Giant Mine sits near Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Once it was a productive gold mine, but after the gold ran out, the mining company went bankrupt and left the government to clean up the mess: enough arsenic trioxide dust to kill everyone on Earth. The solution: freezing it, at least for now. Thanks to all the team at the Giant Mine Remediation Project! On October 29th, 2016 a piece of NWT history came down. This is the video of the demolition of Yellowknife’s Robertson Head Frame. "...The Con Mine (1938-2003) was the first gold mine developed in the Northwest Territories, just south of Yellowknife. The property was staked by Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada (Cominco) in September 1935 in response to the discovery of visible gold nearby; the name "Con" is an abbreviation of "Consolidated". The advent of winter prevented any prospecting from being conducted, but work in the summer of 1936 led to the discovery of numerous gold veins. The Con Mine entered production in 1938 and ceased operations in 2003. It has produced over 5,000,000 ozt (160,000 kg) of gold from 12,195,585 tons of ore processed. The mine was over 6,000 ft (1,800 m) deep...." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Con_Mine Robertson Headframe – Yellowknife, Northwest Territories – TOWERING SYMBOL OF CITY’S GOLD MINING HERITAGE THREATENED On February 9, 2015 city administrators recommended that the city stop negotiations to take over the headframe on the grounds that it could not legally accept Newman Mining's offer to transfer ownership, and that it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to assess any liabilities. https://www.nationaltrustcanada.ca/issues-campaigns/top-ten-endangered/explore-past-listings/territories/robertson-headframe So long, Robertson headframe: Yellowknife landmark comes down Saturday - Public can watch demolition from Robertson Drive between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/robertson-headframe-demolition-1.3827303

From the worlds largest gold mine found on the top of a mountain to the largest diamond mine in the world here are the most massive mines in the world! Subscribe to American EYE! 5.. Asbestos Mine, Canada Also known as the Jeffrey Mine, it’s located in Asbestos, Quebec and it was in operation until 2012. It’s a whopping 2 kilometers wide and 370 meters deep! Check out this thing on google maps and you can tell how completely massive this thing is! It’s the by far the largest asbestos mine in the world. For a long period of time, people would use this mineral to put into their walls and keep their homes from catching on fire! But recently there’s been a link with asbestos and a disease called mesothelioma, which is a lung condition. This is a toxic substance that people should avoid, so obviously this large mine went out of business. The lake at the bottom might look like an inviting blue, but you can bet your bottom dollar, it’s highly toxic! The small town that grew with the thriving asbestos industry feels like they’ve kind of lost their identity once the mine was forced to close, but people do still live there. 4. Mcarthur River Uranium Mine In case you were wondering which mine produces the most uranium in the world, that would be of course the Mcarthur River uranium mine in Saskatchewan Canada. This huge deposit was found in 1988 and finally a mining operation took place in 1997, when it began producing what’s known as Yellowcake. It’s not the kind of yellow cake you’d eat with your grandparents. This stuff has a horrific odor and basically what it is, is concentrated uranium powder which can then be used for powering nuclear reactors. We imagine this powdery substance is quite difficult to get ahold of. There aren’t a ton of photos of this place but, it does produce about 13 percent of the global uranium production across the globe. 3. Diavik Diamond Mine In case you thought it was Africa who had all the massive diamond mines, think again! The Diavik Diamond mine, found in the the northwest territories of Canada is one of the largest producers of diamonds in the Northern hemisphere and this place is pretty crazy! They annually produce 7 million carats of diamonds each year and you better believe it’s not easy to get here. The Diavik mine is found north of the arctic circle and it’s definitely cold! This photo here shows the subarctic landscapes that surround the diamond mine. You thought getting to work in the morning was tough for you? Imagine trying to get to work here! Just recently in 2015, this diamond produced what was known as the Diavik Foxfire 187.7 which is one of the largest rough gem quality diamonds ever produced. 2. Siberian Diamond Mine Also known as the Mirny Mine, The USSR began searching for ways to make to make themselves a more economical stable and independent union. In 1955 the Soviets discovered large diamond deposits at this site in the far away lands of Siberia and many people got to work very quickly in order to help bring wealth to the union. After about 20 years of operations, they finally decided that At one point this mine produced 10 million carats of diamonds a year and reaches a max depth of 524 meters or around 1700 feet making it the 2nd largest excavated hole in the world. The mine is so deep, airspace is closed over the hole due to helicopter crashes caused from the downward flow of air. The construction of this in the frigid conditions of Siberia must have been grueling and downright cruel. Sources state that the machinery used at this mine had to be covered at night or it would freeze Are the diamonds worth freezing to death?! It’s unoperational today but Some claim that there’s still a bunch of diamonds in this mine and the whole thing could be worth about 12 Billion dollars. It’s possible that controlling this diamond is mine is crucial to controlling the price of diamonds across the world. Bingham Copper Mine The bingham copper mine located near Salt Lake City Utah is home to the biggest pit in the world and it’s been in operation since 1903. It’s about 2.5 miles wide and if it were a stadium, it would be able to fit an estimated 9.5 million people. It keeps getting bigger and bigger too! Diligent workers can move about 250,000 tons of rock each day and it’s even become a tourist attraction in recent years before a massive landslide took place. Some claim that this was the biggest non volcanic landslide to take place in North American modern history. This photo we see here shows you the aftermath of this massive landslide and Bingham Copper mine and it makes you wonder how safe some of the conditions at these mines truly are. The landslides were so massive, that they actually triggered a few small earthquakes! Experts estimated that 165 tons of earth slide down from the top of the mine all the way to the bottom.

