search site in Australia. You can find the jobs by searching under the mining industry section and by typing key words such Dump Truck which will display all the current jobs available relating to dump truck driving. I hope that you have found this episode helpful and I look forward to talking to you again in Episode 2 where I will provide an insight into mining jobs available and where to find them. Mining Jobs TV Episode 2 - Mining Career Opportunities

05:19
MINING JOBS TV Episode 2: Mining Career Opportunities Welcome to the second episode of Mining Jobs TV. My name is Matt and I will be talking about career opportunities that are available in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. We understand that many people these days are looking at getting ahead financially and seeking career changes - for that reason mining is a great opportunity for many people, regardless of your skills and experience. You could be forgiven for thinking that mining is a fairly specialised profession and that to get a job in a mine, you need to have worked in one before. That may sometimes be the case, but as you'll soon discover, not always. The reality is that across the board, there are probably just as many jobs that DON'T require experience as those that do. Obviously, there are some positions that require certain levels of experience or qualifications that you may not possess. For example, you can't go from being a builder's labourer to a Principal Mine Geologist overnight. And it's highly unlikely that you'll be expected to progress from working in an accountant's office one day, to setting the explosives in an open cut coal mine the next. Keep in mind that the demand for people, both skilled and unskilled is huge, and opportunities exist across all levels. It is in every respect a jobseekers' market. You just need to know what you're looking for, and more importantly, how to look for it. In the last year, mining and resources jobs in Australia grew by an impressive 13% - a figure unmatched by any other job sector. By location, jobs have grown by 5% in Western Australia, 21% in Queensland and a whopping 42% in New South Wales. Simple mathematics will tell you that there are just not enough qualified or experienced people to fill those numbers. If you want to work in resources, it pays to be resourceful. A great way to start is by looking for jobs in mining that relate somehow to what you're doing now -- anything from cleaning to hospitality or admin people have all got skills the mining companies are looking for. The Seek.com.au website will actually help you do it. You start by selecting 'Mining, Resources & Energy' in the Classification box and then you can drill down from there, looking at current jobs that appear for your perusal. You will see that there are many skills and qualifications that are very transferrable from other industries to mining. Mines need engineers, plumbers, electricians, builders, boilermakers, welders, mechanics, IT personnel, HR people, medical staff, logistics experts, heavy vehicle drivers to name just a few. Australian mining companies employees people across a broad range of areas from unskilled labourers to mining engineers. There are also opportunities in administrative, human resources and management positions together with numerous trade related opportunities such as Trades Assistant, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Welders, Electricians and Plumbers. But what if you don't have any skills or experience that relate to the mining industry? Fear not - there are still loads of entry level mining for you to choose from and you'll find many of them on the SEEK website. You'll soon discover that mines need a whole host of people like drillers' offsiders, administrative assistants, cooks and catering staff, cleaners and maintenance staff, childcare workers and general labourers. And many of these positions require no experience whatsoever. All you need to bring is a sense of adventure, flexibility and a willingness to work. As you have probably heard, mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples browse that demonstrate their quality and experience. I enjoyed talking to you today about mining jobs and hope that you have found this episode helpful and I look forward to talking to you again in Episode 3 where I will provide an insight into unskilled and entry level mining jobs. I Wanna Be a Human Resources Officer · A Day In The Life Of A Human Resources Officer

