Tougher In Alaska Season One - Trailer

00:52
Buy the DVD here: http://www.goentertain.tv/product/tougher-in-alaska-complete-season-1 Forget the snow, the cold and the wild bears: the toughest things you'll find in Alaska are the people! In the bitterly cold, extreme landscape of Alaska, there are huge challenges associated with jobs that we often take for granted. From taking out the rubbish to commuting to work, daily tasks for ordinary people take on a new meaning in the face of the unforgiving environment. Now, native Alaskan Geo Beach takes a closer look at the lives of those people who sign up for some of the biggest challenges the frozen north can throw at them: gold miners blasting through rock in sub-zero temperatures searching for new fortunes; heli-loggers that fly to almost inaccessible areas for fresh supplies of timber; and troopers who patrol areas the size of entire states. Even the garbage collectors must face the challenge of doing their rounds before the local black bears can get into the bins! Take a fresh look at the beautiful, rugged and majestic landscape of Alaska in the company of some of state's hardest working -- and often most eccentric -- residents. To survive and thrive amid the imposing terrain takes a special kind of person. Just like the weather, the conditions and the lifestyle, the people you meet really are Tougher In Alaska!

Nolan Mine

12:28
Silverado owns a 100 percent interest in numerous mining claims on the Nolan Creek property, consisting of 204 unpatented Federal placer mining claims and 407 unpatented Federal lode mining claims, which are located 280 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska in the historic Koyukuk Mining District. Access is by the Dalton highway six hours from Fairbanks, Alaska to Wiseman and then by seven miles of well-maintained road to the 12 square mile property, or by air 1 hour and 15 minutes to Coldfoot and a 40 minute drive to the property. Since the discovery of placer deposits in the Nolan Creek/Hammond River area in 1897, recorded gold recovery totals almost 200,000 ounces of placer or nugget gold. The largest portion of this recovery stems from Nolan Creek and its tributaries and benches. The Company has also optioned property that covers the adjoining Hammond River placer deposits, and potential lode sources.

Whitehorse, Yukon Territory (Tourism Documentary)

01:24
Recommended Resources A Walking Tour of Whitehorse, Yukon http://amzn.to/2H9WC0l Whitehorse Map http://amzn.to/2nUX6j0 Yukon Territory (Exploring Canada) http://amzn.to/2EAt3Xd Whitehorse, Yukon Territory is a great place to visit to learn about Klondike Gold Rush history, and check out a sternwheeler. Dawson City is a little ways north of Whitehorse and has a lot a great historical sites. "The Klondike Gold Rush[n 1] was a migration by an estimated 100,000 prospectors to the Klondike region of the Yukon in north-western Canada between 1896 and 1899. Gold was discovered there by local miners on August 16, 1896, and, when news reached Seattle and San Francisco the following year, it triggered a stampede of prospectors. Some became wealthy, but the majority went in vain. It has been immortalized in photographs, books, films, and artifacts. To reach the gold fields, most took the route through the ports of Dyea and Skagway in Southeast Alaska. Here, the Klondikers could follow either the Chilkoot or the White Pass trails to the Yukon River and sail down to the Klondike. Each of them was required to bring a year's supply of food by the Canadian authorities in order to prevent starvation. In all, their equipment weighed close to a ton, which for most had to be carried in stages by themselves. Together with mountainous terrain and cold climate, this meant that those who persisted did not arrive until summer 1898. Once there, they found few opportunities, and many left disappointed. Mining was challenging as the ore was distributed in an uneven manner and digging was made slow by permafrost. As a result, some miners chose to buy and sell claims, building up huge investments and letting others do the work. To accommodate the prospectors, boom towns sprang up along the routes and at their end Dawson City was founded at the confluence of the Klondike and the Yukon River. From a population of 500 in 1896, the town grew to house around 30,000 people by summer 1898. Built of wood, isolated and unsanitary, Dawson suffered from fires, high prices, and epidemics. Despite this, the wealthiest prospectors spent extravagantly gambling and drinking in the saloons. The Native Hän people, on the other hand, suffered from the rush, being moved into a reserve to make way for the stampeders, and many died. From 1898, the newspapers that had encouraged so many to travel to the Klondike lost interest in it. In the summer of 1899, gold was discovered around Nome in west Alaska, and many prospectors left the Klondike for the new goldfields, marking the end of the rush. The boom towns declined and the population of Dawson City fell. Gold mining activity lasted until 1903 when production peaked after heavier equipment was brought in. Since then the Klondike has been mined on and off, and today the legacy draws tourists to the region and contributes to its prosperity." 7 Facts about Yukon

In this video you can find seven little known facts about Yukon. Keep watching and subscribe, as more Canadian territories will follow! You can now support this channel via Patreon, by accessing the link bellow. Thank you! https://www.patreon.com/7facts Learn, Share, Subscribe US States & Territories https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbZJ71IJGFRT2EjuHJUt4-YZ59SZNc8ch 206 Countries in One Series https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbZJ71IJGFRR54b-LlPPw6YcUFiBEEP6G Social Media: https://twitter.com/Sebastian2Go https://www.facebook.com/official7facts ------------------------------------------------ More information about the video content bellow: 1. Yukon is the smallest and westernmost of Canada's three federal territories (the other two are the Northwest Territories and Nunavut). The territory has the smallest population of any province or territory in Canada, with 35,874 people. Though officially bilingual (English and French), the Yukon Government also recognizes First Nations languages. 2. The territory was split from the Northwest Territories in 1898 and was named the Yukon Territory. By the 1870s and 1880s gold miners began to arrive. This drove a population increase that justified the establishment of a police force, just in time for the start of the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897. The increased population coming with the gold rush led to the separation of the Yukon district from the Northwest Territories and the formation of the separate Yukon Territory in 1898. 3. To date, the Yukon Territory is the only province of Canada to have its capitol city changed. Dawson City was the capitol until 1953 until it was moved to the larger more prosperous city of Whitehorse. Whitehorse receives snow year round, in the summer months it may be very little, just flurries, but in the end every month of the year has registered for snowfall. Whitehorse is the territorial capital and Yukon's only city. 4. The Yukon Territory today has roughly the exact same population as it did in the year 1900. (33,897 in 2015 – 31,055 in 1900). This makes the Yukon Canada’s slowest growing province by a huge margin. Whitehorse has been growing at a decent pace but the issue is the rural surrounding areas have been dwindling in numbers. 5. Mt Logan located in the south western part of the territory is Canada’s largest mountain with its peak just under 20,000 feet! 6. Dawson City was nothing more than a tent city prior to 1896. Then gold was found nearby and overnight the city exploded from 200 to 40,000 people. This is one of North Americas biggest gains in population in the shortest time. Dawson was paved with gold for 3 years, the city became super rich with imports from France and Italy in clothing stores and any food you could name shipped all the way to the northern city. The gold however dried up in 1899 and suddenly people were leaving in droves, by 1910 Dawson was down to 25,000, 1930 was under 10,000 and today the city sits under 4,000 residents. 7. The Yukon Quest is a 1,000 mile sled dog race that begins in Whitehorse and ends in Fairbanks, Alaska. The event takes place every winter in February and typically runs from 10-16 days, until the last team crosses the line.
