How to be an exotic car broker

Ed (@edbolian) has made a lot of exotic car deals. He hates the ways brokers insert themselves into deals without adding value but today he offers pointers on how supercar deals should be done. Greedy, classless, chicken shit , back stabbing, ungrateful bastard with his bitch wife, I despise people that won’t keep their word, a classic weasel, with apologies to weasels

Holy Crap. Ed knows too much about the business he laid this out perfectly. He was fair with the seller and his mechanic.

"My wife won't let me." Oh I'm sorry, did she buy that lamborghini? Is she orchestrating this deal? Hell, it was probably just an excuse.

Yep Dad was right the car business blows...
Joe Rhino (2 months ago)
So based off Ed's 8% commission of $20,800 (then cut in half with the mechanic) it looks like the car was sold for $260,000. As of 4/6/19 there is a very similar Countach selling for $350,000 OBO https://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/listing/1989/lamborghini/countach/2001166 so it seems like the buyer might make some decent money on the deal still.

Wait so I might be reading this wrong but 25k if you sold the car for 250? Seems like a pretty high commission to me
Overcast Friday (3 months ago)
Every wife brings it up, usually just before bed: "are you in any pending transactions having progressive commission schedules? if so, I'm not okay with that. flat schedules only please." My wife asked me the same question just an hour ago. No I'm kidding, he's a douche bag.
PhoenixTruckin 🔧 (3 months ago)
All I have to say is if he really pulled that my wife won’t let me crap he either is a ball less scumbag or just a scum bag I general he should of gladly paid Ed for even deciding to touch this transaction and for him to cheat him for that shows the true colors of this guy. Ed I truly respect the fact you did it for your mechanic friend and is the only reason you kept the deal going I hope you told the scumbag that. Me myself I’m petty I would’ve let the deal happen then ruined his name! Much respect to you sir🙏🏼

Will u help me buy a Gallardo. Don't say no because you help Jav with Murci.
deuteriumjones (3 months ago)
You just need to blow up the deal. Call the mechanic and apologize, tell him his friend is a snake. Call the buyer tell him there are some newly discovered mechanical issues and the deal isn’t going to work out in his favor and he should walk. Call the seller and say “fuck you.”

any business transaction where you are pairing buyers to sellers, you can do an NCNDA agreement for both sides. That way, NO MATTER WHAT, they can never do that transaction with each other without you legally because you can prove you are the one that presented the deal from that seller to that particular buyer. In that NCNDA, you can implement any friends, family, associates, partners, affiliates etc.. cannot purchase that asset either as well because in order to get around it someone can easily have their brother, cousin, business partner purchase the asset instead. I do this for all of my off market Real Estate transactions.
BRETT MICHAEL CALL (5 months ago)
The seller is a piece of shit, and you know he’s reading this. Any man who blames his wife to save face is a bitch himself. Karma will pay this tool a visit one day. It was great thing you did for your friend the mechanic. You seem to have great character, too bad we can’t say that for the seller, or his wife.

Chris Broussard (5 months ago)
Need more sophisticated escrow process, where some form of escrow agent acts as middle man, receiving at least proceeds which are disbursed to you and seller as per agreement. Escrow agent could be lawyer using trust account, could probably be some form of purely automated concept through bank, etc. Problem is letting seller get hands on proceeds, once they're in that position, they're never coming out.
MAN MAN (5 months ago)
He should have said no deal, waited a few days and maybe the seller agrees.

It's funny to me(although it makes sense) that people who have money are just cheap a$$holes. I understand that is why they have money, but they are buying a car that nobody needs and they do something like that just to save a couple thousand dollars. It is absolutely classless and I'm sure infuriating. I'm happy to hear that Ed had the mechanic in mind and did it for him, but I'm sure it was extremely difficult to keep his cool.
BudgetBuilds (5 months ago)
Why didn’t you just call the buyer/dealership and tell them the guy is happy with $170k and don’t pay a penny over, connect them and pull yourself out of it. That asshole would’ve learnt a lesson 🤷‍♂️
Ricky Bobby (5 months ago)
Sounds very stressful. I hate people who don't keep their word when it's time to put your money where your mouth is.
Roger Hupp (6 months ago)
Wow! If I was the person purchasing the car, I would have told the seller, “I’m sorry, but if you aren’t going to be a stand up guy and stay true to your word, I am no longer interested in the car.” Talk about lack of integrity on the sellers part.

My first job out of college was at a Mercedes Dealership in Seattle in the early to mid 90's. I was hired because I have a knack for ignoring money, and fame. I did meet a lot of people like you, however, and my impression is that you are a real douche. I learned there was three kinds of customer. Old money, New money, ( Like an NBA player or Football), and the kind of guy who makes pyramid-scheme videos. There is no need to deal with anyone but the old money, and the new. You are the unwanted.