03:55
Hans goes behind the scenes to find out what being a Human Resource Officer entails. Check out more information about a career in Human Resources here: https://studentedge.org/career-life/find-a-career/human-resources-officer Want to see more career videos from Student Edge? ↓ Click here http://s-edg.com/careervideos G'day, Hans here. Now look there are two types of people in this world, those that organize things and the rest of us are just kind of do what they say but if you think you're good with people and you like organizing things maybe human resources could be a career for you. We're here at the Department of Mines to find out what it's all about. You hear the term human resources all the time but it's a pretty obscure and confusing job title. All i know is that it involves dealing with lots of people which is why I'm here at one of the biggest people machines in WA, the Department of Mines and Petroleum to find out exactly what a human resources officer does. Great to meet you Alyce. Well let's start with everything, I need to know if you're working in Human Resources what do you do? So pretty much we work with the employees right through from application to retirement and that could be anything from looking after their safety to training to providing wellness programs or diversity events. So you follow someone's career basically from the beginning right through the end. Yeah while they're in that specific organization. Sure and ok well let's start at the beginning how you came to be in the job. What was your particular path? Where did you study how are you here today? I studied the ECU I studied a bachelor of business and I did a major in human resource management and from that I engaged in lots of different work experience, internship placements I put my name on the templates here at this department and they asked me to come back and work on my initial project. Okay, talk me through a day a typical day of yours when you turn up what do you get up to? First thing I do is look at my emails to make sure there's no employees that are concerned about any issues. That's the first thing you need to get to you need to reply to them quickly. I also because I'm the wellness coordinator I do a lot of events and presentations so i might be one day I might be booking in a presentation I'm checking that staff have RSVP'd properly that kind of thing. We also organize occupational safety and health inductions for new staff so i might be sending out invites. Okay, it's time for you to give us the edge. Can you do that? Absolutely question number one, just quickly from school to what you do now what's the process? Definitely finish high school and an excellent way to increase your opportunities then enroll in either a human resource management course at there's a number of different institutions that offer it or you could do a degree in business and get a a major in human resources or even a psychology degree. Question 2 if I want to be really successful in human resources what characteristics do i need? Definitely a good people person, you need to love working with people, also excellent communication skills that's a big one you need to always be talking with people and also being able to say the same thing to everybody being consistent with your advice to give throughout the organization. And question number three, if you could have done one thing differently but still end up exactly where you are today what would you have done there? Good question i'm quite happy with the path I took but I will say definitely being a little bit more comfortable about asking questions and seeking advice. Well Alyce, thank you so much for talking me through it I now know what it means to work in human resources. Thank you very much it's been really fun. Well there you go that's just the tip of the iceberg of what it means to work in human resources. If you want to get involved you want more info you gotta get onto https://studentedge.org and don't forget if you really keen about it get out there network and meet people.

Let's Blast!

05:00
NOTE: Although this video shows an up-close look at the blasting process, NEVER go near an active surface mine or blast site without Federal training and permission. FYI, the white bags are Emulsified Ammonium Nitrate. The read cap is TNT and the silver rod that is connected to it by the yellow wire is the blasting cap, it's what ignites the shot. The white pebbles that are emptied into the blast holes by the powder trucks are the main explosive- "ANFO" or Ammonium Nitrate, which is a mixture of fertilizer and diesel fuel. Once the holes are filled with explosives, rock fines or "stemming" is pushed back in the holes and packed down to keep the explosives under pressure. After all the holes are loaded and rigged up, it's time for the fireworks! And remember kids, don't try this at home! Want to see more Blasting? Underground Training Systems - How to get a job in the Mining Industry

00:41
Underground Training Systems Ph: 08 9297 2647 email: [email protected] web: www.undergroundtraining.com.au Underground Training Systems (UTS) has been set up to offer courses in hardrock underground mining (Gold, Nickel, Copper, Diamonds and many other base metals, excluding coal). Each course has been developed using our company Core Values and Positive Tips for Safety in a Hazardous Workplace . All courses are presented by a consultant that has a W.A shift boss ticket and more than 15 years practical underground mining experience. This gives the course participants a unique opportunity to ask questions and receive experienced answers about all different aspects of mining life. The jobs are Australia wide and there are roughly 23,000 hard rock miners within the Australian industry. The W.A. the Mines Department has estimated that between 10%-15% of these workers leave the industry every year. That works out to be 2300 to 3450 people that leave the industry every year (for a number of reasons) that need to be replaced. These entry level positions are filled with new starters that are commonly referred to as Green . This is where UTS Introduction to Underground Mining course has given employers the opportunity to employ people that have the knowledge of how an underground mine works and the entry level skills that they will be required to be performed. This allows a UTS graduate to become a useful member of an underground crew in 4-7 days of being on site. Entry level jobs covered include dump truck operator, nipper, drillers offsider and service crew member . By completing Introduction to Underground Mining over three days you will have the knowledge for us to present your resume to the relevant mining companies for entry level positions as part of our Placement Program . This program has been designed to give you the best possible chance to "get your foot in the door" and helpful staff who will start the employment process once you enrol.

