How to Invest in Foreign Currencies

Watch more How to Invest Your Money videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/234001-How-to-Invest-in-Foreign-Currencies As with any investment, putting your money in foreign markets requires due diligence and the willingness to take risks. Step 1: Know the risks Know the risks. Trading in foreign currencies can be very profitable if you stay on top of the global economic market. But if you don't have the time or desire to do that, it also can be very risky. Step 2: Do your homework Do your homework. Research the financial strength of various nations so you'll have an informed opinion as to whether their currency will strengthen or weaken. Step 3: Open an account You can invest in foreign currency using a brokerage account, if you have one. If you have a PayPal account, hold funds in multiple currencies at no charge. Or find a bank that allows customers to keep foreign currency accounts. Tip Some banks offer FDIC-insured foreign currency accounts; this protects you up to a preset amount if a foreign bank goes bust, but doesn't cover losses caused by currency fluctuations. Step 4: Try a single play Consider buying a Certificate of Deposit in a foreign market with a better interest rate; then "sell it forward" -- you agree to sell the same amount of currency at a specific price on a future date. Known as a "single play," this protects you if the currency deflates during the duration of your CD. Step 5: Consider a double play Open a CD and gamble on a "double play," also known as an "open" or "naked" trade. If the foreign currency rises, you'll benefit both from the interest rate and the foreign currency being stronger than your own when you cash in. Just beware that you're also assuming the risk that the currency might deflate, which could wipe out the interest you made at cash-in time. Step 6: Wheel and deal Set up an online account on one of the Forex -- short for Foreign Exchange -- trading web sites. You'll be able to buy and sell foreign currencies anytime from Sunday at 5 p.m. eastern time to Friday at 5 p.m. eastern time, allowing you to cash in quickly on events that are likely to cause currency fluctuations. Did You Know? More than $1 trillion is traded in the global currency market every day.

The ABSOLUTE Best Investments [for 2019 and beyond]

16:11
With 2018 almost over, today we are going to talk about the 7 best investments that you can put your money in, in the new year. 📆 If you stick around to the end, I am going to share the top things that I am going to invest in. ➡️1. The stock market [1:42] - You don’t have to invest all of your money into the market right now, but it makes sense to buy in over the year. ➡️2. Real Estate [3:27] - There are so many ways to invest: rental property, AirBnB, repair and resell properties, crowdfunding, etc. ➡️3. Peer-to-Peer Lending [5:45] - This will offer a more consistent return - more like investing in a bond. ➡️4. Your Career [6:52] - This could be getting a certification, a degree, or a business coach. The investment in yourself could net a raise, a promotion, or growth in your business. ➡️5. Your first side hustle [8:15] - This is the best way to job proof your income. If done correctly you can build a great passive income generating asset. ➡️6. Your health [9:52] - Are you working out as much as you should? Are you eating healthy? ➡️7. Pay off that debt [11:30] - This is the greatest guaranteed return you will ever get. Focus on paying off all of those high interest accounts, ‼️ So what am I going to invest in in 2019? If you watched the video until the end, I'll share this with you! ‼️ How are you going to invest your money? 🤔 Are you going to be trying any of these 7 options, or maybe you already are? Skip Your Bank! These 7 Options Will Make You MUCH More Money.