Has anyone who watches this channel ever driven anything nicer than a M, Amg or a Porsche? I haven't. Edit: I got to drive an 80s Ferrari too, but it wasn't a special model worth maybe 30-40 grand

My step dads got a 69 boss 429 all original and he buys a brand new S500 mercedes every 4 years. But nothing really exotic
Kevin Hibbard (7 months ago)
So the impression I get it from all these videos. all supercars break, all the time, no matter what. So you better have a lots of cash.
bsheehan (7 months ago)
Wow, that's a crazy story, pretty low of the seller to renegotiate after the deal had been struck. Obviously buy low sell high is the mantra of business be it the stock market or cars, new and or used. I have a complex question and maybe some here can give some guidance, how do you determine which car to buy? I'd like to buy a Porsche. I look at old Porsches and I can see them going for 100k or more and I look at relatively new ones (a few years old) going for about the same. How do you evaluate the depreciation hit on a new car vs a used car not know exactly how it was driven in the entry exotic market (aka normal not limited or track series Porsches)? This from a guy who has only owned complete beaters or modest new vehicles.
Dr Doolittle (7 months ago)
This is the worst part about sales...it's one of the few jobs where people think it's 100% ok to screw someone over. "Oh...they just made a phone call" Well you own a phone jackass...why didn't you make it?
daxadam (8 months ago)
Hiding behind the wife, what a gutless move... Ed should've called the buyer and have him drop the offer 10k, no point having the buyer overpay if he ain't getting the entitled commission.
Taekwondo Time (8 months ago)
Trying to sell anything is the most frustrating experience anyone will ever experience in their life. 1% of buyers show up as advertised and pay the agreed upon amount 99% of buyers either don't show up, don't have the money, or try to continually renegotiate and talk you down on price
Ben Schneider (8 months ago)
You were upset with $10k for setting up a transaction?
kingkckc (8 months ago)
over all seems to be a decent guy, but hiding sales details is shady. transparency in market is needed for people to make informed decisions, hiding them so someone can make profit later is just shady business not a fan of that BS and why "invest" vehicles is a nonsensical thing. its just a bunch of rich guys scamming each other
kingkckc (8 months ago)
not advocating he needed to state the details in the video but just the fact he mentioned it was for profitability purposes later is why i bring it up

I SINCERELY wish Ed was my friend in REAL LIFE. I wish I could drop by the house and have these good, articulate conversations about cars. God, my friends suck....Ed, are you taking applications for new friends? Sign me up
John (8 months ago)
Why ANYONE would take a 5 mph bumper Countach outside in daylight is a complete mystery to me. It`s not just an eyesore, they make the car look retarded. The one that came to school in the short bus. And thats not how a Countach should have to live. Like the village idiot with a gross deformity
ddavid122 (8 months ago)
I hate those fucking people. Not just in the exotic car industry but in every business transaction, when they go back on their word trying to screw you out of the money you earned once the job has been completed. It can really make your blood boil.

It’s too bad that the engine didn’t blow up catastrophically after the cheapskate bought it.

Remember, the cheapskate who renegotiated was the seller not the buyer.

Well, it would have been simple to just get a title on the agreed amount right before disclosing buyer and seller to each other.
Craig Schwegler (8 months ago)
In the end, it looks like Ed got him though. He was pissed enough to say ‘it was me!’ in the comments on this video. Very few people would have known who it was. He outed himself.
Bruce Lee (8 months ago)
This is a very rare type of man you come by these days, a stand up guy trying to make a legit deal and not screw anyone out of money. Makes sense why he wanted to get out of being a car salesman and left the business. I respect his honesty and can only hope this is the kind of fair deal we all get. 👍
Steven Sieja (8 months ago)
So you sold the lambo for 260k and split the 8% $20,800 commission with your mechanic. Should have been $31,200 split to $15,600. Lambo owner... SMH, but probably good confirmation to move on from being a broker.
Andrew Boccasino (8 months ago)
I’ve been in the market for a Lamborghini Countach for about a year now. I’m looking for a 1989 25th anniversary. It has to be white though. It has to be in exceptional condition, and it has to have less then 10,000 miles on it. It’s been extremely hard finding one with all the specifications I am looking. I’m waiting for the right car, and the right deal to present itself. If anyone owns one, and is interested in selling it or happens to know someone who owns one that is interested in selling it please let me know it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

when your making calls here and there setting up buyers and sellers doing paperwork for 8 to 10% on 200K plus deals but still complain of not being paid enough thats when you know your a greedy lowballer I mean seriously making over 20K on one car even if it takes a few weeks or month to make it work is better then most people make in 1 year of actual hard work. I understand that getting things to work needs to be paid but really?? even if you guys lost 2500 to 3500$ each on the deal you still came out with a really good deal. Sorry I love the stories but this I dont agree with when I see people working their asses off ALL year to make ends meat and watching RICH people complaining about not getting RICHER over OTHER peoples cars for what is basically calling people and doing paperwork. I know that the hate comments I'll be getting will be from rich people not caring how they make their money but I see this stuff all the time around me and it makes people that do this stuff look like spoiled children complain about not being rich enough.

I just sold a gmc syclone...the first guy that "bought it" agreed on a price at my shop and told me to drive it to his house the next morning and he would have the cash waiting...so a 2 hour ride later the next morning i pull into a driveway to see the buyer and a friend with a creeper and other inspection items they look it over for an hour and the guy comes at me with a price 20 percent less than what we agreed on and said his wife wouldnt let him spend anymore...and i wrote in my ad that i didnt want to deal with anyone that is gonna use the my wife excuse....needless tosay the syclone went sideways over his lawn 4 tires spinning

“Classless decision of trying to renegotiate terms” Ed, that is the classiest way possible to describe such an act. I applaud you
Stevethe11th (8 months ago)
In the boat brokerage world there is so much legal paperwork so things like this don’t happen. Industry standard commission is 10% and most people are fine with that. Then some think they can do better on Craigslist and we have to convince them why they won’t do better or in very rare cases drop the commission to 8-9%. But this is always fixed before the boats are ever even listed.
Neucore (8 months ago)
This entire video should have been one second long with him sarcastically saying "Don't!".

I'd finish the deal and then after I got my money I'd tell the guy to lose my number. If he has another car to sell, fuck him, he can try Craigslist.

Greed is the biggest problem of humans. I'm not surprised the seller would try and shaft you on the commission. When the whiff of money starts to circulate and you add a woman's poison, this is what you get.