Other key components include an 18-speed Fuller RTLO-22918B transmission, with a first gear ratio of 14.4:1 through to 0.73:1 in overdrive. Rear axles are Axle Tech STRC-1297 hub reduction (they’re the old Rockwell off-road model) with a final ratio of 9.59:1. The front axle is Rockwell FL941 rated at 9.1 tonne and the 295 mm deep chassis which has a far thicker web and flange than its highway cousins and features a full length double frame. These power trailer units have a Smith built body on the power-trans chassis (they’re the company who built the power trailer unit) and they’re fitted with either Cummins ISX or Signature engines rated at 450 and 500 horsepower. They are coupled to an Allison automatic transmission and tri-drive SISU hub reduction axles. The control of these trailers is via both a cab mounted hand throttle and married to the accelerator pedal. The advantage of this for instance is when the unit is climbing a hill the trailer can be set at full throttle and when the driver changes gear in the Kenworth C510 there is minimal road speed loss as the trailer is still pushing the unit.

An alcoholic CEO meets with her personal assistant. Then, they reveal secrets and open old wounds. ➤ SUBSCRIBE: http://sub2.omele.to Whispers Among Wolves is used with permission from Kevin Lim. Learn more at http://omele.to/2tD7j7v. Filmmaker Kevin Lim tells the story of Shilo Dashwood, a self-made woman who drinks as hard and she works. Every Wednesday, she meets with her long-suffering personal assistant Teddy to conduct matters of business. But today, he's interrupted by a text from his girlfriend Audrey. He pauses before revealing that he broke a promise with her to work late. Shilo remembers Audrey, affectionately calling her "goat-face." Shilo pushes ahead and keeps insulting Teddy, even insinuating that he may be gay. Finally, Teddy reveals that Audrey broke up with him because she thinks he and Shilo are having an affair. Shilo offers to help fix the situation, but Teddy refuses -- insisting that every time he shares something personal with her, she drunkenly ridicules him and forgets about it the next day. For a moment, Shilo becomes serious. Then, she reveals all the important events of Teddy's life that he assumed she never noticed. He's surprised. Teddy then asks Shilo if she's ever loved someone. For a brief, vulnerable moment, she opens up an old wound from her past -- about a man she could never win the affections of. As she tells the story, she sheds her armor and shows she wasn't always a cynical pragmatist -- she once felt heartache, as well. Shilo and Teddy quickly exchange gifts -- small show of sacrifice. Then, they mull over the co-dependency they've come to rely on each other for. That's when they both agree to make a change. Local jobs advocate given stronger powers to put South Australians first

07:07
Premier Jay Weatherill MP, Assistant Minister to the Treasurer Chris Picton MP and Stephen Mullighan MP, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure announce that South Australia's local jobs watchdog will be enshrined in law stronger powers to ensure Government contracts and projects employ more South Australian workers and use more South Australian materials. The Government will this week introduce the Industry Advocate Bill 2017 to establish the local jobs advocate as a statutory position. The Industry Participation Advocate, Ian Nightingale, will have the power to compel contractors to provide information and documents to ensure they are complying with their contractual obligations to employ South Australian workers and use South Australian materials. The Bill will be accompanied by an updated SA Industry Participation Policy, with a stronger focus on regional development, growth and investment attraction to the State. Currently, local products, materials and labour make up about 80 per cent of State Government goods and services contracts and around 90 per cent of major infrastructure projects. Since 2015, all State Government projects have been required to use steel which meets Australian standards and certification, giving the Arrium steelworks at Whyalla a competitive advantage over lower quality imports. An example of the success of the Government’s policies to put South Australians first is the $985 million Northern Connector project. So far, approximately 97 per cent of on-site labour is by South Australian workers while the project is using about 7500 tonnes of steel from the Arrium steelworks in Whyalla.

Is Tesla a cult? The inconvenient truth about electric cars.