17:49
Let’s see if this sounds familiar….you have some money sitting in a savings account and it is probably making next to nothing. If you are not really sure what to do, you have several options. 🤔 You can go to a bank and stick it in a savings or money market account, chances are they are not going to pay you anything. If there were, you wouldn’t be watching this video. With that in mind, I want to talk about 7 alternatives to placing you savings into a bank. 🏦 I am also going to share a client story with you about where a client was keeping his cash. (You won’t believe where he was keeping it or how much he was keeping there!) So let's dive right into your options: ➡️ Online savings [1:10] - Any sort of online savings or bank account (just make sure they have FDIC). They have a lot less overhead than traditional brick and mortar - this could mean higher interest rates. ➡️ US Treasuries (TBills) [3:54] - It may seem a little old school - but you can do all of this online. ➡️ High Dividend Stocks [4:42] - This is a little higher risk and not somewhere you want short-term money. Just because a stock pays a dividend doesn’t mean it won’t drop in value. ➡️ Bonds [6:27] - You are most likely not going to buy individual bonds, but rather bond mutual funds. I would suggest ETFs, just remember higher yield = higher risk. ➡️ Blended Portfolio [9:30] - This would be a mix of stocks and bonds, and utilizing ETFs to get this blend. You can utilize a platform like Betterment or Wealthfront. 🤯 Before we get to the last two, I want to tell you about this client ...he had $140,000 in a safe in his basement. I can’t remember how long he had this cash sitting there, but I thought it was crazy. Sitting there, making nothing for him. This is an option that you DO NOT pick.🤯 ➡️ Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) [12:14] - This is a way to invest in real estate without managing properties. You can buy these many different ways, the simplest is to buy a REIT ETF. Another is online real estate investing, my favorite platform for this is Fundrise. ➡️ Peer-To-Peer Lending [14:25] - This allows YOU to be the bank. You are lending money to other peers. The great thing is, you can see their reasons for borrowing. This allows you to set your risk level. That is my top 7 alternatives to bank accounts. You can pick as many or as few of these options as you like. I just wanted to share that there is more than one way to invest and earn interest. Which options sounds the most attractive to you? Are you already using one or more of these options? Let us know how this is going for you. ★☆★Resources Mentioned in Video★☆★ 📉 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/fundrise-youtube-invest-500.php 📉https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/lendingclubinv-youtube-get-started-with-lc.php 📈 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/betterment-youtube-invest-500.php 📉 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/ally-youtube-invest-500.php 📉 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/etrade-youtube-invest-500.php ★☆★ Want More Good Financial Cents? ★☆★ 💻 Check out my blog here: https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/ Listen to my podcast here: 🎙 https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/good-financial-cents-podcast-investing-building-wealth/id775107294?mt=2 Pick up my best selling book, Soldier of Finance, here: 📗 http://amzn.to/2xOH78V Connect with me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/jjeffrose My most favorite inspiration T-shirt line, Compete Every Day: 👕 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/compete

The Different Ways to Trade Currencies

currency online trading stock trade foreign exchange traders cfd trading trade stocks stock trader online stock trading forex demo accounts forex trading uk trading stocks stock trading The Different Ways to Trade Currencies Along with deciding on a trading technique and a currency couple, investors also need to pick a market in which will to trade currencies. Presently there are several different market segments offered to trade currencies which includes the Foreign exchange, derivatives marketplaces and exchange-traded funds. Right here is a brief explanation of each market. Fx Trading Most of forex trading takes place in the Forex spot industry. In this market, significant banks and other banking institutions trade currencies among themselves either for immediate delivery (spot market) or intended for settlement at an after date (forward market). Trading in the Forex industry occur non-prescription, and the minimum size of the trades is very huge. During the past it has recently been impractical for individual traders to trade in the Foreign exchange for these factors. However, over the earlier many years, a new selling Forex market is rolling out. This kind of market allows individual buyers and small institutions to trade in the Fx market with smaller quantities than those that had been recently available. Derivatives Market segments Derivatives include futures, options and exotic, customizable derivative legal agreements. The more exotic derivatives usually are suitable for institutional traders, while individual investors typically trade futures and alternatives. The most popular money pairs have both coins contracts and options upon those futures contracts. Person investors are able to buy or sell the futures or the alternatives to take a location on the direction of the currency pair. These kinds of futures and options generally feature reasonably good fluid, transparent pricing and medium capital requirements. For these kinds of reasons, futures or choices are a viable personal preference for individual investors considering the currency market. When ever using futures or alternatives, it's very crucial to appreciate the risks involved in using these financial musical instruments. Despite the fact that large gains will be possible, the majority of investors using these stock options eventually lose money. Coins contracts also carry the likelihood of potentially unrestricted losses. Investors should thoroughly consider their risk ceiling and thoroughly understand possibly adverse price movements, just before considering a futures trading strategy. Exchange Traded Money (ETFs) ETFs have recently been popular vehicles for traffic monitoring stock and bond search engine spiders for years, however, they can be a relatively new addition to the world of trading currency. A currency ETF are available and sold merely like any other inventory. An investor who feels a currency is regarding to rise in expense should buy the ETF. Alternatively, an investor whom believes a currency can decline in value ought to sell the ETF. A great advantage to trading ETFs is that they happen to be more familiar to the average investor compared to the Forex or derivatives markets. ETFs also take stricter margin requirements, thus they could appeal to even more risk-averse investors.

