Autonomous drone flight into a mine stope

05:51
Autonomous flight into an underground mine stope to explore and map it in 3D. The Hovermap payload enables this by providing GPS-denied flight and collision avoidance. In this trial the drone was tasked to fly to a set of pre-defined waypoints. It descended only 5m into the stope but still obtained a dense and relatively complete map. In future the drone will autonomously explore the stope to ensure full coverage without the need for pre-defined waypoints.

What is DRIFT MINING? What does DRIFT MINING mean? DRIFT MINING meaning, definition & explanation

What is DRIFT MINING? What does DRIFT MINING mean? DRIFT MINING meaning -DRIFT MINING definition - DRIFT MINING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Drift mining is either the mining of an ore deposit by underground methods, or the working of coal seams accessed by adits driven into the surface outcrop of the coal bed. A drift mine is an underground mine in which the entry or access is above water level and generally on the slope of a hill, driven horizontally into the ore seam. Random House dictionary says the origin of the term "drift mine" is an Americanism, circa 1885–1890. Drift is a more general mining term, meaning a near-horizontal passageway in a mine, following the bed (of coal, for instance) or vein of ore. A drift may or may not intersect the ground surface. A drift follows the vein, as distinguished from a crosscut that intersects it, or a level or gallery, which may do either. All horizontal or subhorizontal development openings made in a mine have the generic name of drift. These are simply tunnels made in the rock, with a size and shape depending on their use—for example, haulage, ventilation, or exploration.

Underground Drilling and Blasting Training DVD - ACG

03:09
The Australian Centre for Geomechanics has developed this safety training DVD for underground metalliferous mine workers. To purchase this product or find out more information, visit http://www.acg.uwa.edu.au/shop#trainprods Overview All underground mine workers will be exposed to drilling and blasting processes. The aim of this new DVD is to provide workers with the critical knowledge on drilling and blasting to aid appreciation of the importance of these mining processes and their related hazards. The DVD features an introduction to the rock breaking process in mining, followed by a section on how to handle, store and transport explosive products. The third part of the DVD covers development drilling and blasting practices; and the fourth part discusses production drilling and blasting. Target Audience Underground mine workers - the need to identify the potential hazards of working near or with explosives, and the protocols of re-entering a working area after blasting. Workers responsible for development and production drilling and blasting activities. This DVD will review drilling and blasting fundamental concepts that are critical to achieving optimal rock breaking outcomes. All industry stakeholders - those keen to learn more about drilling and blasting in underground mines. Project Sponsors: Barrick Gold of Australia; BHP Billiton Olympic Dam; Dyno Nobel Asia Pacific; Gold Fields Australasia; Newmont Asia Pacific; Orica Mining Services; Xstrata Zinc.

Let's Blast!

05:00
NOTE: Although this video shows an up-close look at the blasting process, NEVER go near an active surface mine or blast site without Federal training and permission. FYI, the white bags are Emulsified Ammonium Nitrate. The read cap is TNT and the silver rod that is connected to it by the yellow wire is the blasting cap, it's what ignites the shot. The white pebbles that are emptied into the blast holes by the powder trucks are the main explosive- "ANFO" or Ammonium Nitrate, which is a mixture of fertilizer and diesel fuel. Once the holes are filled with explosives, rock fines or "stemming" is pushed back in the holes and packed down to keep the explosives under pressure. After all the holes are loaded and rigged up, it's time for the fireworks! And remember kids, don't try this at home! Want to see more Blasting? Deswik SO - Underground stope shape optimization

01:20
Underground stope shape optimization using the industry-leading MSO. A strategic mine planning tool, Deswik.SO automates stoping design for a range of methods used in underground mines. Able to quickly analyze stoping methods and parameters for a defined geological block model, you’ll maximize the value of your ore body and develop a strategic plan assessed against a variety of approaches and constraints. Built around the AMS Mineable Shape Optimizer, the tool allows you to define numerous properties for the stopes including; general shape and orientation, cut-off grade, cost and revenue, pillar sizes, dilution, mining limits and waste ratios. The scenario management tools allow multiple mining options to be considered and compared rapidly, generating output reports that let you optimize for your best case. Fully integrated into Deswik.CAD, output stope wireframes and section strings can be directly incorporated into the Deswik mine planning process. For more information, go to www.deswik.com

What is TRADITIONAL MINING? What does TRADITIONAL MINING mean? TRADITION MINING meaning

What is TRADITIONAL MINING? What does TRADITIONAL MINING mean? TRADITION MINING meaning - TRADITIONAL MINING definition - TRADITIONAL MINING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Traditional mining, also known as old-school mining, is a mining method involving the use of simple manual tools, such as shovels, pickaxes, hammers, chisels and pans. It is done in both surface and underground environments. Until the early 1900s, traditional mining was widely used throughout the world. It is still a used mining method in some countries, including Colombia and Peru in South America and Niger in Africa. In traditional surface and underground mining, hammers and chisels with pickaxes and shovels are used. Minecarts are used to move ore and other materials in the process of mining. Pans are used for placer mining operations, such as gold panning. The traditional method of cracking rock was fire-setting, which involved heating the rock with fire to expand it. Once the rock was heated by fire it was quenched with water to break it. Fire-setting was one of the most effective rock breaking methods until 1867 when Alfred Nobel invented dynamite. Traditional mining operations have created some of the largest handmade features on Earth, such as the Big Hole open pit mine in South Africa, which is claimed to be the largest hole on Earth excavated by hand.

Going Deep Underground in the Lida Mountain Mine

05:11
I've been wanting to explore the Lida Mountain Mine on my last two solo trips in Nevada. So this time I finally did it. The Lida Mountain Mine is a complex, multi-level mine with thousands of feet of workings. Some recent research revealed the fact that a mining company has submitted paperwork to Nevada to start an open-pit mine at the site sometime in the next year or so. This means the entire mountain will be dug out over the course of several years which will result in the obliteration of the mine's many tunnels and levels.