Stuart Rogers, President and Director of TerraX Minerals Inc. (TSXV: TXR) in an interview with Denis Clement of InvestorIntel discuss plans for a golden future in Yellowknife, Canada. Stuart highlights their access to the adjacent city of Yellowknife, where infrastructure reduces operating costs and adding the coveted ability to work through winter. Denis Clement: We’re here today to meet with Mr. Stuart Rogers. I saw yesterday you had a press release with your company, adding new members to the team. Tell us a bit about that. Stuart Rogers: Yes, that’s what we did. We’re advancing the project in Yellowknife. We’ve added two first-class guys to the project that have had experience developing a world-class asset with another company they were involved in, Cayden Resources, which was acquired by Agnico Eagle in 2014. They were attracted to this project as investors. That’s how we got to know them. We found that they have a lot of insight and contacts and people that can help us advance this project. We’re excited to have them join the board and work with us. They’re very enthusiastic. Denis Clement: That’s great. Can you tell us a bit about your primary project, the Yellowknife City Gold Project? Stuart Rogers: Yes. The Yellowknife City Gold Project is something that we’ve put together over the last four years. It started off to be a small block of claims and what we’ve done is taken this area that was undeveloped on strike with two high-grade gold mines, two of the highest grade gold mines that produced in Canada, the Con and Giant. We acquired and assembled a package, basically a world-class gold district. We now have 418 square kilometers. We have all the prospective ground immediately north and south of the city and the two high-grade gold mines that are in the area. Denis Clement: And they’re in production, the Con and the Giant? Stuart Rogers: Well, they were past producers. They operated for over 60 years. They produced over 14 million ounces of gold, an average grade of 16 grams a ton. Denis Clement: That is good grade. Stuart Rogers: That’s high-grade gold… Disclaimer: TerraX Minerals Inc. is an advertorial member of InvestorIntel Corp.