STOCKS THAT WILL DOUBLE YOUR MONEY! (Value Investing)

Why Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae Stocks Are Potential 10-Baggers, 10x, or 10 times your money Is the upside in FNMA and FMCC gigantic? During the mortgage crisis, Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA) and Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp (FMCC) had to be bailed out by the government or so we were told. The U.S. government dumped $187 billion into the agencies. In exchange, it was given warrants to buy 79% of the companies, and the investment (which was in preferred stock) would earn 10% of the agencies’ net profits each quarter. Then the Treasury Department, in an arguably illegal and unconstitutional move, changed the rules so it would sweep out all the net profits of the agencies. The idea was that since FNMA and FMCC as companies were in a death spiral, or so it appeared, and the thinking by the Treasury Department was protecting taxpayer money by taking all the profits and making sure it didn’t have to throw new capital at another bailout. At least, that was the idea. Instead, to the surprise of no one considering this was a move by the government, it actually puts FNMA and FMCC in worse shape since they are being stripped of their capital. The result is FNMA and FMCC are now backstopping some $5 trillion in mortgage debt and have no capital. Moreover, while FNMA and FMCC are controlled by the government, it is actually via a conservatorship which is only supposed to last until the companies are in “sound and solvent condition.” Investors are arguing that FNMA/FMCC have not only repaid taxpayers, but the two companies were stolen from investors. Various lawsuits addressing one of the largest cases of thievery in the United States history have challenged this have been shot down so far, but investors remain hopeful. Not only are FNMA/FMCC profitable now, but they are turning a large profit. U.S. taxpayers have now received back over $260 billion on the $187 billion investment — a $73 billion profit, or 40%. Remember that the companies were only supposed to be in government conservatorship until they achieved “sound and solvent condition.” What many are pushing for, including hedge fund managers Bill Ackman and Bruce Berkowitz, is for the government to recapitalize FNMA and FMCC. Let the companies do their jobs again, with proper reform. Ackman’s proposal to reform FNMA and FMCC suggests possibly future value for them between $23 and $47 per share. And now, there is finally serious talk of reform going on in Congress. Senators Corker and Warner have a proposal that would keep Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac but create competitors, as well as create an explicit guarantee from the government on mortgage bonds that are created under reform. Congressman Hensarling indicated he’d be open to a government guarantee on some mortgage bonds but didn’t want it to be terribly large. New competitors would have to have stress tests and sell off some of the risks to private investors. What are the potential outcomes for FNMA stock and FMCC stock? Steve Mnuchin the United States treasury secretary believes FNMA/FMCC are a 2019 story. Steve Mnuchin has already stated he wants to take FNMA/FMCC out of conservatorship. Yes common shareholders could be wiped out because there are preferred shareholders ahead of them. There is a possibility for the shares to go to zero, BUT we aren’t talking about betting the farm here. When the numbers are broken down the United States stole Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac a private company FROM shareholders who still haven’t received compensation. Taxpayers have already turned a massive profit on the bail out by the U.S. government that many argue was unnecessary in the first place. As the clock continues ticking I believe we are getting close to a resolution one way or the other. It’s all or nothing with an investment in FNMA/FMCC and I view the two stocks as options contracts that are skewed in our favor. The only difference is we aren’t paying a huge time premium. Throwing even a couple hundred dollars into these companies and forgetting about it may well be worth the risk because they may potentially be 10 baggers. President Donald Trump said freeing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from government control is a “pretty urgent problem” that his administration plans to work with Congress to address. Trump, speaking Friday at a conference hosted by the National Association of Realtors, said that the mortgage giants lack competition, that taxpayers remain on the hook for any losses at the companies and that they aren’t being run as well as they could be. He added that his administration is discussing ideas for fixing Fannie and Freddie with “some incredible talent from Wall Street.” Best Growth Stocks 2019. Best Growth Stocks 2019. 10 Rules for Investing in a Bear Market! 🐻