19:12
Is Tesla a cult? Let’s find out. A cult is: “a system of religious veneration and devotion directed towards a particular figure or object”. We’re going to run with that. It fits. Religion is just a system of faith or worship - so it’s broader than just worshipping Jesus or Allah. It’s any system of faith or worship. It all hinges on and devotion. And faith - according to respected critical thinking academic Peter Boghossian (Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Portland State University) - is (quote): “Pretending to know something you don’t know”. Incorporating these definitions, a cult is: A group of people whose enthusiastic devotion to [something] is built on a foundation of pretending to know something they don’t know. So let’s look at Tesla - and see if its cult-membership qualifications are in order. You are definitely part of a cult if you believe that your Tesla is also a green option - a planet-saving option. An environmentally responsible option. If you pretend to know that you are part of the fast track to a clean, green future in the driver’s seat of a Tesla then you are either an idiot or infected by the faith virus. You are pretending to know something you cannot know. If you are designing a Model S, the weight of the battery means you need to rely on relying on some very exotic, lightweight and environmentally filthy materials, in the vehicle’s construction. And then there’s recharging. EVs typically take six or more hours connected to a conventional wall outlet, compared with three minutes for liquid fuels - or even hydrogen fuel-cell cars. It’s a distinct limitation. Here in Australia, the national Greenhouse Accounts demonstrate that EV ownership in the Australian Eastern Seaboard states (where most of us live) is (on average) about six percent better than owning the average internal combustion engine car - on a well-to-wheel basis. Meaning: Taking into account mining and exploiting the fuels as well as using them in the car. Bear in mind if you own a small, fuel-efficient conventional car and compare that with a large EV, like the Model S, the margin shrinks and might even reverse. If you do this in Victoria, it’s already worse based just on the average cars of each ilk, because of the Victorian Grid’s dependence on brown coal. So if you are driving a Tesla Model S because you are pretending to know it’s green, you are infected by the faith virus. During the April 2015 launch of Tesla Energy (the Power Wall subsidiary) Mr Musk described the potential of the world to be powered entirely by batteries charged with renewable energy. That’s according to a report in The Guardian newspaper. Of course the media lapped this up without much critical analysis. In the same report, Phil Hermann - chief energy engineer at Panasonic Eco Solutions (the supplier of the lithium ion cells that form the core foundation of Tesla batteries) is quoted as saying: “Elon Musk is out there saying you can do things now that the rest of us are hearing and going, ‘really?’ We wish we could but it’s not really possible yet.” In the same report, Tom Milnes - CEO of Open Water Power, an MIT spinoff commercialising fuel cells in naval drones (not a Tesla competitor) is quoted as saying of Tesla Energy: “It’s a smart business move, and it might be a commercial success, but as a scientist I don’t think what Tesla’s proposing is a good solution,” Mr Milnes added: “Personally I think the Tesla factory producing hundreds of thousands more lithium-ion batteries is really short sighted because those batteries are just never going to hold the amount of energy we need them to.” These guys are experts. Musk has technical qualifications but it’s his job to spew hyperbole and talk Tesla up. Who would a rational person believe?

This is my interview, where I answer a list of suggested questions. My hair is shorter in this video than my profile picture, but I assure you, I am the same person. A friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer, and I donated my hair, and cut it short so she wouldn't feel alone. :) Enjoy my video! I provide both babysitting, as well as part time, and full time nanny services. [DISCLAIMER: Song used: Everest by Ratatat. WA man quits mining job and starts his own micro brewery

02:19
Boilermaker quits his mining job to start a micro-brewery that rakes in $400,000 a month - and here's how you can do it too. A West Australian boilermaker's decision to throw in the tools and dedicate his life to brewing beer has paid off in a big way.  Matt Wilson, from Albany in the state's great southern, gave up his grueling fly in - fly out roster in 2015 to take a gamble on a home brewing. A year on, he pioneered Wilson's Brewing Company and now boasts not only an impressive reputation, but an ever-increasing demand for his sought-after brews.   He started 'playing around' with flavours during a year-long hiatus from work, but knew early on he had what it took to take his beers to the masses, WA Today reports.