From GIANT mines; to a strange, forgotten hidden paradise; these are 10 BIGGEST Holes on Earth ! HEY YOU ! There are more awesome videos being made every week, like and subscribe to World Unearthed so you don't miss a beat ! 10.Umpherston Sinkhole 9..Kimberly Hole Located in South Africa; the Kimberly Hole is believed to be the largest hole excavated by hand. No dozers; no giant machinery; just sheer manpower. What was the incentive to dig a hole this big ? To NO ONE’s surprise; it was the discovery of diamonds. Between 1871 and 1914 miners extracted over 5,900 lbs (2,700 kg) of diamonds. Or wait; should we say it in carats? Well it's 13,500,000 Carats. This hole is pretty big, boasting a nice 1500 ft (463m) wide size. It was dug to a depth of 240 meters (790 feet) but then refilled with debris reducing its depth to about 215 meters (705 feet). 8.Kola Superdeep borehole 7.Mirny Diamond Mine This is a former open pit diamond mine located in the Siberian region of eastern Russia. It is 1700ft 525 meters deep and has a diameter of 3,900 ft 1200 meters making it the 4th largest excavated hole in the world. Diamonds were first discovered on June 13, 1955 by soviet geologists during the large Amakinsky expedition in Yakut. They found traces of Kimberlite volcanic rock that is usually associated with diamonds. The development of the mine happened in extremely harsh climate conditions. During winter months, the temperatures were so low that the ground would freeze making it hard to mine. How bad did it get? There were reports that steel and car tires would just SHATTER and the oil needed top operate machinery would freeze overnight. Somehow, even in those conditions, there were people willing to excavate diamonds, and the company actually made a profit. 6.Crveno jezero 5.Bingham Canyon mine This hole is commonly known as Kennecott Copper Mine among the locals and was designated a national historic landmark in 1966. It is an open pit mining located at Salt Lake County in Utah. It is the largest man-made open pit excavation project in the world and it is estimated to have produced more copper than any other mine in history,or about 19 million tons. If it were a stadium, it could seat 9 million people. Even though it is a copper mine, it has yielded a wide range of byproducts like gold, silver, molybdenum and large amounts of platinum and palladium. It has been nicknamed the rich hole on earth because it extracts approximately 450,000 tons of rock daily. And earns US$ 1.8 billion dollars per year. 4.Great Blue Hole Belize 3.Diavik Mine This diamond mine was constructed in 2001 and commenced production in January 2003. It is located in the Northwest Territories in Canada about 300 kilometers from Yellowknife. It is an important part of the regional economy employing 1000 workers and producing 1,400 kilograms of diamonds annually. The mine has three Kimberlite pipes currently being exploited. Unfortunately, the mine is expected to run out of diamonds in 2024, even after developing a fourth pipe expected to begin production in 2018. The mine sits above a mantle- a downward protruding thickened portion of the lithosphere- where relatively low heat-flow and reducing conditions have remained suitable for diamond formation and preservation for an extended period of geologic time. Another mysterious feature of this mine is the high proportion of coated crystals; the gem-quality diamonds that have been overgrown with younger cloudy rims. Recently, a study showed that the rims represent a much more recent growth phase of diamond in the deep mantle keel. At the site, summers are short and cool while winters are long and extremely cold and this area is considered an arctic semi desert. Daylight ranges from about four hours a day in the winter to as many as 20 hours per day during summer. In other words; perfect conditions. 2.Hoyo De Cimarron 1.Heavenly Pit, Xiaozhai Tiankeng The sinkhole was discovered in 1994, it is located in Fengjie County of Chongqing Municipality, Southwest China. It has a diameter of 2000ft(626m) long, and with a depth of 2100ft(662m), this sinkhole is the largest one in the world ! Due to collapses of the walls surrounding this beauty; the rainy season is a sight to behold. Many waterfalls form around it. Heavenly pit formed some 10,000 years ago when a powerful underground river, which still flows underneath the sinkhole, formed the Triassic limestone Difeng cave that collapsed and in turn formed the sinkhole. The bottom of the sinkhole is the only location where the underground river shows. 1285 species of plants can be studied here; also animals like the clouded leopard have been found in the sinkhole. So make sure you bring your clouded leopard pepper spray. 0. The “Ooops” Sinkhole | Florida