09:35
10 Rules for Investing in a Bear Market http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/strategies/strategies-tips.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! Bear markets sometimes come along and they can be brutal. For the active trader they can offer plenty of trading opportunities, for investors it can be more challenging. This are tips on how to improve your performance in a bear market. 1) Ignore analysts and tips - these are irrelevant now. All kind of logic gets out of the window in brutal bear markets. People and funds sell equities because they have to or because the selling is emotionally-driven. 2) Look to defensive stocks. Defensive shares might not go down that much... 3) Consider cash or hedging (short/ETFS). 4) Don't buy on margin. If you buy on margin and you get it wrong and it keeps going down it can be very damaging. 5) Be careful of falling into the 'selling is done' trap. 6) Don't buy as soon as you see green days. 7) Most stocks follow the markets. 8) Sell bad positions. This is not the way to get in love with positions. 9) Think long term. 10) Consider scaling into positions. ETF Investing Australia 2019 — Ethical Investing?

06:53
In this video, I’m going to tell you about my current Australian ETF allocation for 2019. Last year, as you may have seen in my other videos, my first crack at ETF investing involved 25% in Vanguard’s VAS (an ETF that gives you a low-cost exposure to the top 300 Australian companies), 25% VAE (a good way to invest in the Asian markets, excluding Japan), 25% VGAD and 25% VGS (both of which provide a low-cost way of investing in the world’s largest companies, the only difference being that VGAD is hedged to Australian dollars to counter the effects of currency fluctuations). After visiting China over the new year, I came back to Australia thinking that I didn’t want to invest too heavily in Asia anymore. Not because it’s a bad investment choice — not at all — but the turbulence involved in the Asian markets of late have put me off somewhat. I also decided, in the name of keeping things simple, that I would simplify my entire international portfolio. Instead of having three ETFs, I would cut that down to one — VESG. That is, the Vanguard Ethically Conscious International Shares Index ETF. It excludes securities with significant business activities involving fossil fuels, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, military weapons and civilian firearms, nuclear power and adult entertainment. It has a decent management fee of 0.18%. Combined with VAS’s fee of 0.14%, this is a very low-cost portfolio with investment in both Australian and global companies. I chose to increase my exposure to the Australian markets to 35%, mainly because most advisers recommend approximately this amount. This is mainly due to Australian franking credits which are basically a tax rebate to shareholders who receive dividends which have already incurred company tax. It’s used to prevent “double taxation”. Looking at the top holdings of VESG, we can see that many of the big American and European companies are represented. Some of you might be asking, “Are these companies really ethical?”, and I would say, “No, they’re probably not” — well at least, not in the strictest sense of the word. When it comes to ethical investing, ultimately it comes down to what the investment company define as ethical. In this case, Vanguard have decided that fossil fuels, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, firearms, nuclear power and adult entertainment, are not ethical. As you may have seen in my recent video titled, “Amazon Australia Warehouse Worker Drones — People Pretending to Be Robots” (https://youtu.be/ozkF1eW1elE), companies can be unethical without involving themselves in gambling, firearms, and tobacco. If you treat your workers poorly, then in my opinion, you’re not very ethical. However, if we’re too strict on ourselves about ethical investment, then in all honesty, we wouldn’t invest. The capitalist world that we live in, is — by it’s very nature — exploitative. The only benefit I see in choosing a so-called “ethical” ETF is to send a message to the big companies. If enough people send that same message, then eventually companies will listen and slowly change their practices to meet investor demand. And that’s what this ultimately boils down to — supply and demand. Anyway, if you don’t care about the whole ethics of investing, then you could easily swap out VESG for VGS — Vanguard MSCI Index International Shares ETF. Don’t get me wrong, VGS is a great investment. If you don’t care about the ethics, then this would be a perfectly good investment option. Taking a look at the top 10 holdings in VGS, it looks very similar to VESG. Comparing them side-by-side, they’re almost identical. In terms of returns, VAS has performed at an average of 7.62% p.a. since I first bought it back in January 2018. That’s pretty decent considering that last year was a fairly turbulent ride. It should be noted that I used dollar-cost averaging throughout the year, that is, I actually made six separate “buy” orders of VAS of about $5000 each at fairly regular intervals throughout 2018. With regard to VESG, I only bought into it this year in January and I’ve already had average returns of 42.15% p.a. That’s not because I’m a genius or anything, that’s just because I got lucky. I know that VAS still has a lot of unethical companies in there, so Vanguard, if you’re listening, an Australian ethical option would be fantastic. So what are your thoughts? Does ethical investment catch you fancy? Does investing ethically actually motivate companies to be good corporate citizens? Or is it just one big pile of BS? Let me know below. What's the best-performing ETF?

03:46
Be careful buying an ETF based on its past performance, because the future could be as unpredictable as the weather. Instead, consider integrating ETFs into a diversified portfolio, keeping in mind that asset allocation is the top driver of a portfolio's performance. Find a balance of stock and bond ETFs that's right for you, and spread your money across U.S. and international ETFs to diversify even more. Then look for low-cost ETFs so you're not giving up performance to high expense ratios. Important information **You must buy and sell Vanguard ETF Shares through Vanguard Brokerage Services (we offer them commission-free) or through another broker (which may charge commissions). See the Vanguard Brokerage Services commission and fee schedules at https://vgi.vg/2HJm1xu for limits. Vanguard ETF Shares are not redeemable directly with the issuing fund other than in very large aggregations worth millions of dollars. ETFs are subject to market volatility. When buying or selling an ETF, you will pay or receive the current market price, which may be more or less than net asset value.** All investing is subject to risk, including the possible loss of the money you invest. Diversification does not ensure a profit or protect against a loss. Fluctuations in the financial markets and other factors may cause declines in the value of your account. There is no guarantee that any particular asset allocation or mix of funds will meet your investment objectives or provide you with a given level of income. Investments in securities issued by non-U.S. companies are subject to risks including country/regional risk and currency risk. These risks can be especially high in emerging markets. Sector ETFs are subject to sector risks and nondiversification risks, which may result in performance fluctuations that are more extreme than fluctuations in the overall stock market. Bond ETFs are subject to interest rate, inflation, and credit risk. © 2018 The Vanguard Group, Inc. All rights reserved. Vanguard Marketing Corporation, Distributor of the Vanguard Funds.