Project 81 has a 70,000 hectares block of mineral rights that are underexplored, with only some exploration completed by Canico and McIntyre Porcupine Mines in the 60’s and early 70’s. Noble has partnered with ORIX Geoscience Inc. to explore the property using map surveying technology, such as Heliborne EM/MAG survey and Gravity Gradiometer survey. Using this technology, Vance anticipates Noble will discover a similar signature to the next Kidd Creek mine. Vance then goes on to explain how Noble’s joint venture projects will benefit shareholders. Jeff Wareham: There has been a lot of news from your company recently...what should investors be focused on? Vance White: What we are doing and what we put together is an opportunity to follow up on an exploration program that would be looking for the next Kidd Creek Mine. Kidd Creek Mine came into production in the mid-sixties, was discovered in the early sixties, has produced something on the order of about 150 million tons of ore, has employed something on the order of about 20,000 persons over the course of its 50-year history. Jeff Wareham: You have just been out in the market financing. Investors are probably paying attention to the stock. What sort of news flow should investors be watching for over the next few months… to access the compete interview, click here Disclaimer: Noble Mineral Exploration Inc. is an advertorial member of InvestorIntel Corp.

Special Achievement Award From time to time, the PDAC presents a Special Achievement Award that recognizes exceptional contributions to the mineral industry. This year, the association has chosen to honour the Mine Training Society (MTS) for providing Aboriginal people in northern Canada with the opportunity to develop usable job skills for the mining industry and for developing a pool of skilled workers for the industry. MTS is a non-profit organization comprising Aboriginal, industry, and government partners. Its objectives are to: i) screen, select, train, and place northerners in all areas of mining; and ii) in cooperation with the NWT's education system and communities, build a legacy of education and awareness about the employee and skill requirements of the mining industry. MTS works with mining companies and industry service providers to bring training and jobs together, funding up to 50% of eligible costs for training programs. Priority for funding is given to training proposals that are skills based and lead directly to employment. The MTS is a pioneer in this area and serves as a model for the other training societies across the North. Since 2004, the MTS and its partners have trained 854 individuals out of a total 1,095 applications, and 600 people have been employed in the mine and mine services sector. Courses offered include: general trades training; environmental monitoring; first aid first responder; driller helper; underground mining (heavy equipment operator, etc.); and mineral process operation.

Subscribe to our newsletter at http://www.goldmoney.com/goldresearch. Dominic Frisby talks to Dave Skarica of the website http://addictedtoprofits.net. Europe, commodities, and gold are some of the topics of discussion. Dave is bullish on gold bullion and gold mining companies, and thinks that they may finally be ready to breakout to the upside, fired on by gains in bullion resulting from renewed Federal Reserve money printing. Skarica is also cautiously optimistic about Europe, and sees signs that eurozone economies are at last starting to stabilise. He sees this as bullish for gold, silver, commodities and many equities -- another reason why mining companies will do well. He sees light at the end of the tunnel for Greece, and is bullish on certain Greek companies that are trading at knockdown prices (and with reasonably dividends). However, he doesn't see any new big secular bull market in stocks until the developed world has convincingly dealt with its debt problem. Dave is currently interested in gold, and gold mining companies, and select stocks from "PIIGS" nations (Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain). As far as equities are concerned, he is most bearish on the S&P 500, given its ascent over the last year and the fact that America's debt problems are even bigger than Europe's. He expects gold to have hit the $2,000/oz mark by next spring, and thinks it could test the $2,300-2,400 range over the course of 2013. This podcast was recoded on 26 September 2012.

In northern Scandinavia, locals are taking on mining giants in a bid to save an ancient environment and way of life. Europe's far north is a place of spectacular beauty, of mountains and forests, lakes and rivers, illuminated in winter by the ethereal glow of the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. It is also home to an astonishing array of plants and animals which have survived largely thanks to the indigenous people of the area - the Sami. To this day many Sami follow herds of free-roaming reindeer, maintaining a tradition that has helped preserve their ancient environment into the 21st century. But in recent years a new species has arrived: the multinational mining company. Keen to exploit the region's extraordinarily rich mineral deposits, the industry is being welcomed by Scandinavian governments who want to share in the bounty of jobs and income they promise to bring. But the Sami feel that their way of life and the remarkable natural world they inhabit are being put under threat. So they have been fighting back. Filmmaker Glenn Ellis investigates.