TEN DIVIDEND STOCKS I'M BUYING RIGHT NOW

33:46
Today's video covers my top 10 dividend stock picks for 2018 and beyond! These are ten stocks I'm personally buying right now. Oftentimes, I receive questions here on my channel about which dividend paying stocks I'm buying. This video not only covers the specific stock picks, but my framework and strategy that helps me know which ones to buy at any given time. Everything is presented through the lens of my three tiered system. Under tier 1 (bucket 1), I am purchasing strategic stocks that I pick at the beginning of each year. For 2018, my three strategic stocks are Procter & Gamble (PG), Kimberly-Clark (KMB), and PepsiCo (PEP). These are so strategic for me because they are core positions, with amazing starting dividend yields, that are currently on sale. It doesn't get much better than that. I love having strategic themes for the year, because it keeps me focused. Tier 2 (bucket 2) are those stocks that I'm bringing to the right size in my portfolio. I have a variety of stocks in my portfolio that are just not at their right size (based on percentage of dollars allocated to them). Since I rarely sell (very, very rarely), I have to add more money to certain positions over time to "right size" them. Right now, in 2018, I'm buying General Mills (GIS), McDonald's (MCD), PepsiCo (PEP), and United Technologies (UTX) to bring them to their appropriate size. This part of the video is one of my favorites because I recently made the bold decisions to buy more MCD and UTX, despite fair valuations (they are not on sale, by any stretch of the imagination). Tier 3 (bucket 3) are my special opportunity stocks. The great thing about owning 37 dividend paying stocks is certain ones go on sale from time-to-time. Right now, I'm seeing great value in Southern Company (SO), 3M (MMM), Campbells Soup (CPB), and Starbucks (SBUX). While not all of these are core positions (CPB, for example, will always be a small position), they all play an important role on the team. When a dividend stock sale presents itself, I'm all over it! Some of my favorite takeaways from today's video about my dividend stock picks: * Learn about 10 of my favorite dividend stocks. * See my logic-based framework to see how I allocate investment dollars. * Despite a richly-priced market, see how I'm finding opportunities out there in dividend paying stocks. * Learn why I love a great stock sale. * More! Are consumer non-cyclical stocks over? I don't think so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye-JNj1aZcE I'm buying Procter & Gamble and Kimberly-Clark (KMB) in 2018: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGRmIeiep1g I love PepsiCo (PEP). It's my #2 favorite stock of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFjUoFWEC44 I think General Mills (GIS) is fantastic. Here's my video about General Dividend-Tastic Mills: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z12Ac83Nz0Q I'm buying McDonald's (MCD), my #3 favorite stock of all time. Learn all about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA1baKYgV_0 I'm buying United Technologies (UTX), my #4 favorite stock of all time. I'm bringing this stock to the right size within my portfolio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV8Txpw-qHA I'm all about Southern Company in 2018 at current dividend yields: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW_jAVvhEqw I finally invested in 3M Company (MMM) in 2018: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHRm9kdbXJo Campbells Soup (CPB) is trading at an attractive forward PE. I'm adding more to my personal stock portfolio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc-UgCLTlUg Starbucks (SBUX) is on sale. I'll be adding more to my position shortly! Great time to add to this dividend stock, in my opinion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mzAFuew8Tw Want to learn about my stock portfolio composition? Here's how I classify dividend stocks as small, medium, and large: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ybS8GQl_vA I sold my stock in Dr Pepper Snapple, a very rare occurrence. Learn how I redeployed my gains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8npn2NqbzA Disclosure: I am long Procter & Gamble (PG), Kimberly-Clark (KMB), PepsiCo (PEP), General Mills (GIS), McDonald’s (MCD), United Technologies (UTX), Southern Company (SO), 3M (MMM), Campbell's Soup (CPB), and Starbucks (SBUX). Australian ETF Selection (Vanguard)

06:49
Today I’m talking about Australian ETF Selection with a focus on Vanguard ETFs. I’ve only recently started investing in ETFs – actually, I only started earlier this year – and I think that ultimately ETFs will be the main part of my portfolio. So what’s an ETF? An ETF is an Exchange Traded Fund, that is, it’s an investment fund that is traded on a securities exchange market like the Australian ASX. They’re typically a diversified portfolio of securities that track a particular asset or index (although, there are actively managed ETFs as well that try to outperform the given market or index). So for example, VTS – Vanguard U.S. Total Market Shares Index ETF seeks to track the performance of the CRSP US Total Market Index, providing investors with exposure to a broadly diversified collection of securities that, in the aggregate, approximates the full index in terms of key characteristics. As we can see here, VTS is made up of 3638 holdings where the top 10 represent 17.2% of the total ETF. Companies like Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, and Facebook. So in this video, I’m going to specifically talk about which ETFs I chose and the reasons behind those decisions. First of all, I decided to buy only Vanguard ETFs. Vanguard is one of the big players and typically has low fees and a solid performance history for their index funds. I believe they were the first ones to come up with the whole idea of indexing. You can take a look for yourself at the full list of Vanguard ETFs. They include ETFs for fixed interest, property, Australian shares, international shares, and their own diversified ETFs which are made up of various proportions of the previous four categories. MY FINAL ETF PORTFOLIO 25% VAS, 25% VGS and VGAD, and 25% VAE. That covers Australia, North America, Europe and Asia. I’m planning to stick with this allocation for at least the next few years. With ETFs, you really have to. Even though they’re tradeable on the stock exchange, you’ve got to treat them like a long term investment. So if their value goes down in the short term, don’t sell them – you’d only be locking in a loss. My TOP 5 Biggest Investing MISTAKES (Stock Market & Money Mistakes To Avoid)

29:12
With 20+ years of stock market experience and a portfolio of 36 dividend-paying stocks, it may seem like investing and personal finance come easy for me. While I've always had a huge passion for investing and I had the incredible fortune of starting young, I have absolutely made my fair share of mistakes over the years. Thankfully, I have learned great lessons from each mistake. Today's video highlights my top 5 stock market (and personal finance) mistakes, with the goal of inspiring others and sharing valuable lessons learned. When I first got started, I had an incredible interest in dividend-paying stocks from the beginning. That has always been my baseline strategy. However, over the years I have experienced my fair share of distractions the wasted time, capital, and focus. In particular, today's video covers: * My experience getting started with stock market investing in the 1990s. * My mistake getting pulled into the "get rich quick" allure of penny stock trading, and the lessons I learned about "making fast money". * My mistake diving into the exciting space of fiber optics during a tech market bubble, and why "buy low, sell high" just doesn't make sense to me. * My mistake falling for a dividend stock yield trap in the mortgage REIT sector, during the height of the subprime mortgage era. This one taught me great lessons about payout ratios and investing in companies that can sustainably pay and increase dividends over the long term. * My experience buying a car way above my means (a BMW M3 Convertible), and how I quickly learned the importance of being frugal in one's personal finances. * My recent mistake buying a dividend paying stock that everyone was talking about. This is why I greatly prefer to generate my own investment ideas! And, this is why I love to diversify my portfolio. At the end of the day, investing is a process. Right around 2008, I truly figured things out and went all in on my dividend strategy. Sure, I had a baseline in dividends all along, but this is when I really "got it" in a big way, and let go of the distractions. I know I'll make more mistakes from time-to-time, but also know that mistakes are just part of the process and should be embraced for their educational value. More than anything, I truly hope you found today's video motivating! Want to learn more about my history as a dividend stock investor? My Relationship With MONEY (Dividend Investing Vs. Saving Money Vs. Spending)

20:46
Today, I want to share my thoughts about money. I want to discuss my relationship with money and how I think about investing in the stock market (dividend paying stocks) versus saving money in the bank versus spending money. Ultimately, I have concluded that investing in dividend stocks is the best possible use of my money, as saving and spending are both losing strategies (for me). This video starts with some practical examples about spending money. I share the example of a pair of shoes that just "broke". I spent money and I realized a 100% loss. I also share some examples of things breaking that are fixable (my fireplace and refrigerator, which are both now fixed). When one buys stuff, the items are typically either a loss (like the shoes), or they will break and need to be fixed (like the fireplace and refrigerator). Spending certainly is not a solid investment strategy. Next, I discuss saving money in the bank. In my opinion, money in the bank is also a losing strategy. With low interest rates, the value of savings erodes over time (it does not keep up with inflation). Moreover, money sitting around requires huge self-control. It's so tempting to spend! I have personally faced challenges letting it be (vs. being tempted to spend such money). It's easy for money to move from the savings bucket to the spending bucket. The last bucket, my favorite, is dividend stocks. Dividend stocks grow in value over time. They offer a stream of dividends and also capital appreciation. The stream of dividends is quite rewarding and motivating, so one is enticed to hold for the long term. In fact, buying more dividend stocks has positive reinforcement built in! For me, I have concluded that spending and saving don't make much sense for me (when I can avoid it). Rather, I like to go all in with dividend stocks. (Of course, I do enjoy buying the necessities, splurging once in a while, and saving a small but growing emergency fund.) Given this holistic picture on money, I am so confused as to why investors (both new and seasoned) get scared about "losing money" in the stock market. I guess I get it for "buy low, sell high" investors. (That is a strategy that just does not make sense for me as I'm buying to hold forever, to enjoy the dividends.) When one invests for dividends (as long as the fundamentals are strong), it's my belief that one cannot really lose in the long run. Taking a step back and looking at the alternatives (spending money or saving money), the concern over losing money in the market drops even more! If you enjoyed the video today, I please invite you to like, subscribe, and/or comment. Your support means the world to me! Also, I invite you to connect with me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ianlopuch/ Last, I want to share the other PPC Ian videos mentioned in today's video. This video shares how I approached the situation (with a frugal mindset): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yrizl8TxJhg Want to learn how I have historically been "all in" when it comes to dividend stocks? Here's a fun video on this very topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHAlpQCWAhw Want to learn more about my big budgeting mistake of buying a M3 Convertible? Want to learn from my top 5 money and personal finance challenges? This video is a really fun one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC-pQ56FlK4 Disclosure: I am long Clorox (CLX). Should You Currency Hedge Your Portfolio? | Common Sense Investment with Ben Felix

This video is in response to a question from abe on LinkedIN. Abe wanted to know if he should hedge the foreign currency exposure of his equities when the Canadian dollar is weak. There is no question that investing globally is beneficial. Diversification is the best way to increase your expected returns while decreasing your expected volatility. Diversification is, after all, known as the only free lunch in investing. When you decide to own assets all over the world, you are not just getting exposure to foreign companies, but also to foreign currencies. I’m Ben Felix, Associate Portfolio Manager at PWL Capital. In this episode of Common Sense Investing, I’m going to help you decide if you should currency hedge your portfolio. ------------------ Visit PWL Capital: https://goo.gl/uPcXg7 Follow PWL Capital on: - Twitter: https://twitter.com/PWLCapital - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PWLCapital - LinkedIN: https://www.linkedin.com/company-beta/105673/ Follow Ben Felix on - Twitter: https://twitter.com/benjaminwfelix -LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/benjaminwfelix/

Currency ETF

01:24
http://www.cakefinancial.com You may have heard about currency trading, but chances are you haven’t done it. That’s because currency trading is tough for the non-professional investor, since it requires a sophisticated understanding of subtle fluctuations between world currencies. In 2005, however, one investment firm made it a little easier to trade currencies by launching the first currency exchange-traded fund. An exchange-traded fund, ETF for short, is an investment vehicle. Like a mutual fund, it holds assets, such as stocks or bonds. But unlike a mutual fund, it trades on an exchange, like a stock. A currency ETF—and there are many today—is simply an ETF that invests in a currency, such as the U.S. dollar, the euro, the Japanese yen and even the Swedish krona. Why consider a currency ETF? In part because it can be used to hedge against the falling U.S. dollar—which many investors consider an increasing problem. The Best Way to Manage Your Investments. http://www.cakefinancial.com

11:30
Genevieve Wood from OpenMarkets sits down with Emma Kirk from Magellan Asset Management to discuss Magellan’s three global Active ETFs available on the ASX: • MGE – Magellan Global Equities Fund (Managed Fund) • MHG - Magellan Global Equities Fund (Currency Hedged) (Managed Fund) • MICH - Magellan Infrastructure Fund (Currency Hedged) (Managed Fund) Emma shares their investment approach and the top stocks/sectors Magellan are currently favouring. Magellan pioneered the Active ETF in Australia (and the world) in 2015 and since then there has been other reputable Australian fund managers follow suit. Listen to this interview and how to go about investing in China. Now, the interviewer constantly pushes the idea of buying the S&P 500 index because we don’t know China, China is risky but Munger straightforwardly says that everybody can find 4 or 5 good companies to invest in China. GOOD COMPANIES – index funds don’t offer that – they offer the average If you have 5 good companies in china, 5 in the us and another 5 in the world you will have a great return and be globally diversified, that is what all of those who don’t want to bother have to do, just buy good companies and forget about it, not index funds.
